One of my favorite parts of this is how it kind of narratively makes sense to the original Nativity story in a weird way...? Like it just feels that it could be in an actual goes-right Nativity play.
Chris (and indeed Henry Shields) is my fave of the Mischief crew (I know I probably shouldn't have a favourite as they are all so talented and hilarious). I really identify with Chris constantly trying to keep everything (and his sanity) together, being done with people on the regular and resigning to his fate. As for Shields half the time his facial expressions and body language crack me up as much as the things he says, particularly if it's directed to Dennis, Robert or the audience. (And he's very handsome, too).
Yeah since they give three gifts it just sort of turned into three wise men. The only thing we know for sure is there was more than one guy who showed up. I think they also don't even show up until Jesus is like 2 years old? I don't blame Nativity plays for giving an abridged version.
I like to imagine there were a good 50 dudes that showed up BUT only 3 remembered to bring a gift, so the other 47 panicked and pulled a “Go on, let me sign the card from ALL of us, I can pay you back”
What is the song the music at the very end is based of of (after "I'll have to give you a knighthood!")? I know it's a well-known song, but have searched for a bit to no avail.
that and Robert's coup really seemed to tip him over the edge into "We're clearly cursed. Just keep breathing Chris, the doctor is worried about your blood pressure"
I went to see The Play that Goes Wrong on stage last year and the character has a full on tantrum in the middle of the show and starts shouting at the audience and it is the funniest thing I've ever seen, it might be me but there was something about it on stage that seemed even funnier than on screen. I'd thoroughly recommend.
I do like Chris Bean because even he's the director of the series and things always goes wrong during the performance but still hilarious and funny too.
