I love it, things like that are priceless. It's very rare that a character garners as much hatred as she does, I actually feel for her. Like those scenes where the women who are training for the women's whatever it was called the beauty show. When everyone else was talking to each other Peggy was sitting by herself. With the problems her dealing with the large feet which I don't get people being hateful towards someone with big feet. I don't have long feet mine are more wider than anything.
Peggy gets a lot of shit and can definitely be insufferable when she's at her worst, but she's still honest, hard-working, and undeniably dedicated to her family. She's always prepared to give 110% to Hank, Bobby, and Luanne. Luanne isn't even her kid, and she didn't have to step in and step up, but she decided to be a mother and mentor for her niece. Peggy is full of herself, but she's also full of love for her family, so I can give her a pass.
When Hank was accused of racism, she started to believe in it and got mad at Hank for women trying to hit on him even though he flat out rejected them.
One of the more subtle parts of Peggy's personality is that for all her many flaws, she's actually a badass who doesn't flinch in the face of danger. There was one episode where they thought they were being robbed, and Peggy breaks off a chair leg and is ready to throw down like it's nothing.
Selfish? Yes. Arrogant? Definitely. Sanctimonious? Absolutely. Peggy is a woman with serious flaws and delusions of grandeur, but she's not cruel, spiteful or sadistic like her mother, which is clearly why she behaves the way she does. Traumatized and desperate to be different, she at least wants to be a better person. For that, I can cut her just a little bit of slack.
That was a retcon that came out several years after Pegg’s character had already been established. Peggy’s mother appeared in a few earlier episodes and she was totally different from how she had been portrayed before. The original version of her mother was kind and actually had a mother/daughter relationship with Peggy. Then there was the whole Luanne’s father being retconned having been in jail since she was a kid, when many episodes had said she only recently moved in with the Hills after her mother attacked her father with a fork.
Peggy Hill is definitely one of the best characters on this show. Missing the wonderful scene where she explains what happened with Lupe in Spanish to the court.
That has to be one of the best episodes ever! The substitute teacher of Spanish who doesn't know too much Spanish. Confuses the word embarrass with pregnant and "carnicero"(butcher) with carnival etc etc. I love Peggy and I wish they would bring it back!!
@@m3n3lli Specifically, a morning star flail. Morning star just refers to the head of the weapon. There are morning star maces as well, the chain between the shaft and head makes it a flail instead of a mace (I'm including the bit about the chain for OP.)
@@reepacheirpfirewalker8629 She's a good wife and mother, for sure. The older I get the more I see that the best "people" on the show were actually some of the biggest squares, not the smooth talking Nancy or John Sauvecorn.
If anything in there is a sexual reference, I have a difficult time imagining much beyond Leave It to Beaver levels between Hank and Peggy. They might have had some alcohol beforehand, but I can't imagine anything else. ... Uh, then again, there _is_ that nudist forest.
@@therighteously8454 infedelity isnt a problem if the couple agrees to it, they're still being faithful to the relationship, (I'm not arguing that infidelity isnt unattractive it very much is, I'm arguing that conceting couples isnt infidelity)
I love Peggy. She represents the worst of American overconfidence and lack of self awareness in microcosm. And she usually gets some of the best lines.
That's one way to look at it. I see it as a commentary on what makes a marriage successful. It doesn't take two perfect people. It's a realistic look at what lifelong partnership actually looks like. We see her as an irritating person who is... the Dunning-Kruger effect personified. Despite all her shortcomings, she loves Hank and stands by him, and he's got her back when she needs it. Together they're working through every problem that comes their way. They raise Bobby the best way they know how. But I think you're also right. I see that allegory in her character. Still, the Hills are just one archetype of American families. It shows the flaws and shortcomings of our culture while highlighting the things about America that make us proud. It's not all negative. Every one of us could be made into a cartoon character worth laughing at, not just these quaint Texans.
@@GodinSpace don't call her a Karen she may be a white woman but she's a decent good-hearted white woman she has her flaws yes but just remember no one is perfect because only god is perfect 😇🙏 God bless you brother
@@GodinSpace but brother on the plus side she's not a racist because usually Karen is usually a white woman that's racist like Paula Deen for example. But correct me if I'm wrong
Both have thier place Charcoal is great for beef pork chicken fish and vegetables. Propane is acceptable for tactical barbeques and situations where dumping ashes is frowned upon, its a convenient option when speed is required.
It’s weird seeing how many fans hate Peggy. She’s honestly one of the best characters in the show. She’s nowhere near as destructive and obnoxious as Lois from Family Guy.
I agree I love Peggy, which is ironic since she's similar to my grandmother in terms of narcissism. Spot on for addressing the fact that Lois is worse, almost a borderline sociopath is what Lois is.
She got jealous of her own son because Hank finally started bonding with him. She pretended to be a nun just to get a teaching job and made a joke out of Catholicism. She kidnapped a Mexican child during a field trip to Mexico. Bruh she's annoying
Agent X The Mexican child was an accident because she’s not as good at Spanish as she think she is So she stupidly missed took her for one of the students and then proceeded to do everything wrong when she realize the mistake she made she’s not so much bad as she is just very very stupid
Look at what she did to Bobby with his first breakup, she just rubs his face in it. What kind of parent does that, or the other acts of jealousy toward Bobby previously mentioned? She’s self righteous and super full of herself to the point of narcissism. She’s bossy, a know-it-all and can never admit when she’s wrong. I could go on all day. She’s almost like a female Trump. I don’t know how anyone could not hate her. She’s insufferable.
"You brought charcoal into our house!" "I didn't know what it was! Luanne asked me to hold it for her! I thought it was drugs!" Why this makes me laugh so hard is a mystery
You shoulda seen when she punched Cotton Hill in the nose, he got a bloody one and said Peggy had some fight in her. I could be remembering it slightly wrong, but that's the gist of it.
Stacked up together, these scenes can put Peggy in a negative light, but at her core she is a good person despite being pretty self-centered. If other characters had all of her characteristics, especially male characters, they wouldn't get nearly as much criticism as she does. I hate how people are so critical of complex characters.
Do you remember when Peggy discovered that Hank was basically sexually assaulted at 17 by a random girl, and rather than tell her and upset her he kept it to himself, and Peggy made his life hell for a week
1 That's because of a couple of generations' narrow minded view on sexual assault and 2 he made her believe in a 20 year old lie and tarnished her ideal view of their relationship (which is special to someone married to a man that rarely says I love you) and it was hard for her to forgive. Also "made his life hell" he got _gasoline in her eyes_ ! Moral of the story: Hank should've told Peggy years ago, worst case scenario she would've found that girl and kicked her ass
one of the few instances where removing a scene actually improved the joke. in the syndicated version you never saw them explain that she was found not guilty but in the truncated version, it goes right to the credits after she says "im going to jail"
At least Peggy tries to be good. She gives 110% to those she cares about. We always talk about her worst, but at her best she's an amazingly kind hearted woman
ok but the best part about Peggy Hill is that she’s more like the fathers in animated shows vs the mothers. She’s just as loud, annoying, problematic, overconfident, etc etc like the men characters, and she’s allowed to be as messy as them and make a damn fool out of herself but also still be a character you can’t help but love despite her flaws. She’s not perfect vision of femininity or motherhood, she’s not a long suffering doormat, she’s not someone who can clearly do better and married way below her, she’s a hot ass mess and I think the most accurate reflection of a real woman-flaws and all-in an animated show. You might not have ever met a Marge or Lois in your life but you sure have all met some version of a Peggy Hill thats for damn sure.
Awww I miss king of the Hill so much. I've watched so many rerun's, never got tried of them. Honestly, Peggy could get on anyone's nerves LoL still love💜 the shit💩 out of her LMAO I think Hank, Dale, Boomhauer, Bill &last but not least Bobby Hill. Cotton was cool &baby GH "Good Hank" LoL Man I miss this show I feel like I shouldn't love a cartoon anymore but as I grew up the love never went away LoL
Weird cause no one likes Peggy I always found her to be so fabulous! Confident and bold in the face of reality and adversity. While insanely insecure she attacks any doubters head on!
