I think to get an apples to apples comparison, you need to only select noise reduction rather than let it do automatic stuff like DxO and some others do. Definitely overcooked the noise reduction in LR too, never 100%! The others would have looked worse than that if they were set to 100%.
I believe I did only do noise reduction and turned off the automatic things like in DxO. Unfortunately, to set them all to one value wouldn’t be a fair comparison either. 20 on the slider in Lightroom is basically nothing, but in Topaz it is usually all you need.
You didn't even compare the only noise reduction software specifically designed for Astrophotography. Noise Xterminator could have easily won this showdown. It is not designed for landscape or daytime photos, but the title of your video specifically says for Astrophotography.
Have you any info on on1 vs topaz, on the subject of photo improvement other than noise. topaz photo ai fixes camera shake, scratches and dust, in addition to regular noise. I really like ON1, but does it do the same ? Experience and other ppl's demos, shows that it's actually random what the various software does a good job on. One photo can come out great using ON1, and another photo can be great using Luminar etc. There seems to be no all around winner here. Been looking for a year for a great catch-all.
Either way should work just as well. I personally prefer doing it after, incase anything weird happens with the noise reduction and I don’t notice and then I can go back and do it again without having to do the whole edit all over again.
