March 2nd 2017 - I travelled down from Auckland to Wellington, Met up with Chris and Coxy and we headed to Picton
The 207-kilometre journey from Blenheim to Hanmer
Springs follows the Awatere River, then crosses Wards Pass
to follow the Acheron to its confluence with the Clarence
River. the Awatere Valley road is pretty basic but with incredible country and views.
The 112-kilometre road from Hanmer to St Arnaud (via
Tophouse Rd and Wairau Hanmer Springs Hydro Rd) is tough, especially only a few months after the earthquake. but even better countryside. DO IT!
In between we travelled a few trails around PIcton and road from Hanmer Springs to Kiakoura and back. beautiful trip on the backroads.

Doing this 2021 on my Royal Enfield Himalayan. Can't wait. Did you do much damage when you had your spill?

Hey awesome you should have fun :) That was actually my 2nd fall. the 1st one was really impressive i kind of rode on top of the bike while it was sliding along sidewise lol. No damage at all really, a few scratches. the bike has bash bars all over it, i kind of need that. its pretty heavy for a ride like that so soon after the earthquakes. There was a lot of loose shale and rock around.. good luck and have fun and remember to stop an look around a lot.its beeeaauuuutiful country
