@@breannafrank4946 no its light and two pieces of plexiglass sandwiched together. thats why its 70 bucks. great piece of kit, i love it tbh. if you want premium go for m series but they dont have this layout.
The R16 is honestly a super pretty controller and I love that they're implementing the little rim on this style of controller. Hoping more leverless manufacturers start doing something similar. If you haven't already I HIGHLY recommend checking out the Punk Workshop controllers, namely the type-b layout. Probably my favorite leverless to date. Had to pick up a second one JUST because I wanted to have both the minibox and the ultrabox.
went to evo today as a spectator and got that itch to finally get a leverless controller, got the T13 and its arriving tomorrow. cant wait to use it, also the gameplay montage editing ruled
dude im so jealous! hope you're having a blast, T13 looks solid and im sure you'll pick it up easy. i'll probs be doing a leverless guide in the future so look forward to that!
PLEASE BEWARE I’ve had 3 Haute 42 T16s, these controllers are very very badly made regarding their ports. They very easily get loose and have to order a new one. I’d rethink getting haute 42
Really good review. This controller is sold by multiple different companies so I don't know which one is best. I'm just speculating but I think they're bought from the same warehouse and rebranded by each company, even the little screen is the same.
Yeah if you buy it on Amazon I think they factor in fees and whatnot for having a shop there but the official one is one Aliexpress, they don’t take too long to ship either
A good insight into the product! How reliable is the connection to a PS5? I know you said around 50% but is it really that hit or miss. Any alternatives that are more reliable on a PS5 for a similar price
May I ask what firmware you’re on and if there were any settings in particular you did? I’m pretty sure I had it setup correctly. Sometimes I would play for hours and it’d be great, others it would time out mid sesh. Please lmk!
this controller sounds pretty nice I do have a question though would this be compatiable with the hitbox combo extensions? just in case I ever wanted more buttons in the future
YEEESSSSS FINALLY! I was so anxious for this video About the Magic Boots dongle, does the dongle angles or tilts when used on a desk? I wonder cause they just launched the Cosmox PS5 dongle, which is very compact Edit 2: BRÖTHER, that Morrigan wallpaper
I gotchu! The dongle is very compact and doesn’t angle or tilt at all! I did see the Booter 5 they just released as well, it might be worth picking up if they made it specifically for Haute42 controllers. AND LOL IM GLAD YOU NOTICED, it’s actually Soda from Nikke 😭
I appreciate you bro thanks for the positivity. I’m relatively new in the controller review community but I’ve been making content for a long time. Thanks for being here!
The edit at the end is just god tier. Got a new sub and got me to upgrade my t16 to the r16. It’s more ergonomic for my long fingers and for the sliding method on my level 1-3s in sf6
Awesome review broo tysm Does anyone know, if there is a consistent update for the ps5 of this controller or something that supports that? I would really love to try out my 1st leverless but I can't if the technical dc issue happens even after doing the instructions 💀
Sorry for the late response, so since the last update I haven’t been experiencing that many DCs I’d say it’s happened a few times since I uploaded the video. The BOOTER 5 adapter would be your best bet as it’s specifically made for Haute42 controllers. Also there’s the Brook Wingman which @LeGeeked. Mentioned earlier. Hope that helps!
the layout is close to perfection. If only the made the 2nd up button as the button just above right button and be assigned as left then we can have best of both sides of p1 and p2. we should have 2 pairs of back and forward buttons. especially for tekken who plays electric wind godfists is almost impossible on P2 side but with a 2nd set of directions, it can be possible. Please Haute42 make this change! we don't need an extra up button just for the sake of WASD but instead put that W button just above right direction button so we could map it to left direciton.
This is a fantastic review and the production value is absolutely insane! This definitely helped me decide on grabbing the R16 after previously falling in love with leverless with the G16 and wanting a bigger controller for lap play. Amazing work!
Thank you so much I’m glad you found it helpful. Just got a G16 myself and I’m loving it, the R16 is defs the way to go for lap play. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do man
I have one and can say the button caps measurements that come with the Stock ones are too tight they aren't smooth and due the the loose quality control on the button caps some of them will feel like they get snag at the sides sometimes, i changed mine to 20.2 and 25.3 button caps and can confirm that they the feel way smoother. Also as a bonus the caps are lower then the stock ones which is a bonus for me.
I think you’ll notice a little bit of a difference when it comes to the switches compared to Sanwas but the 16 is pretty much the closest to real arcade buttons I would say on leverless
@@boyneeto I appreciate the response man, after seeing your video on customizing it I think I’m just gonna pull the trigger I appreciate the content bro
Great review man it made me buy this controller. I can also confirm that if you have a wingman fgc it doesn't time out at all. I plug the cable to the wingman and than the wingman into ps5.
I received an R16 today and immediately concluded it's not for me. I find when sliding my finger easily catches on the side of the buttons since they sit so high over the rims. That is a deal breaker for me. It's like an arcade stick that can't do QCF without extra concentration and care by the player. Also, the resistance of the buttons, although not bad, is noticeably more than my S16 and Paradise MPress v2. I thought I might love the R16. It is definitely beautiful and has lots of nice attributes so I feel bad that it's not for me. I might actually try a T13 to complement my S16 instead.
11/10 Review Brother! Cons and Pros easy to understand. Doesn't feel robotic or generic, straight Vibes all the way through. After you next video, can you make one thats like a tutorial to learning how to play on that style? I've always wanted to try to understand it. ALSO, how does it handle in menus?
I appreciate you man thanks for always being a real one ✌️ I’ve also been scripting a full leverless guide if that’s what you’re looking for! Menus might be confusing for some as the up button is below the down button but I’ve been playing on hitbox for so long it’s second nature now
I see a lot of good reviews on these controllers but the amount of extra buttons makes me feel like I’ll fuck up and press them instead of the intended one
It’s actually not difficult at all, but takes adjustment if you’re use to standard hitbox layout. You kinda have to train your brain to make use of the extra buttons
Great review Neeto! It looks like a great controller but the connectivity issues revolving around the PS5 immediately make it a no go for me. Stuck between picking up a Kitsune or Overdrive.
I got mine in April. It is comfortable to use but after three months of regular use the usb out port has been giving me issues. It feels looser than before and will only work now with my newer usb c cables that connect nice and firmly to it This is apparently not an uncommon problem after I did some digging online for help. So be aware if you're thinking about getting one.
T16 has bigger buttons and no rims, also different switches (just reds) my friend owns a T16 and I couldn’t get over how big the buttons were it was kinda weird - I’ll make a community post rn
I'm using the T16 with magic boots and I dont have problems with the time out. Also i'm in the lastest version (v0.7.9) The settings that i use to make it work are: Current Input Mode: PS5 Authentication Settings: Host USB And finally at the top right select "arcade stick"
Hmm, I received an R16 yesterday and specifically found sliding quite poor on it. Basically the buttons sit high above the rims, so I found my finger catching the side of the button, which makes sliding pretty bad, especially compared to my Haute42 S16 and MPress V2. It's a beautiful controller, but I will be returning mine because I know I won't use it due to the sliding issue and also the very slightly higher button resistance. This is just my experience, so YMMV.
Legit! I have a video on my channel for my modern controls for leverless, hasn’t changed but added what I mentioned in this video. Thanks for watching!
not weird at all! im not a mk player so i can't really speak from experience but the pink button is remappable so you can p much do whatever you want with it. it might be different if you're used to using your right hand to block, the lower button beside the up button might be better
Man. I had just started my own box right before Haute began releasing these controllers. I started following TheTrain and how the GP2040-CE project was coming along. These controllers are freaking awesome, and make Leverless so much cheaper than other options on the market.
double check your settings for sure you gotta make sure to disable PS4 Mode and enable the PS Passthrough. otherwise it should be plug in play if you're connecting direct to your ps5
I bought the Haute G16 when Tekken dropped and loved that learning experience. And then I got the Haute B16 when Multiversus dropped an loved leverless even more. If that left pinky button could magically appear on my devices, I'd be madly in love.
I couldn’t agree more, it makes so much sense both in design and ergonomics. My left pinky still does the sipping tea lift but I’m finding myself use it more now
Anyone know how to invert the y-axis for ps5? I ended buying the controller after this review, it’s sick but I feel like the inversion might feel more natural. Thanks
Never thought about doing this but I’d assume it’d be easy to do in the web configuration via pin remapping, go to the haute42 discord and there’s outta be a guide there for ya
I have 2 of them used with a mayflash magic boot. Latest update on both with the good settings (arcade stick) the 1rst one wotked well on PS5 for some weeks. But now on both I have random disconnections. It can work perfectly well during hours but I still have random disconections sooner or later. No clear rule or reason why it works or not... I don't undertand why... 😭 Really a shame because the quality of the controller is realky good.
Thank you so much for sharing! Looking into a workaround and lots of people are just saying it’s the adapter itself, might have to look into getting a Booter 5
I just got a T16 i wish i jad seen this before ordering. I would have probably gone with this over the T16 because i like the button layout more and i wanna feel those buttons with the rims.
M16 has 25mm buttons, R16 has 20mm buttons (plus one 25mm) so it depends if you want something that feels closer to arcade buttons. I prefer the R16 customization, look and feel but if you want something more neutral, solid and durable, the metal build might be more for you.
my guy u need to make a tutorial on how u move so clean on both p1 and p2 side. im literally slwing down ur vid trying to recreate ur hands cause i never thought about kbding that way before and no one has shown it on youtube that way.
I could probably do a quick tutorial sometime, tbh KBD was the first thing I learned playing T7 😂 I’d like practice it every day until it was smooth. just get used to flicking your fingers and then add the opposite direction for the SOCD. You’re not pressing the buttons btw you’re like flicking the edge
The R16 is gonna be my first leverless, finally wanna step up my game with fighters. It arrives tomorrow and I’m excited for it, thanks for the review!
@@boyneeto Thanks so much, got it and I am loving it so far!! Also checked out your customization video which was great! Already ordered myself some art for it, haha.
Not that this will help at tournaments but I was having the same issue on Ps5 with it just stopped working. I tried many things like updating and what not. Finally spoke with haute discord and found out plugging my adapter directly into the ps5 then the leverless into that solved the issue completely.
Nope doesn’t make the controller wireless, just makes it so it’s able to play on PS5. Normally there’s an 8 minute timeout but the adapter acts as a bypass
ive gotten used to kbd's on the T16 without rims but the rims look very intriguing would you say it would make a difference? i pretty much slide over the buttons
T16 buttons are all 30mm so it’ll be a different experience as your fingers are more spaced out. R16 is 24mm and the rim hits your fingertips before the panel, it’s hard to describe but it makes a lot of difference imo
@@boyneeto hmm let me ask like this then how different is the "kbd-cheesing" with SOCD compared to the T16 if you do own both? sorry if this is super specific but thats my only question. edit: I think you are doing it at 6:34 - I hope its as easy as it is on the T16 as i've gotten super accustomed to it.
@@synqFPSI don’t own a T16 but I had the chance to try out my friends on Tekken. Personally, since I’m used to 24mm buttons it was lowkey awkward to use (and kbd) just because of the spacing. Wasn’t aware it was called KBD CHEESING 😂 I’ve just always done it like that tbh
@@boyneeto theres no real term for it lmao, thanks for your helpful insight tho i very much appreciate it. Sounds like the rims dont make a difference then.
@@boyneeto This really surprises. I'm finding sliding quite bad on the R16 I received. The buttons sit high above the rims and I find my finger catches the side of the buttons. I also own an S16 and an MPress V2, and I find sliding so much better on them because of the low set buttons. Don't think I will use the R16 because of this, so will probably return it, sadly. It is very beautiful, though. If Haute42 would make a version with low set buttons that feel like the ones on my S16 I would definitely buy it. I know there is the T16 and T16-C, but I prefer the smaller diameter buttons on the S16 and R16.
I’ve been eyeing this company since they emerged but wanted to see how they will be received over time and to no surprise it went well! Every product they have puts my 200$ Micro to shame while being more then half cheaper and also having better form factor and build this is actually insane. The junk food crew were smart to over price their stuff when there was no alternatives but now? I ordered an R16 yesterday, Hope I’ll like it! Always preferred arcade style and feel, With the Rims hopefully it will be the case :D
the hitbox / leverless scene has seriously evolved in the past couple years there's so much innovation nowadays. hope you enjoy the R16 as much as I do, you'll be surprised how close the rims feel to actual arcade buttons
@@boyneeto Thank you man, Much appriciated and great video! Do you happen to have any recommendations of a place to order a foam pad for it? Preferably one I can even choose to etch and choose the color of the foam since I will be making art for it. And maybe a case or even a sleeve, i'm just wondering since I didn't see them offer any of those on their shop so im assuming I need to find a work around like I did with my Micro.
@@mahkeemdehmah10boo87if you’re asking about bottom foam for it to slip less, search up “Non-Abrasive Grip Tape” I’ve seen a transparent version as well by LifeGrip that looks p good (might cop) as for a sleeve or case it’s the same dimensions as a 11-12 inch laptop so you can p much see which ones suit you the most. I would just make sure it’s well padded. Hope that helps!
@@mahkeemdehmah10boo87if you’re asking about a foam pad to put in between the acrylic I don’t have any recommendations or experience quite yet, I’d assume you’d need to get longer make screws for the mating fasteners if you did so. Lmk if that’s what you meant if not totally ignore this comment haha
How do you like an extra button for left pinkie? Do you use those extra buttons at all? Do buttons rings add something? Or is it just another "nice to have" feature? I'm choosing between R16, S16 and P12.
@@such-ej I really think the pinky button will be standard soon for future controls, it’s very useful. The rings make it feel more like arcade buttons instead of regular flatbox buttons, I really like them but it’s personal preference. Pick what you think would suit you!
Pretty standard but I’m weird and play inverted (2,1,4,3) I map 1+2 and 3+4 on R1 and R2, 1+4 on L1 and 2+3 on L2. Like the video I’m still using L3 as taunt and R3 as ki charge
@@boyneeto I think so, if you can rebind the buttons for the game? In D4 it has W, A, S,D for movement, so if this leverless controller let you rebind the buttons than i think it's possible.
Do you own one? I heard there’s lag when using it normally - hoping Brook competes and makes a smaller adapter for these external ports bc the big ones really hang out of the controller
@@boyneeto nicee, okay so now im between getting the r16 and the b16, the keyboard layout looks fye to me but the r16 is bigger so idk. i have small hands and this would be my first controller i play on pad
@@1edixo so I actually have some B16 experience from a tournament I recently went to, its interesting. the L3 and R3 locations are kinda weird but if you prefer a more compact controller I'd go for it (double check the prices tho whichever suits you the most) ill make a community post today and see if anyone else has opinions. R16 is a solid choice imo
i can't speak from actual experience but it depends if you're on a budget and want the additional buttons and rims feel. the kitsune also works on PS5 and PC out of the box so if price isnt an option and you don't want to think about other features it might be the one for you. hope that helps!
