I’d love to see a video about atomic swaps. How they work, our options atm, and how we can reduce friction in xmr transactions while reducing our reliance on centralized exchanges.

They work using Smart Contracts - but only on chains that have them. Usually people just trade tokens that are based on a smart contract platform (for example Ethereum). Trading any other Crypto this way is complicated and comes with a lot of drawbacks. People basically have to create tokens on the ETH blockchain that represent another cryptocurrency and can be exchanged for it. What you actually trade are ERC-20 tokens on the ETH blockchain, which are completely publicly visible and everything. For example you could trade USDT for WBTC, which represent 1. USD held by a private company, and 2. a Token that represents BTC managed by a program, also not decentralized.

I personally think infinite (but controlled) supply is better for a currency as it's not inflationary like bitcoin & people will be more likely to spend rather than hold forever. Also then there are always mining rewards which allows for lower fees thus making it more attractive for regular people. I'm still blown away by how cheap Monero is for transfers.

Without a tail emission, the chances of the currency becoming deflationary are extremely high. And the ring size issue will likely be fixed by monero at some point. Monero is superior as a currency. Wownero is superior as a meme.

Personally i think monero having a tail emission forever is a good thing. It prevents fees from increasing to "fuck you" levels and also discourages hoarding of coins as the value slowly but steadily decreases over time. It's a way to encourage usage as money rather than hoarding. A coin isn't very private if only a handful of people regularly transact it and most is held in cold storage. As for scalability problems all major coins have them to a certain extent. But they can be addressed with a fork without too much internal disagreement. A change in the tail emission would be far harder to get consensus on. Even real "hard" money always has a tail emission. You don't "run out" of gold & silver. It just becomes unprofitable to mine. But if the price goes up then mines open back up.

Great breakdown, love your honest perspective on privacy coins. I'm wondering if you've ever looked into Particl (PART)? Similar to Monero, it offers untraceable transactions, but with the bonus of a decentralized marketplace. It's quite underrated, down almost 99% from ATH and with a successful marketplace and DEX launch. Curious about your take on it, especially with its unique coldstaking feature. On the trailing supply of monero. Because it is a fix amount every year, the year by year inflation will be less and less. Unless some whale loses his wallet then inflation will be a higher percentage. This stops it from deflating and inflating. Btc in the other hand has a limited supply and over time it will run to 0.

lol I watched your video on why most people don't own bitcoin (directly), you're gonna hate me lol, almost all my crypto holdings are though a stock exchange. Now I only do this cause the returns mimic crypto & I'm Canadian so I can hold them in my TFSA (tax free savings account) meaning I legally don't have to pay any taxes until I max out my available contributions which wont be for a while. So I feel like just getting some exposure is still good, also the ETF's do have insurance however like you said there is no way the insurance company would be able to cover the losses on that should it be hacked or more likely stolen as it's in cold storage. idk if your Canadian I think it makes more sense to buy through the stock exchange because if you really believe crypto will have massive returns, don't you want those huge returns to be tax free?

Wownero has no place in the current market and only serves to distract from Monero. The whole reason people hate Dogecoin is because it has no use outside of being a meme newcomers invest in, and this has a low chance of working with this coin. The two reasons laid out in this video to promote this alternative are the absence of tail emissions and the ring size, both of which aren’t any concern. Tail emissions serves as an incentive for miners to keep mining while also having a predictable inflation rate. This also serves as a way to get people to actually use their currency instead of holding their chunk on the blockchain. The ring size isn’t an issue as well because if I remember correctly Monero should be getting an update pretty soon that allows for bigger ring sizes. If it isn’t broke don’t fix it.

Noob question here, does it make any difference if I buy Monero on a (centralized) exchange like Kraken instead of mining it? Or is there any way to get Monero without KYC or mining (which I guess would be quite slow and inefficient without the right hardware)? Maybe DEFI or swapping other cryptos?

It doesn't matter where you buy your monero as long as you move it to a non-custodial wallet, but exchanges can see you buying it. If you wanna buy monero without kyc you can trade cash for monero from anyone who already has monero

sorry i know i keep posting updates on unrelated videos, but after a couple hours of troubleshooting i now have manjaro installed on an m.2 ssd! i now have 2 1tb hard drives in my laptop, one for windows and one for linux. so far i haven't given up on windows just yet just because i have a bunch of games i play on there, but once i figure out how to play them on linux ill probably drop windows entirely

If you want Monero to be used as money it has to have an expanding supply ( like gold being mined). It is mathematically more scarce than Gold which has a supply nearly 1:1 with world population growth. The key is that the economy has room to grow if there are an increasing supply with it. Its inherently deflationary with a capped supply so it cannot be mapped as a beneficial currency (cannot have a bond market or lend/borrowing of a currency that grows in value). I understand that BitFucks who don't know how anything works Will like the capped supply and I do like Wownero, some memes are friggin hilarious. But for legitimate usage, its XMR imo. DERO may be dangerous too man that thing is FAST

There's a limit for many blockchain protocols on the rate individual transactions may be processed. Blocks processed at a certain rate, and a limit on block size.

What are the REAL chances Monero will one day be "defeated" and traceable? Are there any examples of someone selling actual material goods or services that accepts Monero? I guess what I want to know is if there are people using Monero as it was meant to be used and not being treated as a stock like other cryptos.

Monero is the primary currency used on darket marketplaces and that alone makes up over 1 billion USD annually in transactions. There's also hundreds of legal websites on the clear net that allow you to use Monero amongst other altcoins for transactions just like you would use pay pal.

@@MentalOutlaw Not completely, currently only one is Monero exclusive, the second largest one has just added Monero support, and currently, the longest running US marketplace is still using bitcoin and Litecoin, but still most are majority Bitcoin based. And the Russian markets are still Bitcoin based for the most part.

Wouldn't not banning it work in their favour? I mean if you let it onto coinbase you'll have a giant laundry list of metadata of known data points ready in the case it does get cracked/becomes somewhat traceable, probably like correlation attacks on mix networks (if that's even possible). IMO it's banned because they KNOW it can't be traced with current tools and have no hope of doing so for the foreseeable future (quantum maybe?) , although that's kind of a 1 dimensional perspective.
