"I can't possibly get involved with a co-worker. That would be wrong. Plus, how old are you?" "Eighteen" "I could potentially get involved with a co-worker."
I hate how H. Jon Benjamin is now the "Archer/Bob's Burgers" guy, and his first major role is now never brought up. That voice will always be Mcguirk to me.
Actually he was Dr Katz's son on dr katz. But McGuirk was defenitley one of the best characters he ever did. IMO the best but i'm sure some will disagree..
We were probably all stupid kids or teens when this came out and couldn’t appreciate it fully. I did find it very relaxing to listen to to fall asleep if it came on before bed as a kid
Right I love his shows some how (with the exception of archer) even they tho they are cartoons they portray real life and his jokes are more intelectual not just blue collar fart and sex jokes some times you have to think to get the references in them or look it up
Coach was arguably H. Jon Benjamin's best work! I really wish they'd bring back Home Movies or at least put some of the characters in an episode of Burgers for the fans!
A CN show called Clarence had someone who looks suspiciously like Brendan in an epsiode in a video store ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6GdYBr5cr5M.html
+Drawtoonz Studio I have a friend on skype that 100% sounds exactly like this guy without even trying. He gets mad when people call him coach. We call him coach anyway.
"you have a 10 showing... hit or stay?' "what do you guys think? 10 showing, 10 underneath, hit or stay?" "Stay!" "HIT ME!!! 21! 21! what did i tell you idiots!?! nay sayers, all of you!"
How is H. Jon Benjamin not the most famous comedian, like, ever? Between "Home Movies" and "Archer" he's provided sooooo many goddamn laughs, it's unreal.
My current boss seriously sounds JUST like Coach McGuirk... same speech patterns and everything. Sometimes when he calls me at work, I picture the coach talking to me and it kinda cracks me up. :D
"Ill race to get outta this place Ill race against the other racers" has been stuck in my head for more than 10 years and i wasnt even remembering the first line right
The Bagger McGuirk scene should have been included. And the "Coach wants to wear em. Coach wants to fly away" scene from Shore Leave. Or, like, every scene with Coach McGuirk.
John H. Benjamin will always be coach Mcguirk to me, his voice and delivery is up there with such legends as Allan Reed ( original Fred Flintstone , Dan Castellanta ( Homer ) and Mel Blanc ( Bugs Bunny characters voices as well as Barney Rubble ).
I've used Coach McGuirk as my avatar on the computer for about a decade now. I assume it will continue this way. And my kids will grow up and learn to use the computer and probably always see it, but never really know where it came from or that it was even a cartoon. And then one day they will get curious or stumble upon something that leads them to this video. They'll recognize his grossly bulbous face instantly, and anxiously load the video to witness this shitty looking character that had apparently inspired my dad for many years, start watching it and be like, "oh god...my dad is an idiot"
This show lives on through Bob's. There's "The Hurt Soccer" episode which has Bob as a makeshift soccer coach and Brendon Small even has a cameo. Brendon does the voice of the animal control guy in "Dawn of the Peck" as well. Theres a few other references in there too. Like Andy and Ollie are basically Walter and Perry, the former being voiced by Sarah Silverman and her sister. The voice actor who did Melissa also has a couple cameos as well. H.John voiced Jason on home movies and uses that voice for Zander the klepto in one episode.
Funny you mention that, I've pondered the notion of McGuirk having his own series, too, and I keep coming to the conclusion that it probably just wouldn't be as funny - a huge part of McGuirk's humor is how he plays off the other characters.
lol ik it's H jon benjamin..but MCGUIRK needs his own show..that focuses on his perspective. ..but then again, he just coaches soccer, and goes home. It's a prison
My god....Coming here I figured I was one of the only people out there who felt Coach McGuirk was one of the funniest & greatest TV characters of all time....now I see that not only am I not alone but I was right about his greatness all along! I've tried getting my brothers into this show & thew character McGuirk.....they just write it off as some weird cartoon thats on late at night. Bastards...they'll see. Everybody will see one of these days...
I remember when I started watching this show and other shows at 8:00pm at night around the summer of 2001 before I started 6th Grade. Great Memories. Coach McGuirk is still one of my favorite characters of all time
I can't hear any of this without imagining Bob saying this. I feel like coach is that perfect middle ground right between Bob and Archer personality wise and I find that kinda funny.
SUCH a good show. When Cartoon Network was running them at like 4 in the morning, I managed to grab about 23 on my DVR. And that's after deleting some of the less classic ones
it's funny because to this day, even though i discovered this show at 17 yrs old in 2007, i still remember the drinking safely rules from McGuirk. it helped me then & still does @ 23 when i might attempt to drink different things at once. Lol. "Liquor before beer, never fear. Beer before liquor, throw up quicker." ;) this show was definitely under-rated!
I'm remember watching Home Movies when I was young and out of all the characters, Couch Mcguirk was my favorite. I use to own the season 3 dvd of home movies once.
6:35 I remember being like 10 waking up to this in the middle of the night and I carried that with me till this day and I never knew it came from this show
I love when he shows up for the play in the car and at first you can just see him like struggling to open it and his like muffled words. Makes me laugh everytime
I wish they'd included the camping scene. When he's talking to Brendan about how everything tastes like pee and he knows what pee tastes like...HILARIOUS
