My mother taught me how to make a meringue that doesn't weep or shrink. To keep it from weeping, make sure the filling is hot so the meringue will cook on the underneath. To keep it from shrinking, make sure the meringue touches the pie crust all around. I make my meringue with cream of tartar, sugar, and egg whites.

God bless you for admitting to out-of-round pie crusts! The bane of my existence, honestly. I tell people I'd rather my food be tasty than pretty. But I do try to not scare folks at the table. Love you!

Lemon Meringue Pie is a family legacy for us. Mom told us that's how she met my father, she brought his mother one of her pies (in the 1940's) with some fresh eggs...and the rest is history. Whenever she was invited to someone's home they always asked her to bring her Lemon Meringue Pie. Mom taught me how to make her pie and it never fails and never anything from a box. By the way my crust is never round when I roll them out, who cares you fit it in the pie plate and trim/flute it anyway. Good job Ms. Brown!

I love all citrus, but lemon meringue is magical! I also make the pie with real lemon zest and juice. I was so lucky as a child, we had lemon meringue pie in our little junior school. Each table sat 8 children, with 2 designated as servers. We worked together and as lemon meringue pie was not popular with all, I had plenty of extra portions! School dinners ( throughout junior and secondary) were my favourite by a mile, I loved my school dinners - all the 'Misses' knew that. I would love to go back to have the same, but modern day dinners here are nothing like the ones we enjoyed - we were very lucky indeed. I hope that all the dinner ladies realise what a contribution they make to our lives, I will never forget the wonderful food and the friendly 'misses' who served us. Thank you to all dinner ladies!

I even hate to say this but when my dad volunteered my mom to make pies because people ask them to. (Mom was a registered nurse and raised kids and had a full-time job) she hated for him to volunteer pies but that was his favorite. But when she was a little angry and just slapped it together she made the best pies in the world if she thought about it no way! That's why those guys liked her pies but it was always a minor explosion at home when she had to make pies and it was usually do not eat anything because I didn't make any extra! I thought this was always a funny story
