Been shooting this lens for months now, my favorite Voigtlander hands down, I compliment it with the nokton classic 35mm 1.4 ii, awesome travel photography pair

It really has this 50 summilux kind of look I think. Nice smooth bokeh with a bit of that swirl. Beatiful lens.

It is indeed a lovely lens, the optics are stunning. Got a well-loved M246 Monochrom for a great deal and this is the first lens I got for it. It's almost a 2-in-1 lens - at F1.5 it gives you that soft dreamy look but by F2.5 or so it really sharpens up. For those who like to shoot wide open in daylight, you might need to look into a 3-stop (at least) ND filter. My copy does indeed have a back-focus issue, but after a few days I got used to the fine adjustment - from the 5 metre mark to infinity, the focus throw is very very short but nothing you can't deal with. When adapted to full-frame mirrorless cameras, it's just a dream to compose and shoot through the EVF. Cheers Benj!

Thanks for another great video! I would be so interested to get the Leica M10/11 with a 35/1.4 compared with the Fuji XPro3 with the new 23/1.4 WR. Especially in terms of image quality, look in general, bokeh, ergonomics and how they focus manually would be so so interesting! Thanks for your great work!

I feel like few people are talking about this lens and it's very underrated. I first heard of it via Steve Huff and wanted to try it on my M9. I love it, but getting critical focus wide open can be tricky. I often shoot it at f2 or 2.8 to get a bit sharper, clearer image. The rendering really is special.

I've had it in silver for about a year now. Love it. Only regret is not getting it in black. I also pair it with the 35 ultron mk2. Voigtlander is really doing amazing with all these recent lenses.

I bought 2 of them recently. Focus shift do exist, need extra shim to fix the issue. I fixed them within the first day I received them. It is a marvellous lens. Micro contrast is really good on this lens.
@frankjermannphotoart
@frankjermannphotoart Год назад
What do you mean with "need extra shim"? How did you do it?
@wayneyung1262
@wayneyung1262 Год назад
@@frankjermannphotoart 1st, you need to know what make the focus shift. My 2 lenses are kind of whole lens element with front focus from near to infinity. There were 3 different shims inside the lens when leaving the factory. I added 0.04mm and make my lens perfect. I bought some copper tape and stick it to the existing shim. But not all lenses need adding shims. My brand new Leica APO ASPH 90mm was having too thick shims, I called Leica Germany, they asked me to send it back. My local Leica repairman ask me to check if the shims thickness is wrong, then I removed one of the 4 shims, the lens is back to normal focus. Some focus shift are not the problem of shims, may be the RF coupling issue. Make sure you know the mechanism of the lens before you proceed. Have fun.

Really Cool vid; as u say it does make the Leica system much more affordable … Is there a 50m lens for the M mount that you would recommend that has modest dimensions, a modest price yet still sharp ? (Nice pics, by the way …)

Have you ever used a 90mm elmarit? I have one of these but don’t feel like it’s different enough than my 50mm lens in focal length, so I’ve been thinking about selling it for a 90 and the elmarit is only a few hundred more than what these go for.

great review, I gotta say that I love those Voigtlander lenses! I have the 35mm f2 Ultron ii, and the 50mm f2 APO-Lnathar on my M10-R and very happy with both. On a side note when using your M10s during your weddings, what do you do if it starts to rain ? Obviously if it's a hard downpour you stop shooting and go inside, but what if it's a light rain, do you worry about your Leica(s) getting wet ?

Nice review. For anyone thinking of buying one I love mine because it’s 3 lenses in one. At f1.5 it is still sharp in the centre, but is lower in contrast and can give images a dreamy vintage look (without loosing detail). F2 is different again, a massive bump in contrast, very sharp, lovely bokeh, so great subject isolation. At 5.6 to f8 clinical and modern, sharp and faultless, but with great sunstars. A neat trick with it is to shoot at f1.5 or f2 and isolate a person on a beach at 100 feet away, it is not set at 100 feet and you will have infinity focus.

I currently have two Voigtländer VM Nokton lenses: 35 mm f/1.2 v1 and the 75 mm f/1.5. The former is a bit soft (which is its character) and a good alternative to my Leica Summilux-M 35 mm f/1.4 FLE I and the latter is much lighter and more compact than my Leica Noctilux-M 75 mm f/1.25 (I won’t sell these Leica lenses).
@j5daniel182
@j5daniel182 Год назад
I do find it a bit harder to shoot full body. The focus throw is optimized towards more close up portraits. More of a user error than a fault in the lens .

Hi Benj, this review is perfect timing for me ….so I’ve been debating getting this lens VS the TT artisan 90mm F1.25. I have the 7artisans 75mm f1.25 and I do like it I don’t love it. It’s so soft wide open I find it difficult to focus even at F2.0 which defeats the purpose of having the wide aperture. I use it now primarily for dreamy fine art nature shots and it’s great for that as I have the time and patience to focus wide open. Anyhow ….your thoughts on the TT artisans 90mm vs the Voightlander 75 F1.5. I watched your TT artisans review so I’m really curious as you have had time with both lenses. What are your thoughts comparing them
@benjhaisch
@benjhaisch Год назад
Yeah it’s a hard one. 75mm really is close to 50mm in a way. The 90/1.25 is really impressive but it’s also ENORMOUS and I really only use it for ceremonies and speeches and even then, I’ll often adapt it over to my Sony now. The 75/1.5 feels much more at home on the Leica system where the 90 feels like a mirrorless lens that they somehow adapted to M haha
@marcusoutdoors4999
@marcusoutdoors4999 Год назад
Buy the 75, I think you’ll be delighted. Sharp yet dreamy lower contrast at f1.5, massively crisper and higher contrast at f2… very easy to focus with a rangefinder or EVF. I’ve had mine for about 18 months and I love it. At 350 grams it’s also fairly light and the filters fit the Ultron 21mm f1.8 as well… another favourite lens

Hi Benj, Not to be unkind, however, this lens appears that it would work on a half frame camera. The reason is that it appears that you can only see half the subject (frame) through the viewfinder. It looks very very big! If so how does one deal with that or is it, as said, just the appearance on the video. I happen to be a fan of the 75mm lens e.g., a small 50mm on a 1.5 crop sensor camera. I use a Zeiss 50mm f1.5 on my Leica T ( I am looking to buy a tl2 at the right price?) I enjoy your channel very much.
@benjhaisch
@benjhaisch Год назад
it only takes up a small portion of the 75mm part of the frame in the viewfinder
