The Ulanzi J 12 does exactly the same as the DJI.... half the size, 2 mics and only $45 AUS Love it. Use gain at -1 or 0. To change gain on the osmo 3 you have to connect the receiver to the camera first. Also the mics have 3 level of noise cancellation that work.

I'm a Moto Vlogger from Scotland and used the Insta 360 camera mounted to my handlebar on the partially extended selfie stick at such \ an angle. This gives me forwards, backwards and all around views as well as capturing the pillion. I used the Rode wireless Go 2 system with the receiver attached to the camera via a Ulanzi mount. Myself and pillion each have a lav mic in our helmets attached to the transmitters in our pockets. This worked well untill one day I was caught in rain, I removed the receiver and put it in my pocket. Unfortunately my mesh jacket isn't waterproof and the receiver got wet. I've replaced it with the DJI system but noticed a drop in audio level, my pillion was clipping and mine barely audible. I've adjusted gains to try again. I was hoping to hear how it worked for you, I don't mind boosting levels a bit in post but feel I really shouldn't have to be doing much more. People want to hear the sound of the bike, they're prepared to put up with a bit of wind noise ( not clipping) most are bikers themselves.

I reduced it to -12dB, and it sounded fine just standing there talking, but as soon as the bike started rolling and the ambient audio level went up from the motor and wind noise, and my mic started clipping and distorting. I was motovlogging all day yesterday and none of the footage was usable... I was using a new Purple Panda, and it is simply too sensitive even with the gain turned as low as it will go...
@aqeeqansari
@aqeeqansari Год назад
yeah that -12db doesnt do anything. As soon as the motorcycle starts and the exhaust comes on, the audio clipping makes the vocal unbearable to listen to. It's a total waste of money getting this over a GoPRo if you're into motovlogging. I'm not gonna spend 300$ on a camera and then another 300$ to get a mic.

@SquireSCA

@@aqeeqansari The problem is that I have had multiple GoPros and anything newer than the 8 is crap. Random lockups and overheating, even when on a bike doing 100mph... They wouldn't replace mine under warranty either, even though I paid for the extra service contract. They said overheating was normal and that if I don't want it to overheat, I have to shoot at 30fps. Because there was that "30fps workaround", they refused to replace a brand new GoPro Hero 10 Black that overheated every time I used it. I took it out back and made a video of my fixing it, by shooting it with a rifle. I will never own another GoPro product. They are a terrible company and their founder is a joke. Gave himself the highest CEO salary of any company in the US, and he ran the company into the ground. F them. I hate to have to spend another $329, but if I get a setup that actually works, it is what it is... makes no sense to use a GoPro that has great audio, but shuts down every few minutes...

Hello! Right now I'm using two Sony FDR X3000 that I'm very happy with. Purple Panda mic in the helmet, and a Boya wireless mics for city/destination vlogging. Thinking of switching to the Action 3 to be able to film in native 4K60fps but for that I need to also up the storage capacity. Maybe next year I'll go on that route. PS: I would like a Panasonic S5 IIx ;) PS2: with the DJI mic there's a way to bouth have external power and mic at the same time in the Action 3.

Hi. Thanks so much for this video. I purchased a Go Pro 11 in Dec 2022 for moto vlogging as was using my S21 with mic and wanted to upgrade. Straight from the box I had issues with freezing and shutting down. I went through loads of stuff with customer servi e and finally they exchanged February this year. Straight out the box had issues which were the same. Again went through manual updates, go pro blaming the battery and SD card so I bought extra batteries and SD cards and still didn't work. Again they changed it in May and again straight from the box it's faulty. I've had enough and I said to GO Pro I want a refund or I've already spoken to my credit card company and they will do it and take it up with you. I had looked at the Osmo 3 but it was the audio that seems an issue. It's an extra £300 in the UK for the 2 mics and receiver but if it works I'm happy. Plus when I'm doing my how to video and walking around the bike the audio will stay with me. I forget what they are called but alot of people buy those separate audio recorders and sync in post. Thanks again for the detailed explanation. Is this waterproof though, ie the reciever?? Again thanks Tim.

I have an Osmo Action 3 and every microphone I have distorts badly just like you experienced. I even used the same microphone I used for my old gopro hero 9 (which worked flawlessly), but when I plugged it into the osmo it was still garbage audio. I'm guessing the gopro mic adapter had some kind of hardware that would limit the amount of power the microphone was feeding and making it sound better where as the osmo 3 does not. I even set the dB down to -12 in the UI of the Osmo 3 and it was still awful with all microphones. It was distorted audio, but just quieter. It set me back weeks, but I think this wireless solution is what I need! I am curious though, is that receiver that you plug into the type c port sturdy?? I do motocross and go over some pretty big stuff, so I don't know if that to be flying off. For the road I imagine it's fine, but not sure how well it will hold up with mx Thank you for all the information!! Very detailed video. You earned a new subscriber!!

I'll say the DJI videos do seem sharper. I think all GoPros have a slight softness to their focus that makes it look maybe aliased or blotchy. I don't like the overly contrasted look of the DJI though, at least out of the box. I haven't played with one to know if that can be adjusted, or if you can film a flat or log profile. Audio is by far the hardest. I've never had any luck with any of the lav mics, they all pick up too much other noise. I ended up using a small wired mic from a Sena headset. It is low input so I don't clip with it. The only thing is I had to use a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adaptor. I am very happy with the results. I run some audio processing tools with my editor and I think I get above average audio now. It took a lot of work to get there though.

Hey man, ny DJI wireless mic came today. So let me ask... What settings do you use when riding on the bike? I need to make sure that people can hear my voice and the motor, but not have it distorted and blown out... I see I can set 3 gain levels... The camera can go to -12dB, as well as the receiver and Mic gains can go down to -12dB What are you using to get the desired quality in your videos? When I was using the wired mics at -12dB, they sounded ok, until I started actually riding, and then the ambient noise from the motor, road and wind, just blow out the audio. It wasn't the wind hitting the mic, it was that the average noise level was just too much and the mic would blow it out, it would start clipping and sound horrible. Suggestions?

I'm currently running my Gopro 9 on two different helmets, on one helmet I plugged a Super Squid mic into the media mod, I get a little wind noise but it's much better than the Purple Panda mic I used to use. One my other helmet I use a Rode wireless that I plug into the gaming mic that HTW uses, it sounds ok but I'm not 100% satisfied with it; I wonder if her voice is quieter and doesn't overpower it. Thank you for this video, I'm going to rewatch it and take notes. I would love to get a better camera but I fear buying a camera that's no better than the 9, so currently I'm waiting to see if the market catches up with motovlog needs. I probably should use an external recorder and start experimenting with small action cameras that drone racers use. I'm still amazed at what the Million Dollar Bogans set up and how much I enjoy the wind noise and bad audio but it works for him. I had hoped the Gopro 11 mini would accept audio...actually I'd hoped Gopro would build another small session that shot in 4K and had external audio capabilities if only for the ability to put the camera in my pocket when I leave my helmet on the bike.
@TheSteveFreeman
@TheSteveFreeman Год назад
Sounds like a great setup you have going there! I agree with the session,I don't know why they haven't announced a smaller form hi-bitrate version yet. All of these cameras should come stock with external mic jacks, I'm tired of needing adapters to get good audio
@theoldmanflynchmotovlog4846
@Steve Freeman I'm curious if Gopro even knows who their customer base is and what they are thinking with the design of the needing the media mod for external mic needs. I believe they believe they're going to break into the personal vlogger market but that market is best covered by cell phones and cheap Sony's.

If not, I have two new USB-C lavalier mics coming today, and maybe one of them will work. If I can't get any of that to work decently, I will have to just bite the bullet and get the DJI Mic. Gonna order that 3 battery pack and charging case either way, today...

@@SquireSCA honestly, the DJI mic just works amazingly. I’m posting a video later today I did using the GoPro Hero 11 with the DJI Mic and the audio is stellar!

I have the DJI osmo action. It has kicked my ass while trying to get good audio while using the osmo on my helmet. Are you concerned about the receiver coming loose from the camera?

So get this, I got on Amazon and bought these small 3M adhesive industrial strength magnets, stuck one in the inside of my helmet and the transmitter sticks right to it! It works GREAT, highly recommend! I’ll do a video and show you how I did it!
