Well 2013 has certainly been no disappointment when it comes to steam, but when it comes to those thrashing clagging diesel locomotives of yesteryear, 2013 has been kind enough to deliver it's fair share of fantastic moments too. With eruptions of highly carcinogenic clouds of smoke and deafening growls and screaming turbochargers, the year has been packed with incredible amounts of entertainment, from locomotives such as the age old Class 37's, Class 47's and the unchallenged Class 55 Deltics, to the more mundane Class 56 Grids which have been deafening the UK countryside with it's unmistakable scream. Even a Class 14 'Teddy Bear' gets a mention in this video as it piles down the middle of a street in Preston with a plume of grey smoke!
Environmentalists, look away now because the next 20 or so minutes are nothing but enough turbocharged noise and smoke to warm the cockles of your heart! :D
Enjoy! :D

Really beginning to miss the `older` classes of diesel now......its either I`m getting older,or the sign of the times...either way you can`t beat a nice plume of smoke or a chunk of clag in my book.

I'm mostly familiar with the class 37s I used to see them when I was a young kid I would go and stand on the bridge where I used to live and wave to the driver as the class 37 went under the bridge the sound of the class 37 was amazing like a growling tiger so I used to call them growlers 😂😂😂

19:34. I get to here this sound at least 3 times a day. Those trains travel to and from Sellafield Plant, and the train line they use runs through my town, a street away from me is the train line. I sometimes stand by the crossing on the footpath, as they come around the corner and see the crossing is clear, they put throttle on hard to speed up.

steamlocoscrapper, so if all these polluting locos are scrapped and melted down, where do all the rail company's find other locos to replace the locos that have been scrapped, do they (a) buy expensive non polluting locos or (b) buy second hand locos, if they go with (a), they will only run a few trains, because their locos are expensive to run, they will lose money, if they go with (b), they will still lose money because their locos are unreliable, they could go with electric locos, but, the cost of electrification for several thousand miles of a route is more than the cost of say 20 locos, maybe you should think about the bigger picture before you comment.

I enjoyed your collection, but would have enjoyed it more had you not been so paranoid about plagiarising! Proffessionally done videos only have their production (as well as other) credits at END of production, NOT throughout WHOLE viedo! That 'R.M.Production' was VERY distraction through whole work!... (I noticed that many trainspotters worldwide do not know professionalism in regard to filmmaking. (I have studied film production, thus feel qualified to offer my constructive critisism here). I do not know why many trainspotters are so paranoid of copying, as it is generally only illegal (copyright infringement) when RENUMERATION takes place! That is either showing at public place and charging entry fee, or copying FOR PROFIT through resale. Thus, copying for ones own personal purposes (where renumeration is totally abscent) is NOT copyright infringement, and transfereing from one medium to another, say tape to DVD or on places like RU-vid is again NOT copyright infringement! So PLEASE RELAX! You really do not need to marr your otherwise beautiful work with this unecessary 'copyguard' throughout WHOLE video)!
@rorymacve

Although I appreciate your criticism, I have found the addition of my watermark necessary as I have had my videos stolen in the past, as well as many of my fellow enthusiasts videos. Let's just say if anyone does try to steal my video, I'd like to see them try and pass it off as their own with a watermark. It's not done out of paranoia really :)
@williamtaylor5733
@williamtaylor5733 10 лет назад
Ruairidh MacVeigh I'll back you on that one. If T.S is so easily distracted, perhaps they should be watching something else. Clag and thrash tells me that the emphasis is on sound with a bonus of great video......enough said. Love it all. Good variety compilation.
@CyrusInIndia
@CyrusInIndia 9 лет назад
Ruairidh MacVeigh am against somebody stealing someone's good hard work but i'd like to say that watermarks are very easily removable and they really don't stop people from plagiarizing...in fact the watermark can be changed as well and made into what looks like their own name or a mark and there are variety of ways and tools to do so!!

Here in America most of the new Locos do not visibly smoke because of Environmental Rules.
@nikvanleiden4225
@nikvanleiden4225 8 лет назад
There are tough environmental rules here in Europe too but they do not yet apply to older diesels and "heritage" diesels. The British have another problem. As their loading gauge is more restricted than most of Europe they cannot currently get new build locos to match the new regulations AND fit within their loading gauge. In time the technology will be refined enough.
@khadijagwen
@khadijagwen 8 лет назад
Nik van Leiden Can you explain the term "loading gauge"?
@nathanclark3139
@nathanclark3139 8 лет назад
+Khadijah Brown Loading gauge is what a locomotive will fit in. I.e. tunnels or under bridges. Width and height. Clearance. Actual definition might be a bit different.

+mikmacarthur hi the deltic is so called because of thee shape of the Napier Deltic engine which is 18 cyls as you know but arranged in a triangle rather than in a V or inline or double banked ( class47 sulzer ) the class 37 is called a tractor due to the noise of the engine but are also called slugs 37906 is a prime example and is the loudest in the uk, but imagine the noise of an unsilenced 37
