The instant Shudderwock popped up, I immediately thought of Disguised Toast's old vids, where's he'd get over 1000 armour and force the opponent to sit through 5 minutes of animations in the process. He genuinely broke Hearthstone, for longer than any other card I can think of, and if the meta was still as value based as it used to be I'm certain he'd be on top of Wild once again.

The stream was insanity, rarran you’ll get a ton of complaints but you were a bit back and forth on the “current state” of the card as the grading so it isn’t entirely chat’s fault.

I think Genn and Baku were more impactful than no-charge patches; I remember the patches meta where I fairly easily climbed the ladder with double anti-pirate crabs and a weird ass silence priest that was just built to make warrior pirate sit down and lose. Meanwhile, Genn and Baku were so much stronger because you'd queue up with your odd or even deck and you didn't know what you would face, just that there would definitely be a pop up of one of them for both players. Also, even paladin was the most busted decks of all times when it came out. The sheer variety of nonsense baku and genn created + early rotation give them an edge over patches imo.

Shouldnt you do one king for each class + neutral?? Seems kinda redundant to compare neutral cards to class cards lol completely different scenarios whether they have to adapt to a few decks or a few hundred decks while they're in rotation

Patches is one of the cards that are super easy to underestimate due to (relatively) low impact on the gamestate, but in the long run of playing a deck with it, will crank your win rate up. That's also why its only real direct competition is Renethal, Genn, and Baku. Consistency is ultimately king for competitive TCGs, and a card that will without a doubt give you a small mana advantage 100% of games is just insane. You could have picked any of the four, and I'd probably agree.

Patches, Baku and Shudder are the trifector of HS bullshit. All three of them made me quit the game for a while. I think patches is a close but good call for the winner if only for the fact that I don't want to hear his voiceline ever again, thinking of "I'm in charge now!" invokes pure hatred to this day.

Man, people who weren't there to witness patches really need to watch the Reynad rant. This mfer of a card made it, that there wasn't a single non pirate Tier 1 deck. Every class, every archetype was outclassed by patches and even if you wanted to play another archetype for the fun of it you had to run a pirate package to counter the opponents early board. You knew what your opponents were gonna play, 99% of games were a variation of a pirate deck but you just did not have the tools to build a counter deck. Games ended on turn 4-6 on average, all enabled by one single 1-1 card. Even unnerved he wouldn't be as insane in today's hearthstone since we got more tools to deal with aggro, but man, there is no card that had as much impact on the game as he had.

It genuinely feels like he had the end result in mind and was just working towards it during the entire vid. Like, I understand silently skipping garbage cards, but when he explicitly just clicked through to the next card he had in mind, it kinda undermined the entire concept of King of the Hill - the point is that in one-to-one comparisons an absolute favourite may lose to an otherwise mediocre thing. I guess I just don't understand the point of this format - it did have a couple of interesting discussions in the beginning, but the second half could've been easily replaced with a vid "Why Patches is the strongest card in the Hearthstone history". The comparisons he made in that half were, like, on a conceptual level, i. e. with a presupposition "(almost) nothing can possibly be better than patches" instead of by individual merits of cards

Great video! You should do a tournament bracket style next time. It would fix the problem with one card being on top the entire time and you could have more interesting discussion for card vs card. Edit: maybe make it a viewer voted tournament of what they think the best card is and you would be a 'live caster' as each head to head gets voted on.

Renathal's power was never mentioned by Rarran. It fundamentally impacts the CORE STRUCTURE OF HEARTHSTONE, which is DECK BUILDING. I think until you get to Yogg, Renathal full clears everyone else

I think there is a legitimate claim to Astalor being better than patches. Patches was in every deck at the time, and is still run in aggro decks in wild. Astalor is run in every deck type, in every deck, is played in wild, AND is a win condition on it's own that generates card advantage and value. I'm not trying to undersell patches, I also played when it came out, but Astalor is also just an insane card.

Patches is just a mini-yogg. Appearance wise. They are one and the same, but at different times - GOATs.

Not only was Loatheb good in the Standard it was a part of, it's still an absolute powerhouse in Wild, which is insane given the card is NINE years old.

In my opiniom Baku and Genn are tied first. Blizzard nerfed Yogg, they nerfed Patches and they nerfed Renethal, but they straight up REMOVED Baku and Genn from standard, back in the day blizzard's way to balance wild was to do nothing at all, all their focus was on standard, so moving a card to wild was the equivalent of them removing it from the game. Their mechanics were so fundamentally brokenthat they HAD to remove it, if they were not rotated early, they would have been meta defining up until the next rotation. I think that a pair of card that forced the devs to send them to the non-suported mode, deserved to be top 1.

This was only ever between the 4 cards that give you something for free at the start of every game without even having to draw them: Baku, Genn, Patches, and Prince Renathal.

Man idk, I think you really undervalued Dr. Boom. I can't really think of any other card that reached such a level of ubiquity where it became like a representative or mascot of the game itself in the community's mind. What other legendary was so popular and widely played that it got its own expansion themed around it after its initial release?

Really cool, only fault is that you compared Patches with Charge while it doesn't have charge, while other cards you evaluated as they are currently and not at their peak, but oh well, it's your list anyway. For me personally it's a toss up between Caverns Bellow, Baku, Demon Seed, Gruf and Yogg

I still think that warrior's Dr boom hero card is the most impactful that was ever printed and I'm very surprised you didn't talk about it. Like, ever since it released, when I queued standard I would always face mech warrior and it was solely because Dr boom was fucking insanely broken, and if you didn't play it you wouldn't win. Pretty frustrating to be honest (nothing beats playing against priest, but still a lot of pain)

TCB over keleseth is wild imo. keleseth rogue was better at its peak than quest rogue was, and at the time meta decks were finding any excuse to slot keleseth in. also TCB being ranked above tarim because tarim was easily the best card in the set
