Yes! So glad you covered this prize- I love the look of this shortlist! The ones I’ve read have almost all been 5-star reads for me, and the three I’ve not read yet (Appliance, Cwen and There are more things) are all ones I’m so keen to read! Also, I’m mostly just delighted that Waidner continues to get love!

@@EricKarlAnderson maybe I need to rebrand my TBR as the ‘TBR Prize’, and then I’d actually read them 😂 But yeah, I sometimes wonder what people who have prizes named after them would think if they could see them now. I think Orwell got the best deal.

I love the Orwell Prize and this is a great shortlist. I just finished The Colony and was stunned by the way it integrates The Troubles into the main narrative. I have read most of these and really want to read there are more things.

Great to see the George Orwell nominated list. Have read a few, however, have not read The Passage North yet but looking forward to reading it. Loved The Nickel Boys and found it haunting and often think about it -It stays with you. It will good to see the outcome of the list, if you are doing one.

I've read Small Things Like These and thought it was great. It's not an overtly political book. It just integrates an important societal issue into the plot. People should not be turned off by having a book described as political, thinking that it will be preachy or polemical.

A Passage North has been on my radar and I’ll had The High House you make it sound so interesting. I wish The Liquid Land by Raphaela Edelbach and translated by Jen Calleja made the list. It was an interesting story about environmental issues and governmental issues in a different way.

The Colony is one that I expect to read in the read future. I’ve had The High House for quite awhile now but haven’t picked it up. I hope to get to it this summer. I’ve been seeing Cwen mentioned a lot recently and from your description, it sounds like something I would really enjoy. I’ll have to look into it.

I love the Orwell prize! I have only read a passage north from the list, but really liked it. I am particularly interested on small things like these, the colony and sterling karat gold, but honestly, they all sound great

I'm currently listening to The Colony and it's a delight! One of the characters is a complete asshole but it is done so well. I've laughed out loud, been pensive and had some thoughts about the pervasive impact of colonisation and conflict. There's some factual stuff which I'm not sure about but I think it's of less benefit to people who live on the island of Ireland. Can't wait to see how it finishes.

I thought the Nickel Boys was excellent, even an instant classic. I can picture future high schoolers reading it in English class. My pick, and I haven’t even read the others.

Have read several of these including Claire Keegan (one of the best books I have ever read), Jessie Greengrass and Natasha Brown. I was so so looking forward to reading The Colony, but the one word, one line pages and pages structure just did my head in. Couldn't read it.

Sorry you didn't get on with Magee's novel. It really crept up on me so I felt really emotionally engaged by the end.
