These are great! I didn't know there was even such an award like this. Reading about nature is one of my favorite kinds of books to read. I'm currently reading the book "Leave Only Footprints" and the author took a year to go to every national park in the US. He writes about his experience and it is part memoir too which I found to be very interesting.

I'd suggest Listening to Whales by Alexandra Morton... Got me into nature writing. It really changed my life.

Thanks for talking about this prize I didn't know existed. All the books sound very interesting but I'm especially interested in the nature conservation/environmental crises category. I'll definitely be picking up one of the books on insects. I adore insects and it's heartbreaking to witness their decline.

I absolutely loved Entangled Life and The Moth Snowstorm. The latter also talked about the insect crisis and I want to read up on the two on the same topic you mentioned! Thank you for introducing me to this prize, I’ve never heard of it living in the US

I have a copy of The Instant already as I really enjoyed the author’s first book. Shadowlands, Wild Fell, and Our Biggest Experiment were all already on my radar before I saw your video and I definitely want to get to them. But there are others on this list that are new to me that I want to look into. Thanks!

I bought Otherlands ages ago so now I must read it! Wild Fell sounds fascinating too. I loved last years winner Entangled Life and both books by James Reebanks were great.

I didn't know about this prize either. TY for sharing that information and synopses of the books. The childrens books award is a great addition. I don't have children either but a non scary look at our natural world is needed. Eating to Extinction is of particular interest. I went vegan 10 years ago after reading about the impact of animal agriculture so I am always interested in reading books of this type.

I’m not vegan but have definitely cut back on the amount of meat I eat and it’s happened more naturally than being a conscious decision.

I've been recently reading Devotion by Hannah Kent. It's a novel of course so it wouldn't qualify for the prize but I would say that nature is the third protagonist of the novel.

they should have a category for best nature writing in fiction. I read Prodigal Summer not too long ago from Barbara Kingsolver. it's been around for a while, but I really loved it.

That’s a really good idea. I love Kingsolver’s writing for that though I don’t think I’ve read Prodigal Summer yet. I love her other three recent novels and excitingly she has a new book coming out in a few months. I think Benjamin Myers is also exceptional writing about the natural world in his fiction.
