@@NickHarman Yeah, so I heard, like so many others that have been lost he had underlying issues. I never met him, but I cheered from the crowd many times.
The Stranglers really are of the greatest in rock music. Not only are they all excellent musicians and performers they are so precise and can play live with no backing tales or bullshit. I was fortunate enough to see them back in the early 80s and to this day it's one of the best shows I've ever seen (and heard) and I have been to many concerts over the years and seen most of the 'greats.' Original, creative, powerful, vibrant, menacing and brilliant. Dave is missed terribly. RIP
Farewell Dave Greenfield, you were an inspiration and the first true punk keyboard player ever! Your mesmerising wandering & hypnotic arpeggios will forever be held close to my heart and part of my young adult life! RIP! Thank you for the great music that will last for an eternity.
I was at this gig. When they played their set again , it was even more intense. The best I saw them & the previous times I saw them Hugh was in the band.
How greatful I am to hae discovered the Stranglers, in my 50s, and entranced by every new song I hear. I love the keyboard aspect, and was saddened to hear of Mr Greenfield's passing.
"A punk band with keyboards... WTF?" is what I said in 80 or 81 just before my buddy dropped the needle on Live X and I haven't looked back. DG is a musician's musician and always will be. RIP you arpeggio-shooting madman!
We all were mate but Hugh wanted out the rest carried on. The continued popularity proved they were right. Last saw them supporting Alice cooper great night RIP Dave
..17..paper round wages saved up RATTUS...awaited...virgin vinyl on the turntable ..full blast ..Orgasmic .THEN at the Farnale..Dave's slick magic on Down in the Sewer...no track EVER by any group had such an effect ..Heartbroken we have lost more than a legend..The guys can never hope to replace a once in a generation keyboard wizard ..Waltzinblack Dave xx
Great performance. Glad they sorted out the live sound. I saw them as one of the support actors to the Who at Wembley in Summer of 79. The sound was awful. All bass with no dynamic. If you listen to the Battersea Park gig on You Tube that’s exactly what it was like. Back to this performance It’s great to here Dave’s fabulous keyboard work and the guitar breaking through the bass.
I was at Wembley in '79 too. What a line up! Don't remember the sound quality. Was just psyched to be at my first concert, aged 16. But if it's got to be all bass, it might as well be the unique 'lead guitar' bass sound of J.J.Burnel.
I was sorry to hear about Dave. This was sad too. Keyboards were an integral part of The Stranglers experience. This was painful to watch. They got by!
Why is it that you never, never!, see black people at gigs? You just don't see black people at live rock gigs Am I a racist? Does not seeing something make you a racist?
Fuck off troll, the Stranglers produced a great gig which brought audiences of all ages together right up until the fruitless lockdown. You are a pig and a fool mate.
@@UncleBoratagain without Cornwell it simply isn't the Stranglers that's a fact not a troll. But by the nature of your response trolling would seem to your specialist subject Max !!!
@@UncleBoratagain max you obviously have hearing and learning difficulties. the geordie karaoke fanboy replacement for Cornwell is downright embarrassing. Get a life and try not to be a loser for your whole pathetic existence lol.
