I quit spraying my neck the day my wife said that the fragrance I was wearing tastes terrible. I did a taste test to confirm, which made me question why make skin where she likes to snuggle and kiss taste bitter? For me (and perhaps many others) that’s an important consideration. Since then, I have primarily sprayed my forearms and areas underneath clothing. So your tip to spray the stomach area really appeals to my sensibilities and consideration of my partner. Thanks for the great content!

Make sure you don’t get sun when you have perfume on as it may cause your skin to get hyperpigmentation.

I've always sprayed my forearms, as it helps projection, especially if you do any kind of work that involves any level of arm movement. It also makes it easier to get a sneaky sniff of your own frag during the day. For research purposes, of course. 😁

Thanks for pointing out wrist skin distorts perfume. For me, shoulder skin is best. We have fewer sweat glands there, and I find the scent stays true to its essence there. And you get nice wafts of your perfume throughout the day. That's how I made friends with Chanel No. 5. It doesn't get salty or sweaty on shoulders. Midriff area, yes! I have done that for years. My pet peeve -- people who saturate their clothing in their cloying, overpowering scent and then hug everyone. It feels like a trespass, after I have carefully chosen my own scent to go with my outfit. Thanks for this fun video!

Definitely agree on the avoidance of wrist application. I work on a keyboard all day; if I applied to my pulse point it would be gone within 20 minutes of me starting work. I always spray the top of my wrist/forearm instead.

I have been a fragrance wearer for over 58 years and know how to get the most projection from fewer sprays. It is about warmth and pulse points. Putting fragrance on my forearm does nothing for me unless it hits the elbow crook or wrist, and my wrists do last hours and sway the fragrance in the air. So does the base of my neck, the chest, back of neck, behind my knees for strong perfumes or when I wear skirts, and the ears work as well. The issue these days is a lot of fragrances don’t have the punch and quality of ingredients to carry fragrance forward. I have actually had people say they can smell the perfume strongly when worn properly, and with eau de parfum, I can reduce my sprays down.

Very interesting! Thanks, Ashley! I often do the typical behind the ears and forearms. It makes sense though to avoid thin skinned areas, so no more behind the ears for me. And I want to try behind the knees with a couple of fragrances (that smell amazing otherwise) which usually turn funky on me, but now I think it's because I put it on warm thin skinned parts of me.

This makes so much sense! I was always told that pulse points were the best places to spray because the heat makes the scent louder and livelier but in actuality it's ''killing it''. I like to spray my forearm just below where the t-shirt's sleeve ends and I've always sprayed my chest/stomach and back even though I have no idea how that came to be.

What a superb video. It appears I may have been doing this right all these years, despite being told a thousand times that I apply fragrances incorrectly. I spray (depending on the fragrance of course) a holy cross formation on my torso - two on my sides (about midway from armpit to waist); one just above my belly button and one on my chest. This most likely has been the reason I seem to get excellent longevity from fragrances. I wonder also, Ashley, if having a hairy torso aids longevity. Does hair hold fragrance molecules better than skin? I am wearing Azzaro Pour Homme today, and just the four sprays has given me a strong 12 hours (it feels it can go for another 4 hours easy), where I've read many men say they barely get 6 hours out of it. Skin chemistry plays a part, I'm sure, but where you apply the fragrance must also surely play a significant role in achieving good projection and longevity. Thank you again for yet another absorbing (pardon the pun) and informative video. Be healthy, successful and happy always.

I have tried applying perfume on the back of my hands and on my outer forearms days before I encountered this video. I certainly noticed a change in performance and I could get a whiff of my perfume more often, which made me realize that if I could smell it that often, then people around me could smell it that often too (which is what I aim when wearing non-beast mode perfumes). It feels reassuring to know that the trick I also discovered by myself was not just a waste of perfume! Thank you for the great video!

Good tip about the back of the knees. I have a few fragrances that would definitely qualify for that treatment. Maybe I can get some more use out of them. As for my usual routine, I've been spraying the outside of my forearms for years. More recently, I've been spraying the back of my head, just above my neck, and also the back of my hands. These locations won't be covered by clothing, and contribute to sillage, while not being too close to my nose (e.g., I never spray my neck).

Great and informative video. When applying a scent, do you spray and leave it or do you rub it in? My uneducated guess is that you spray and leave it but over the years I've seen in ads, etc. applying a scent and then rubbing it to spread it around or to soak into the spot. Thanks again for your amazing videos.

I always spray my forearms and not my wrists. My wrists are not actually very warm, and I usually wear a wristwatch and bracelets. My forearm also provides much more surface area to capture fragrance than my wrist which I believe makes a difference in protection, sillage, and longevity!

The stomach is a great tip, will try it spraying directly on it. I mean, not down from the neck opening of the shirt as I usually do. That might also reach the stomach, but the larger % of that spraying goes to the chest I'm sure. Among the best places I also think are outer arms and top of forearms.

@just add light when spraying on the areas you mentioned, will you be able to smell the fragrance from underneath your clothing? I tried spraying the “supraclavicular fossa” and I could barely smell the fragrance while wearing a crew neck shirt?! Any advice?
@justaddlight
@justaddlight 2 года назад
@@RobertLaTuso I know what you mean. One of the primary reasons I don't spray the neck is to prevent becoming overwhelmed by a strong fragrance and developing olfactory fatigue. But I always double tap (spray twice in the same area) and sometimes even prefer the outside of the shoulders when wearing something heavier. Clothing material is generally thinner in that area as gravity pulls the shoulders down. It still may not be sufficient to project through something like a thick sweater or coat, so I would advise spraying on top of the clothing - favouring the trapezius area and back of the head if wearing a hat. I've discovered quite a few lovely layering combos when spraying on clothing that still has some residual fragrance from the previous wearing. Hope that helps!

I like spraying behind the ears because if I spray on my neck, the fragrance makes its way up around my face; I feel nauseous just thinking about it. 1. behind my ear to avoid nasty taste for lovers plus avoids excess alcohol to contribute toward ageing 2. antecubital fossa (inside of the elbow crease), I was my hands a lot and the wrist is too close, plus its closer to head height than wrists when they're down. find it gives a more consistent release than having to literally hand wave. 3. Just behind the top button of my shirt, mosgt women are smaller than me and a great place for a hug, plus as its behind clothes it increases the longevity

If I spray on my chest or the front of my neck I automatically get an allergic reaction. Also, I wear sunscreen and applying alcohol on those parts are a no for me due to the things I have just said; also dermatologists are against it for obvious reasons and my skin is prone to descoloration due to sun damage... Sooo I do the same with my forearms and I apply like 4 sprays on the back of my neck on the same sport, I don't get allergic reactions there. If I wear a ponytail some of the small hairs of my neck catch the fragrance and that makes it last longer and when I take my shower that area get cleansed with soap but if I wear my hair down, it catches way more fragrance so if I wear another fragrance the next day I get annoyed due to the mix of aromas😅. I don't like to spray my clothes most of the time because if I wear that shirt, blouse or whatever it may be I have to wear the same fragrance on other occasions. Yes to spraying behind the knees when wearing shorts or dresses. PS: I have to admit that if I didn't get allergic reactions on my chest and front of my neck I would apply the alcohol and disregard the bigger sun damage and dermatologists' concerns 👀👀👀

I'm not surprised by any of that information. I never spray my wrists. My go-to spot is the back of my hands and then forearms and, on the arm I don't wear a watch/jewellery, I usually end up with some on my inner forearm too. I find these places allow me to be able to smell my fragrance quite well most of the day, and frankly that's what I'm mostly interested in. It's nice when others can smell me and they appreciate it, but if they can't I couldn't care less. I'm the one who wants to be able to smell me all day long! The other place I always spritz is my decolletage and the lower the better so it can snuggle in to that nice warm fleshy area. I also usually put a spritz or 2 on my neck and, on the odd occasion, behind my neck (hair up). As you can probably tell from that, I'm quite heavy handed with just about all of my fragrances. I'm really only careful with super big scents (eg Kenzo Elephant) or if it's really rare or expensive! I also have no issue with wearing heavy duty frags in the heat of summer either though I moderate my application accordingly. I've heard of applying behind the knees but never tried it since I doubt I'd even get a sniff from all the way down there (I'm tall!) so that's no use to me. Cool vid, thanks Ashley.

I recently watched a video by Roja Dove, and he advised against spraying on your neck, as the alcohol in the fragrance is bad for the sensitive, visible skin in the neck area. What do you think about that?
@ashleyinparisvideos
@ashleyinparisvideos 2 года назад
I see where he’s coming from and could see it being true for those with more sensitive skin. I think it’s personal though and as I have pretty resilient skin, I like to spray my neck :)
@thewafflez_73

He also advised against it from a vanity standpoint: because the skin is so sensitive, the alcohol dries the skin out quicker, which speeds up the aging process/ causes the neck area to age and wrinkle faster than it already does.

Not a myth, your skin needs to be moisturized if you want it to last. When you skin is dry, it sucks that stuff right up. Experiment some time, have one arm super moisturized and the other wicked dry, spray them both and see if there’s a difference in longevity.

I'm also not into applying on my wrists.

Mid-chest I find is the best place for smelling yourself. It's far enough from your nose to avoid going noseblind quickly, and your shirt captures the scent so it wafts up your collar in waves as the scent projects rather than constantly assaulting your nose. Neck and decollete area are thinner/more delicate skin, plus if you're getting intimate with someone it doesn't taste very good. :/ Behind the ears is still the first place I spray for projection. Being behind the midline of your body, and your ears, again protects you from noseblindness, and with sprays on each side of your body your scent bubble should remain balanced all around you. The entire back of neck area is where you'll get the best sillage for obvious reasons, but I'm also a guy with a typical haircut so I don't have hair covering all that up. If it's a weaker fragrance I need to spray more, then I'll supplement with forearms and across the entire back of neck or top of my head. Some people say it's bad for hair, but hairspray is also heavily alcoholic and used much more liberally... A spritz or two of perfume isn't going to ruin your hair. And right now in the winter weather, another reason I prefer back of neck is it might be the only skin I have exposed at all!

@RisingChaos when you spray mid-chest, are you spraying on skin or clothing? If you are spraying on skin, will you be able to smell through your clothing? I’m trying to find the best way to wear my fragrances throughout the day and still appreciate the nuances of the scent without going noseblind. Any advice?

@@RobertLaTuso Skin. As your fragrance projects and builds up a little scent cloud beneath your shirt, it'll eventually waft up through your collar for you to catch a whiff. It's a great place to spray if you just want to smell good for yourself. Spraying clothing often improves projection and longevity. However, dark juice can stain and really strong stuff can stick for weeks/months, so it's best left for light 'n' fresh stuff that needs a little boost.

@@RisingChaos Will the fragrance still waft through your shirt if you’re not wearing a open collared shirt? I sprayed once behind the ears and on each wrist yesterday with Fragrance du Bois “Oud bleu intense”. I could barely smell it in the air, but I could definitely smell it if I sniffed my wrist for many hours, what gives?

@@RobertLaTuso Are you just wearing skin-tight shirts and turtlenecks or what? A gas will escape the tiniest of gaps, including through the fabric if it has nowhere else to go (albeit very slowly). I don't know about your Oud Bleu Intense. You could be going noseblind, or maybe it's just a weak fragrance. I've never smelled it. Sometimes it helps if you stop trying too hard to focus on smelling it, though! Give your brain a moment to forget the smell and you might catch a faint whiff later.

What about spraying it on your hair?

I find that unless the formula is meant for hair, the fragrance doesn’t cling very well. Some people also don’t like drying effect alcohol can have on hair but for me it’s just that it doesn’t have much cling unless it’s a designated hair mist. Hope that helps!

I feel forearms are terrible because rubbing of arm rests so I prefer inner elbows

I wash my hands so much it does not make sense to spray my wrists.

I learned by accident that the stomach was the best place (for me). I purchased a beast mode fragrance and I didn’t want to offend so I decided not to spray on exposed body parts. I sprayed on my belly and it just radiated perfectly from my body all day.
