Thanks, yea I figured it’d be unique content in a way. Doesn’t have to be the funniest thing people have ever seen, but given the landscape, it stands out.
If popping up head, that means there not watching the ball. Best advice I got about that was, watch the ball hit your paddle & watch it leave your paddle! Thanks for the great pod cast
tried the deep cross court high return and its a winner .....walked up to the kitchen once i dialed it in thanks so much!!! btw love the fun facts too🤪
Great tips- a lot of people in our club will come in early and do dink warm ups. That’s good but I spend more time practicing and warming up on targeting the deep serve and deep/cross court return for all the reasons you mention. 🥰
Also some courts are so close together on the sides that I think people just avoid putting it away at a sharp angle. Sometimes there is a game right next to you and it almost seems rude.
I guess coming from the other end. When receiving a high bounce return (about chest height) how do you hit your 3rd? It’s an awkward position to hit a drive or waiting extra long and backing up to do a drop.
The higher the bounce; the more likely I am to drive the ball. If you want to be more conservative with the drive, go low to the middle and essentially use it as a set up shot for an easier 5th
@@ATA-wi2lhhahaha yea sometimes I can drag on and on about topics, it’s tough not to since it’s essentially a stream of consciousness. For future reference, every topic is labeled so you can skip to what you want to watch. I won’t be offended😂
Hahah I might need a different way to explain that, doesn’t really make a lot of sense 😂

Great stuff, James! Regarding short returns (i.e. a 2nd shot drop), they can be effective against less mobile (typically senior) players when they are standing back at the baseline. Regarding any pros that pop-up their heads, Riley Newman comes to mind. Here are some examples: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6VjdlWXJGiw.html
Thanks for the comment! Totally makes sense. I still wouldn’t teach people to pop their heads up on the drop. Just like I wouldn’t teach people to split step like me haha
I don’t think you should while you’re making contact with the ball. After you’ve made contact with the ball, you’re free to come up. But a quick upward jerking motion during contact of third shot drops and transitional shots in general seems to be a huge cause for errors below the 5.0 level
RU-vid recommended this vid and was genuinely curious about the topic. It took 7 minutes and 20 seconds to get to the point. I finished washing dishes and I’m leaving.
