Thanks 😂😂😂😂. I laughed so hard that my tears had tears. Larry and I were born the same month of the same year. He's 19 days older than me. Feel like 👍. 😎❤️🤍💙😊
When Michael Jordan, the man most commonly referred to as the GOAT, says Bird has no weaknesses and tips His hat to Bird. People should take note. Bird was simply Awesome!
Can we all stop a second and appreciate the fact that Jerry Sichting has a hell of a chin? The man took a direct hit, bear knuckle, right cross from an athlete with an 8' wingspan, at full extension!! That's! 80's OG hard!!👀👀
I went to Michigan State when Magic was there. A pistons fan who hated Bird. I don’t follow the sport anymore but oh the memories. I didn’t appreciate Bird then, thank to videos like this, I certainly do now. He was a bad ass! Just great. I was so wrong.
It’s funny in the chat sports channel last night during the lakers nuggets game and peeps were talkin about the Legend and how friggan great he was ,Larry the Legend ,best small forward ever ,talking the talk and backing it up with his game ,magic was right ,there will never ever be another Larry Bird,I absolutely love watching his highlights
Unquestionably he had the smarts , when he said what he meant to do he delivered, when you go into the garden and start practicing 1or2hours before the game that tells you alot, he earned his keep every penny,th
@@MrPocketfullOfSteel number two Jordan , the only MJ was better at was ACROBATICS. In terms of basketball IQ, passing, shooting, trash talking, 3 point shooting, clutch------Bird was far better.
@@DrStan-cu1dv I think I'd agree with MJ at #2. I just feel so fortunate to have watched Larry from the moment he came onto the scene at ISU throughout his career with the Celtics. I'd watch and it *almost* seemed like "it wasn't fair." I suppose even as an 18 year old, I didn't (I don't *think* ) quite understand why it was that no one was even close to him. *haha* Well DUH - it was because I was watching *THE BEST* player in all of hoops. *lol* I love watching old tape of Larry Legend, it always makes me smile and smirk and chuckle.....hahaa!!
The Goat. By far the best of the best on winning and making his teammates better than they thought that they could be. Very rare breed that's for sure.
Kids these days only see greatness through a small window, a few plays, maybe a game or 2. Sometimes it got old knowing what greats like Larry, Jordan, Ali, and Tyson were going to do because game after game night after night knockout after punishing knockout, you almost didn’t have to watch you just knew the outcome.
I am a black man 46 years Old.....I wanted to be like Larry Bird.....He is my G.O.A.T......Im one of them extreme die hard you can't say sh.....t.... fight about it throw chairs argue loud .... just love Larry Bird
100% on target. I lived in New England at the time and felt an emotional attachment to the Celtics … Bird was the heart of that team. I will never forget the incredible games and dominance of one team. The GOAT without question.
Yes Bird was not just athletic but also his IQ was off the charts he made guys look silly trying to guard him ! Telling them the play then in your face execution! Larry legend G.O.A.T no question
I didn’t know Bird almost had a quadruple double in 3 quarters. To think I couldn’t have respected his greatness any more. Now I am not even going to give a reason when somebody doesn’t have Bird in their top 5 - I’m just going to tell them they’re wrong.
Its all about anti-whiteism, more popular today than ever before, 0bama started it and now Biden is even worse if you can believe that, I guess he doesn't own amirror.
Folks that *WERE FORTUNATE* enough to be alive and old enough to *TRULY* know hoops etc. We *ALL* know that there was *LARRY* and then the others. Sure - makes for a 'discussion'.....but gee wiz fellas.....we can discuss the "best pizza or cheeseburger." Thankfully.....because of technology etc. we have some quality *PROOF* to show the ones that were blinded by either envy or Larry taking out their fav team etc. - or the ones who were too young or simply not around. Just think about it fellas. If you were *LUCKY AND FORTUNATE* enough to have been of a certain age etc. and witnessed those Boston Celtics teams.....it's something that just doesn't leave your mind.....and *no one* is going to change your mind. Because *YOU KNOW*....heck - even the *PLAYERS* are telling *ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN* who was the *BEST* to have ever played Bouncy Ball!!!! ha!
@@sol1120 Michael Jordan feasted on a weak and totally watered down 1990s NBA. Put those Bulls’ teams in the 80s and they’re lucky to even escape the Eastern Conference finals. If they do, it’s during the late 80s after Bird, McHale, Parrish, Moses, and Dr. J are on their last legs.
@@broaddusmarines I agree in regards to all their finals opponents but the 90’s team certainly would’ve been more competitive against the great Celtics team. They weren’t ready and that’s the way it goes. The big disappointment is that sob that murdered mj’s dad, prompted him to leave therefore missing out on most likely two matchups in a row against Olajuwon. The knicks were basically their toughest opponent. Olajuwon ate Ewing ( and Robinson) for lunch
29, 12, 11 and he's like its not great numbers.... Saw him many times and there is no question he's the goat. 11 championships with a deciding game 21 and 0 record in school pro and Olympic play is hard to ignore. Another Celtics goat Bill Russell
I remember watching the 1986 Finals as a 12 year old and I hated the Celtics because they beat the Rockets ass that year. Today I’ve got nothing but respect for those Celtic teams and I’m a huge fan of Larry Bird. The Celtics played team ball and knew how to win.
God bless you you guys had a good team also but they were just more balanced,I didn't like Sampsons punch but I am glad he did the Lakers in with the shot heard round the world, thanks for respecting my man ,he was a man possessed in that game
@@johndudack6537 “The shot heard around the world.” I haven’t heard anyone else refer to Ralph Sampson’s playoff game winner with that phrase since it happened. I still use that phrase when talking about today. Thanks for the response.
I was also 12 during the 1986 Finals and also a Rockets fan. It was a heartbreaking series, for sure. That said, I always preferred seeing the Celtics win to seeing the Lakers win.
Thanks for the great video. It brings back so many great memories- back before Jordan turned basketball into hero ball. Watching the NBA now, I only wish younger players would emulate Bird and Magic. Passing Is the most beautiful part of the game. They made the game so much fun to watch.
Hero ball until they got a game plan. Jordan ran off of picks just like any other shooting guard. Shot clock running down of course it went to Jordan. E cause he was the hero. Rarely did he have the ball until end of shot clock. Too many highlights is all most see. Growing up a laker fan in la I was lucky enough to get the Chicago feed on cable. For those who only see highlights, you just don’t know how good 23 was. I was all about magic in denial about MJ. After a few years watching all bulls games, there was no denying 23s skill and determination. I hated Bird but he was amazing in his own way. The Celtics and lakers had way better teams at that time though. Laker back up center Mychal Thompson and Celtics backup centers Walton and Joe Klein were better than Dave Corzine and Brad Sellers. All Bulls had was Oakley, a rebounder defender. Young Pippen was raw and shot horribly his first few years. So yes, MJ had to be a hero
Fantastic piece my friend. I remember this like it was just last year. Man - - - I feel so fortunate to have been in mid teens and early twenties to have witnessed this man. I was old enough to know what it was I was witnessing. *Good stuff* Well done!!!
@@Greg-gi4lz Weird. I had thought about this conversation the other day. This (I guess) got buried down at the bottom of my notifications. What I had thought that was cool and I had never shared with you....is that my name too is *GREGG.* But with 2 G's on the end. ha! Weird stuff. *lol* Living here and only here in my 56 years (Cincinnati.) The only NBA history we had was the Cincinnati Royals and I was just a tike. ha! Fav NBA team. Sadly (of today) I don't really follow the NBA. I see things here and there of course. I guess the last team that I actually "liked" was Denver when Kenyon Martin played there. I was (at one time ) a UCAT at the University of Cincinnati back during the Bob Huggins era. Kenyon always held such a dear place in our hearts when he played here. There in *no doubt* IMO if Kenyon hadn't broke his leg in the conf. tourney that the Bearcats would've have been the National Champions. I don't believe that I had ever actually felt physically sick like I did....the moment that went down. So there it is, for me....NBA wise. But my all time "personal" fav team .......and it's not even close.....we those Bird/McHale/Parrish etc. teams. They were just fantastic and I knew (even then) and I was correct.....that what I was witnessing....and what I was feeling....I'd never feel that way about another NBA team. Shoottttt - that's why *both of us* are here at this fantastic channel. *lol* From "one Gregg to *another* Greg" (long distance) THERE IT IS. *BOOM* :o)
Damn my days working the Garden in the early 80's, but not 1986, it was awesome to watch and loved the late great DJ with Larry - such a smooth combination! They were like butter.
The Boston Garden was designed by a boxing promoter, with very steep stadium seats that put the fans closer to the action than practically any other NBA venue (except the similarly designed Chicago Arena). So, there was a significant home court advantage.
larry bird is always my first pick for my all-world team. but bill walton is gracious with his praise to a fault. he played the single most perfect game i've ever witnessed (i was keeping stats, ucla vs. msu, 1973). as far as i know he also had the longest wining streak of anyone in basketball history (148). i think it was technically even more than that, but hell man, who's even close?
Holy shit. Larry Bird was so good, he could win a jump ball against The Dream! That’s insane. That’s like making Zeke throw the series away on that steal and pass to DJ. It’s impossible unless you use the Force. Bird is a Jedi. That actually explains everything.
It’s probably been said all throughout the comments, but this is first-rate professional documentary filmmaking. The structure of the storytelling, the pace and tone of your narration, and the judicious, sparing use of it in deference to the well-edited clips and interviews: it all comes together flawlessly. A masterclass - just like a Larry Bird game. Hitting subscribe.
I met Larry in the hallway of a hospital that I worked in as a physician the day after he hit his face on the floor during a game .He was very bruised and commented that it was nothing. I said the paper commented that you had double vision and yet you still scored almost 30 points. How did you do that? He answered, I saw two baskets and shot in between!! Only Larry
I remember that game. It broke my heart. Larry looked like Rodman on the defensive side. He was like a free radical and just ruined the game for my beloved Rockets.
What Larry says Larry does and delivered sorry about your team that year and I commend you for at least not badmouthing the goat, you guys had a super team that year, and at least they got one title
Was, and always will be a Sonics fan RIP. Hated when we lost to the Rockets, but more so to the Celtics. Larry Bird shows anybody that does not have great flashy physical ability, can still be great if they are smart..... Bird was really really smart!
same here, saw my first game ever against the Celtics on 86, and I was stoked for them to win until I saw how good Bird was up close. I went into immediate despair watching Bird dominate just the first 5 minutes alone.
Great video man, thank you. I had watched the whole '84 finals, a legendary one, but the '86 finals seems even better. I MUST watch it, and will try to find it over YT shortly.
I was a big bb fan back then, and the Celtics/Lakers/Pistons/Knicks rivalies are the reason why. I didnt know that this would be the absolute PEAK of excitement for the NBA. Im happy to have been there watching....I cant watch now. No way. It is BORING now.... Ty for this great video....yes I was a Celtic fan,but the Lakers were always right there!
If you were a Lakers Fan or any other team other than the Celtics you hated Larry Bird, BUT watching Larry Legend now has been more entertaining than watching the NBA games in 2023
I was young at the time but I remember hating Larry Byrd. Now it make since. I was a Rockets fan. Hakeem was my guy. Still love Hakeem and Earl Campbell.
BECAUSE HE IS COWARD HE KNEW 1994 WILL BE FINAL AND HE LOST TO SHAQ HE WAS SCORED 36 AVERAGE PLAYBOFF 1996 MANY PEOPLE MAKE EXCUSE FOR JORDAN DREAM WAS ROOKIE 1986 JUST 21 OLD IF LARRY CAME 1994 HE COULD LOSE LOT BETTER 1992 LOT MORE SKILLED
I was flying out of IAH the next day. I accidently had on a green shirt but I was a Houston fan. I saw bird in the end of a concourse. I asked if I may take his pic . He said yes and showed me the peace sign as I clicked the pic. He never knew I was a Houston fan .
I actually talked to Ralph Sampson about the game winning shot against the Lakers. He sat in front of me every Sunday at church. Nice guy, but his elbows always hit me in the knees during church, and he always apologized.
I am a Houstonian. Many of our fans wanted the Rockets to draft Clyde Drexler instead of Rodney McCray. If Clyde was there this series could have been closer... but I don't think anyone was going to beat the Celtics in this season.
If Larry Bird is supposed to be so unathletic how come you see hi'm leading all these fast breaks against all these super athletes. If hes so unathletic where are all the chase down steals and blocks??
I don’t think they were super athletes back then like now but they def said that for a reason like the “sneaky athletic” shit 😭 I don’t think white announcers can cope with another white man being more capable in athletics so they kinda throw shade
@@norap71 today has super atheletes?? If today's athletes are so super as you say why are they always injured? Why can't they get through a full season like those guys back in the day? And as far as athleticism goes "way more athletic now"?? huh? 6'8" Dominique Wilkins in the 80s had a 44 inch vertical leap, 6'6" Jordan had a forty eight inch vertical. 6'10 Shawn Kemp had 41 inch vert, and 6'7" Clyde the Glide Drexler had 43 inch leap! That's the problem today's athletes aren't natural athletes. They're propped up by technology, nutrition, protein powder, human growth hormone.. et cetera et cetera. OG NBA were all just incredible, natural athletes.
They should just make fighting legal in all sports in the same way it is in hockey. It lets you get over frustrations and move on with the game real quickly. As someone who started playing hockey at 4 and continued at a high level until I had gotten too many concussions to continue, I can tell you that people *don’t get hurt from fights*, they get *hurt by dirty plays*. If players don’t get their frustration out then they’re going to do something dirty in game, thats realistically worse than just hitting the guy in the face. All of my concussions came on dirty plays. Not one, didnt have a penalty called when it occurred. The worst thing that happened when fighting was that my face kinda hurt for a few days and people asked why i had bruises
