@@nickelam3864 true but I still think it was case of "choosing" not to see the bs rather than not being able to. Not sure if that makes any sense if not---> I just mean ivar knew it was impossible but felt he needed one so he accepted some bullshit and presented it as fact. I actually think he did the same thing with him being a god as it did two things: (1)make his warriors follow him without question and ignore/aid in his tyranny (2) justified anything and everything he did (3) boost his ego. My logic on this is some Cult leaders who start their "religions" don't actually believe their own bullshit in the beginning and are just looking for way to do what they want and/or give themselves a sense of power so they make up stuff and twist pre-existing text to fit themselves and their personal desires so no one can calls them out for whatever wrong they're doing. Like any tyrant they use fear to control the masses and also try to make themselves seem more "divine" than the rest of humanity. It takes a minute for cult leader to truly start believing their own BS. I've always thought ivar was in that stage of starting to believe but didn't quite yet which is why when he was with olge(?) of kiev he only ever mentioned being a god when he was trying to get olge(?) to see him as an equal but otherwise played the position as "Viking pet" quite well. He only every showed intelligence and cunning nature behind closed doors when he was plotting which he actually managed to do at the right times like the very intelligent person the show, ragnar and real history tells us he was.
