...I should add I like the dreamtime lp..it was the 2(?) That followed ..The band always had top rate 7" ..but having 2 covers 'All day'' & '96 tears' that were not 'walk on by' style reinventions to me seemed like it was a job & not much more ...but that's what's great about some things ' an ability to surprise'..SO what happens to 'the Stranglers' now
The Stranglers musically were my 1st love.... & still are. But whenever l see Dave play live, especially with Jet l always feel sad & nostalgic 😢. Most underrated & long serving & impressive British band - EVER!
Golden Brown is a song that when ever i hear it, it gives me a warm wonderful feeling inside , then found out today that the lovely melodic keyboard playing was that of a man that died of Coronavirus. So glad to know i learnt of his name DAVE and got to know his face. I was born in 1976 so the song brings back lovely memories for me. Thank you Dave!
I bought No More Heroes first and l think l bought Rattus Norvigicus after and Black and White from a kid at school ,,saw the Stranglers for the first time live in Bristol in 1979 when they brought the Raven Album out. I still love the first 5 Albums the most. Really sad to hear Dave Greenfield has past , RIP Dave , best keyboard player by far
Saw the Stranglers at Warwick University in the early-mid 80's it was packed.... they opened with this in pitch darkness 06:20 the lights came on at 06:25 - spine-tingling stuff for a 15 year old !!
I saw them in Portugal, 1979, in Cascais Pavilhão, near Lisbon, to see the RAVAN... I was 19, went by train alone for the first time, from Coimbra 200 km away... In the Hall, weed everywhere, then tried to come back to Lisbon by train, people started throwing stones into the train car... I was hit, got out of the train in Oeiras, I got sewn in my forehead, then walked anout 15km as the sun rose... What a defining moment for me...
I love the stranglers but only the hugh cornwell days ive been there and got the t shirt rip dave i will never forget the edin odean gig in 81 when you opened the gig with shah shah a go go you won the bet that night from my mate pete and les the rosewell boys ;)
I'm with you about Hugh. Tried listening to 'Sugar Bullets' but it sounded like Rainbow not the Stranglers, so I gave up. Did get a shock hearing Dave was dead, very sad.
Jean J Burnel made an appearance on that stage when it was the Civic Centre. He received the school prize for history and his chosen book (the prize) was Chairman Mao's 'Little Red Book', which was wrapped in brown paper, so it didn't offend the person presenting the prize.
very hard to watch - with the visuals they were experimenting with at the time . Still changed my outlook on life . Music and news - that we never had acess to - in the 70,s - of course love my post Stranglers excistance . There is no other
They could not replace Hugh Cornwell, now that Dave Greenfield has gone, that for me is the end of the stranglers, as a band, until Hugh decides to step in, even then be hard without Dave.
I hope they carry on but how can you replace Dave Greenfield?this is a big loss for everybody connected to the stranglers.I had planned to see them play Belfast on 30th May which will now not happen off course.it is just over one week now since we have lost Dave and I'm still gutted and still feeling very sad.his music will live forever.thankyou so much Dave for the memories and the wonderful music.RIP my friend.never forgotten.💔💕
They always said they'd stop when Jet died, but obviously he's still here but surely they will call it a day? I mean they might do a memorial gig with guest keyboardist but how do you replace Dave permanently? No, a couple of memorial gigs then retire the band
Look at the camera vibrating when JJ whacks the bass with his fist. It doesn't come across on this video because the acoustics aren't good enough, but in the hall the vibrations rattled your bones. You had to be there to experience it.
Us 'real fans' were there at the Rainbow, Marquee etc in '76-'78 and on... so F off Bazzer if I can be bothered to come and see your lighter incarnation (more for JJ nowadays than anything) I've earned a seat. We're not going to be re-sold 70s anger as it no longer exists. Talent or nothing.
I'm guessing you're hinting at no Hugh . Well , he's been gone nearly 30 years now , part of the history of course , but better now than Hugh era 10 IMO . I'd rather have The Stranglers in this form than no Stranglers at all ...... also a couple of fairly recent albums were corkers- Norfolk Coast and Suite Xvi so far from a spent force even now .
I was there, and it was a great night (neither the first nor the last). It was a privilege to follow The Stranglers for over 40 years, but it's done now.
Awful, obviously you never saw a Stranglers show back in the day JJ needs to realize once and for all this "incarceration" will never really be the Band just a really ok cover band . Its painful for real SIS folks to listen to
John Vetter I have loved The Stranglers since I was 14 , 41 years ago so did see them live many times with Hugh - There have been highs and lows during this time but I used to play Bass guitar in a punk band in my late teens so it was JJ who was the main attraction for me and I still love his bass sound/ playing today and thankful I have still been able to see him play for all these years :)
Saw them in brum on the the 16/03/19 absolutely crap rushed through the set performed mostly new material missing out on most of there hits one hour fourty minutes including the encore there gigs are getting shorter each time stranglers you have sold out to your fans sadly
