The newest controller from 8BitDo called the Pro 2 is out this week and today I wanted to unbox it and check out the controller to see if it's a good follow up to my favorite controller.
Check out the 8BitDo Pro 2 here (Aff Link): amzn.to/2Rgz9UD

@@danbooke2001 when using gyro like in an fps with a normal controller it is not that much motion and as long as the targets are big it makes it way easier to aim at the vs a puny joystick. aperently that is because the steam motion is not as good as say ps4. fortnite is an example of small targets. stuff like the wii is greate but is it's own thing. i wish fps had an option for something like that but deffinatly not the only option. metroid prime 1 and 2 use it greate but then three gets anoying sometimes with the gestures.

I love my 8BitDo SN30 Pro+ that I've bought after your review, it still looks and feels brand new even after hundreds of hours of gameplay and my cats dropping it on the floor twice (and trying to bite it once). Btw, another differences in the Pro 2 are the buttons layout, 1) they centred the start and select buttons (they were slightly shifted to the left, a thing that triggered the OCD in a lot of people) and 2) the ABXY buttons are now a perfect diamond like modern controllers, the Pro+ looked more like the old SNES controller, the Pro 2 also lacks the concave/convex buttons that the Pro+ had, which was more suitable for retro games.

@WinterReflections
@WinterReflections 3 года назад
@@LWAllen With regard to joycons, you're right. Those obviously have problems that shouldn't happen but do, and to me they just aren't ergonomic. But I've done quite a bit of research into pro controller alternatives, and they ALL have some major problem. When I look at actual reviews on Amazon for this controller and the previous 8bitdo controller that all these RU-vidrs rave about, I quickly see a bunch of negative reviews from people reporting bug problems mechanically, software-wise, and certain features being unaccessible when using with the Switch. I watch these RU-vidrs reviews of their controllers where they have nothing but nice things to say, yet lots of Amazon reviewers seem to have genuinely had problems. Only other close alternative is the Power A enhances wireless, and there are MANY reports of very fast and severe stick drift. Maybe the official Nintendo Pro Controller's D pad is lacking, but other than that it really seems like it is the most reliable controller for the Switch. If anyone has positive comments about the 8bitdo please let me know, I really would like an alternative but it doesn't seem as cut and dry as these RU-vidrs being sent free product make it out to be.

@@LWAllen all these newer generation first party controllers suck. i've had at least half a dozen dualshock 4 controllers and every single one had analog issues in under 6 months. i've heard they're building them to break down quickly intentionally to make more money, and i don't doubt it. i never had these problems with a ps2, ps3, gamecube, xbox, xbox 360, or dreamcast controller, now suddenly just about every controller has stick drift issues within 6 months. if you look at the reviews on pretty much every modern first party and many third party controllers, at least 90% of them say the same thing, stick drift problems after a short amount of time. if this never used to be a common problem, what could have changed so drastically that it's suddenly a huge problem? if they were able to design them to prevent dust from quickly getting in there where it will cause major problems 20+ years ago, why can't they do it now? they know many of their customers are suckers now that will continually shell out money for these garbage controllers, so they have no real incentive to fix the problem. we just keep getting more and more screwed by the gaming companies, and it will only continue to get worse because we let them get away with it. i hear the ps5 controllers are already having serious problems even worse than the ps4, yet people keep buying them up, so why would they bother solving the problems?

If not, all the buttons just spaz out randomly. That will happen with any Switch controller. Put it in X-Input or Direct Input mode and it won't do that. @@logannosleep5 I just tried it, and the Pro 2 has gyro in CS: Go in Switch mode. Not working wirelessly is probably a firmware issue. There are three different profiles you can set per control mode. Switch mode has default and 3 custom profiles. Xbox and Direct input have the same. Of course, gyro will only work in Switch mode, but you have three custom profiles you can make on top of the default mode. If the controller is disconnecting and reconnecting, check the USB port you're plugged into, or that something too power hunger isn't on the same USB bus. I wasn't able to use my Arcade Stick on the same USB bus with my capture card plugged in. Unplugging the capture card, or moving it to the 2.0 port next to it and it worked fine. The only "fancy" upgrade that would be fun for me to see on future models is experimenting with modular parts. Aside from that, I like that 8bitdo has focused in the middle area price range. We already have many companies trying to push premium products upwards of $100 to $200 a pad. I'm not sure we need another premium contender. Theres still a lot of variations in midrange pricing that 8bitdo could try. Some style examples would be OG gamecube, Hori Gameboy player for GC, xbox style with offset sticks, and joycon variations. A ergonomic set of joycons that can operate wirelessly and include a good dpad would be amazing

As someone who loves the 360 and Xbox One controller AND the PS4/PS5 controllers, I must say that I love the PlayStation thumbstick layout on this controller instead of the Xbox style layout like on the official Switch Pro controller.

Yup i have their previous model and, while not terrible, I'm not a fan of the left joystick placement. I'm sure playstation fans trying to get a controller for their switch will like it, but i do wish it was it was swapped. I'll probably still get it just for the back buttons though
@markercrayon457
@markercrayon457 3 года назад
@@jerrygomez3825 just get a switch pro controller unless you REALLY need the turbo and reprogram able buttons. It’s only like 20 Canadian dollars more expensive for the better stick layout (for you), very good quality, and HD rumble (which might not be a massive selling point but it’s a nice thing to have). Also there’s the power a pro controller which has the better layout for the sticks and the back buttons as long as you’re fine sacrificing rumble
@jerrygomez3825
@jerrygomez3825 3 года назад
@@markercrayon457 haha i actually have all the variants of the switch pro controller. It's easily my favorite controller, but i do like to try the different options. I have like 7 or 8 other third party controllers and out of the third party controllers the sn30 pro+ is my favorite except for the joystick placement, but it's still a good controller. I do wish it could turn on my switch, i wish the rumble was hd, i wish it had nfc, and i wish the motion controls were more accurate, but i still like it overall. I just want to try the paddles because I'm trying to play cod...er... apex legends and I'd like to jump and crouch without having to constantly take my finger off the joystick. The motion controls help but it could still be better. Also, I've played splatoon for thousands of hours and naturally some have drift. This isn't like the joycon drift, this is the normal wear and tear from the amount of time put into them, and i would rather replace a $50 third party controller than a $70 pro controller. And in the case of some of my pro controllers i would have to pay even more since some of those variants aren't sold in stores anymore. My smash, fire emblem and splatoon controllers all drift a little and I'm looking at more than $70 at that point. If the pro controller was $40 to $50 i wouldn't even bother looking at the third party controllers unless those were under $30 and were of good quality, like the sn30 pro+

3:57 this is the only shortcoming I find - the switches are SADX not like the video says, but for switch - APPLE - Direct (older compatibility) - XBOX. Note they don't use M since that could be Microsoft or Mac. They shouldn't use A either since that could be Android or Apple (maybe lower case "i"?). But this is the best controller, apart from the stadia.

Always loved the Xbox controller for PC, Android and obviously Xbox. But I mainly just play my PC, Laptop and Switch. I found this controller because Nintendo has no controllers with analog triggers for the switch. Now I have one at my laptop and switch downstairs and one for my PC in my office, upstairs. The Series X controllers have issues with Bluetooth connections on windows. The Pro 2 never disconnects itself.

I want to know how the Swap Right Stick and Triggers work in the ultimate software? Some racing games give you analogue acceleration when using the right stick, would that option make those racing games better, essentially making the trigger analogue? Trials is the first game that comes to mind where the right stick can be used to accelerate.

I have thier psone classic bluetooth dongle i use on pc with my ps4 controllers. Complete plug and play, works flawlessly and you can switch between xbox, ps4, switch and basic xinput profiles on the fly with 2 button presses on the controller. Works perfect on every game ive tried it on. Paid 20 bucks for it and was worth every penny. Way better and easier then messing with all those different drivers you used to have to download amd configure. Only thing i wish it had was the ability to see your battery life. If you have an actual xbox controller you can with gamebar, but even with the xbox profile, you can control everything in game bar but you cant see the remaining battery life.

An Idea that just came across my mind is........ How about "Skins" for the face of the 8bitdo controllers, like video game themed skins or different colors like Carbon Fiber........ just a thought. Maybe a subtle LED/RGB lighting effect would be cool. And the guy that suggested that 8BitDo should do their own version of "JoyCons" is a Great Idea. Especial with Nintendo charging 80 Bucks (which is Absolutely Ridiculous) for Joycons that are flawed with "joy stick drift" and 80 Bucks is still a Ridiculous price for Joycons without the flawed problem/issue.

I recently ordered this and while i knew it was well reviewed and I did hear people say it was better than the regular pro controller, it had been a bit so decided to check here and see your review. My take is all it needs is a built in battery, Amiibo reading functionality and the HD rumble and I think 8-Bitdo could get away with making a $100-$120 controller for serious buyers. I love a quality controller and I've begun to avoid the cheap ones simply because I buy one and I'll end up buying several more to rotate out to increase their life span. I bought 4 Power A switch controllers to avoid buying a normal Pro controller but ended up just buying the Pro controller in the end and using the Power A controllers as secondaries for guests minus one because I lost the cables and they require a proprietary cable that is Micro-USB but they're keyed to the controllers as the connection is recessed and if you use a micro-usb that isn't keyed, it won't go in the hole.Terrible design and I will never buy a Micro-USB controller again willingly.
