Omg, "better using that animal than one that climbs a tree and eats bananas"?! Is it just me or does anyone else find this extremely disgusting of Adam Carola to say?
The first time you hear one of norms jokes, it’s like watching a drunk guy stumble a tightrope, barely hanging on, then landing a perfect finish out of nowhere. The second time you hear the joke, you realize the guy was sober the whole time, and the joke was that you thought he was drunk.
I mean the way he was whenever he was on Conan… he looked like a master dog trainer strutting his prize pupil to the podium on a leash except the pupil was a dumb joke and the podium was the punch line and once he got there he just smiled proudly
During the 90's when I could only watch Conan in the middle of the night on Saturdays, seeing norm on there was like some legendary moment in punk music, you knew you were watching something rare and fantastic. I still remember the "b o r e d" and running from the ass grinding mtv people stories from that time 😂
I loved how Norm could spin that endless, seamless yarn and lure you onto a path to both a completely bizarre and ridiculously funny journey. Miss that guy
What made Norm special is that the glint in his eyes and his childish yet devilish grin was for his amusement and his ALONE! Norm could careless if the joke was not found to be funny by the people, he simply told these long drawn out stories for his inner child self. His goal was to make himself smile and that's what separated him from other comics. Norm was a Top 10 comedian in my view. Such a transcendent comic, and yet was a courageous man in the face of his illness. 😢 RIP Norm, you made and left your mark! Deeply missed 😢
The beginning part with Carson gives me chills...he had already been fighting cancer for YEARS, and he was just trying to convey the message "Be happy and know how lucky you are that you even exist - enjoy life." He was fought so hard to live for like 10 years battling cancer...the dude is and always will be a comedy legend! Enjoy life!!!
That's one of the lessons of living with chronic health conditions and disabilities I was born with developmental disabilities and acquired chronic pain in my 20s. My mom is in her early 20s and is a full-time wheelchair user. I am amazed at 31 years old now that I'm alive and as healthy as I am. And now a lot of my favorite comedians and other artists / performers are disabled in one way or another too.
Good Riddance Norm MacDonald! Norm was a MAGA before Drumpf, he was anti-progressive, anti-LGBT, anti-Feminist, everything, a rank-neocon hack, and the only thing that he and his co-writer got fired over were O.J. comments. That whole era of trickle-down lies poisoned SNL to this day, and MacDonald was one of the worst bomb thrower's for it, just like Denis Miller, and look at the political beliefs of all those cast member from that time today and 90% or more are even more fascist now! Hollywood isn't WOKE at all, it's not for helping anyone but the wealthy tyrants.
I wonder if most people realize that Norm was/is smarter than 99% of the population. An actual genius. Every word, every pause, by design. The only redeeming quality of the internet is that we can celebrate him anytime.
He finished high school two years early and went straight to university for mathematics and philosophy before comedy, but would always tell people he dropped out in high school. Best to ever do it imo.
There is nothing like listening to Conan talk about Norm's comedic choices. He spoke so lovingly, and admirably about Norm, that was was way before Norm even passed. I love when Conan refers to Norms jokes as "Farmer's Wives" jokes or "Traveling Salesman" jokes 😂😂😂 And he explains that he doesn't laugh at the joke, but instead he laughs at the audacity of Norm to attempt that joke to an audience. Conan said that it was like watching Norm split an atom lmao Imagine having that much love from one of your colleagues or contemporaries ❤️❤️❤️
Jeff Ross said when he was with Norm at clubs if he killed he would go to the back room and play cards. When he bombed he would go to the exit and say goodbye to everyone in the club. Legend.
Every time I watch these clips, I'm absolutely flabbergasted that multiple people thought it was a good idea to give Carson Daly a late night talk show.
I love Norm’s commitment to a joke that has to run around the block a few times before he finds the punchline. God definitely broke the mold after he made Niorm. I hope he is laughing for eternity.
The logic joke is a masterclass in Norms humour. The way he hooks the crowd back in with the stupid random chicken line only to waste the next minute of their time talking about waiting for a completely irrelevant bus. That and the moth joke shine bright for me in an otherwise sparkling career.
And yet the chicken comes back in as the second punchline at the very end. He had a way of giving two or three punchlines to a joke. He may not even have planned them all the time, but throwing in a random thing in the middle of the story gives him something to work with in the end.
God this man was funny. The best dry humor I've ever seen. It was great because he would let an uncomfortable joke sit. Waiting for the audience to come around to it. A master at work. Miss you Norm and I hope you're making them laugh in the next gig in the sky!! ❤️❤️
@@jbean9021 people who are invested in the comedy world view Norm as the legend and the golden standard of being a comic, while the majority of people hardly know who he is (maybe US citizens that grew up in his SNL era know him well too). Majority of people know names that are mainstream like Chapelle etc. while Norm appearances and shows are kinda niche, especially for younger audiences. The fact he is not alive anymore is not helping. But I think it’s more or less on purpose, he was never trying to be the center of attention. Better went as underrated than overrated for sure. Peace
Conan: "I should be all tucked in bed listening to you" *crowd laughs* *a single tear falling from my eye as i am tucked into bed listening to my favorite comedian tell a story* Rest in peace Norm. love you forever.
He cited Leo Tolstoy as an influence. Only a genius would have that level of insight into the human condition. Norm was a psychologist and philosopher playing a comedian.
When he convinced Barbara Walters that he'd only read a single book his entire life and she insultingly asks, "What woman would want a man that's only read one book?" Norm replies, "Well, I have a lot of MONEY." Simply awesome.
All hail the great David Letterman. What a smart, witty and compssionate host. No interruptions and all the comebacks and questions are right on the spot. Loved him and still do!
Norm was a genuine genius and spontaneous. Even when he goofed up he would look back at the crowd and they would break out laughing and it never phased him at all, he finished the joke when most people would just die on the stage of fright.
@@DJDownes100 yeah. I heard he graduated high school 2 years early and went to a good college for math and philosophy. But he would tell people he was a high school drop out because he knew the average person doesn't really like smart people
I can only hope a new generation finds this man's humor and laughs at him as hard as so many of us have for years. RIP Norm. You'll be missed for a long time to come.
@@OD_G00N yes. And also I’ve seen this exact comment before on some other comedians video like ten years ago. Or I saw the future and it was this exact thing
@@queenpurple8433 I don't know about you seeing the future but I posted my comment last night while watching Norm videos after hearing about his silent, decade long fight with cancer.
Right now I'm picturing Norm standing at the pearly gates, ordering a Polish sausage, and making the angels crap their pants with laughter. Rest in peace, Norm.
Norm’s relationship w/ Dave was truly special. Norm never forgot that he had given him his first real break and it shows in their banter. I miss him for many reasons but I fear they are selfish and I would never wish Norm to give me one of his “looks”. So glad we have clips to rewatch when we need our Norm fix. Adios my friend
"No he wasn't Polish, he was from my cousin's side of the family." What I love most about that joke is that he said it seriously and continued with the story, like he was trying to slip it past the audience. It's times like this where you can definitely see the influence of literature on his comedy style.
For anyone curious, "coaly" is a real word. Norm's vocabulary is incredible. Definition of coaly (Entry 1 of 2) \ ˈkōlē, -li \ : covered or impregnated with coal : containing or resembling coal
Always thought sex was like roller coasters. The first ride is great but after a while you gotta find a better coaster. Then you just kinda outgrow them altogether.
The joy in his face when he makes others laugh is so refreshing compared to comics that just do crowd work and mock people and laugh at their own jokes . He laughs at others laughing 💖
"coaly" is a word, and it describes exactly what Norm wanted to portray. But that's the genius of Norm, letting others think they're smarter than him and not correcting them.
After he passed several comedians were talking about something like this. He would often purposely mispronounce words for comedy. I think he did it in this clip when he said "mafia"
this is a recurring joke from norm. Naming a celebrity but actually saying the name of another celebrity with the same first name and same last initial. Kills me every time. @@emidom2004
@Drillo It's funny because you can't discern what side of the family he's talking about or what side could be polish. Its just a stupid answer that sounds legit at first until you think about it. Its like a Bugs bunny joke that takes the bad guy a few seconds to figure out while Bugs gets away.
One of a kind comic! Once in a generation comic that was genius to all generations. "Was a generational type thing". RIP NORM! You are still bringing us laughs 2 years after leaving us! Thanks for all the memories we have to see your comedy at the click of a button!
I won't say I was an avid fan , I knew of him and have always thought he was funny but since seeing sooooooo many people react to his passing I started binge watching all his stuff. I'm addicted, the man was a comedic genius and an absolute legend. Anyways, thanks Norm. It is clear to me that you will truly be missed.
That moment at 15:15 when Norm pauses immediately after Dave turns his “it’s a generational thing” back on him is a wonderful, subtle, “tip of the hat” acknowledgment from one GOAT to another.
A Time will come where the world will forget great politicians and other great someone's, but Norm will keep being appreciated by generations to come and never forgotten :)
Comedic genius yes. Guy who makes me laugh out loud(lol), often until it hurts, more than any other sure. A scholar and a gentlemen? I have no doubt about it. But most importantly, for me, the man who, when I’m watching him do his thing, never fails to keep the smile on my face the whole time. Through laughter and tears there is always that smile and I’m actually not sure that it’s possible for me to not have that smile on my face when I’m watching Norm no matter what’s going on for me in my everyday humdrum life. Amazing. God bless you Norm MacDonald.
@@EternamDoov Uhhh actually I have a group of 13 year olds locked in my basement and none of them could come up with this bit even when I sprayed them with the hose. So you're wrong.
Letterman mostly stayed out of the way. Conan would interject, but he was one of the few who could be an effective straight man for Norm because he knew the score. Note also that Conan would have Norm on first and then keep him around specifically so that he could derail the next guest’s interview. 😂 Props to Conan for that
Norm has incredible comedic timing. He knows exactly where to pause and allow the words to hang in the air, building the anticipation for the punchline. Just brilliant.
Norm was the king of not giving a shit and feeling like he's in a secret club who gets his own jokes. That takes some balls! Much of his jokes were on his own audience 😂
I may have fallen asleep to this video hundreds of times. It was 2015 thru 2017 when these clips made me happy as I fell asleep nearly every night for big chunks of those years. I watched and listened to norm at my highest and lowest. When I was at my lowest, his comedy made me truly happy and optimistic.
Every comis wishes they had the ability to walk on stage with no ideas, intentionally losing the crowd, winning them back, and then have them rolling on the floor laughing in less than 45 minutes! What amazing skill. I know this particular time was somewhat planned out, but that's what he did in his stand up act. And it was equally amazing everytime I have ever seen it in person.
Norm Macdonald's segment on the roast of Bob Sagat has to be one of the greatest routines EVER. The producers told him to be as raunchy and filthy as he could be, much like every other comedians they have on the roasts. So what does Norm do? He literally does one amazing old dad joke after another. Half the crowd has no idea what's going on but all the real comedians knew exactly what he was doing, he killed the room without using 1 cuss word or 1 dirty joke, absolutely classic.
OK, thanks!!!!! ...now I have to look for that in RU-vid 😅 That's how I discovered Bill Burr, from the comments section in a RU-vid Video. Someone said to watch 'epidemic of gold diggin' whores' ...bin a HUGE fan ever since 😁💜✌. Even saw him live last year in Frankfurt Germany.
