Thanks for sharing! It finally support in Pro Tools after I switch to Reaper hahahha.......One question: Why Pan mode is up to right and down to left? It is opposite to the automation line in most DAW. But anyway, looking foward to the fader!
Historically, I don’t know why it is set that way. One thing I like about Fader and pan in Pro Tools is that in Console 1 mode, writing automation of stereo tracks is super easy!
One question remains: Does this mean that when you select a track in Pro Tools, it will select that track on the console 1? (Even if you dont have the console 1 fader) I reeeaaallly need this in order to use my console 1 consistently with Pro Tools.
In HUI? No. Maybe something else in the future? The reason I say no is that groups of 8 tracks is a limitation of HUI control. This is similar to the same way EUCON controllers work. However, this is what I love about this product compared to a EUCON controller. We have the ability to flip into Console 1 mode to have the 10 track control when it is needed for mix tasks. So you get the best of both worlds. Pro Tools DAW control, but with the flexibility and speed of a modern 10 fader workflow when it is needed.
@@ToddUrban thanks for the reply. I ordered 4 of them the creat a full console. What about a transport / master section? I wonder if they will introduce one?
I dont see how this is the “best” controller for Pro Tools. HUI cannot touch Eucon, an Avid dock and S1 will enable much tighter integration without so much parameter switching. For any other DAW perhaps it could have tight integration, but HUI within Pro Tools is decades old at this point and frankly just places this unit in the same bucket as countless other controllers that cannot integrate with PT via Eucon (Avid’s doing of course). I don’t see how you can tout this as the best controller for Pro Tools as a Pro Tools user. Maybe the best non Eucon controller for PT? Would be a matter of opinion of course. Nice walkthrough though.
I appreciate your comment and asking about this. Eucon has the most direct control due to the continued support by Avid of the Euphonix control protocol. However, it keeps you locked within one mode. The flexibility of having two different modes to me is a huge advantage since it opens up a lot of additional options that Eucon doesn’t offer since it is basically just a DAW controller. Plus the stability of these two modes is rock solid. But that’s also my opinion. I realize this isn’t an objective statement.
These 2 units (fader and console) are killer together, no doubt. But so would the SSL UC1 and UF8. If you opt to spend more cash you can add the UF1 with dedicated transport, toggle and assignable fader. All in is $2700 new however. SSL also has the 360 integration software which pushes this further for “total” control. The Avid dock and S1 can carry an inexpensive tablet each and allow for much more customization and hands on control. No need to switch modes back and forth which to my feable mind feels like switching off one side of my brain and fumbling around to turn on the other. Avid purposefully keeps Eucon to themselves unfortunately. The only other DAW that I have heard of that integrates nicely with this protocol is Logic. For any other DAW I think there is a wide array of excellent options. For PT however, Eucon dedicated surface is hard to beat. BTW I have seen S3’s going for $3k new in box, and as low as $1500 used in excellent condition.
As of now, you have 8 of the 10 faders available in HUI. However in Console 1 mode, you have all 10 available for working in that workflow or mixing with plugins from Channel.
a lot better than in the past but compared to other DAWS, Avid really needs to open up PT to softube in a real way... as always Avid rests on their name instead of trying to be as competitive as possible.
I agree that I’d love to see a 10 fader style control in PT like there is in Logic and Cubase. But not even EUCON supports a workflow like that. So for now, this is still the best of both worlds.
@@ToddUrban yeah i’m not sure how they’ve done it with Cubase/Logic/Studio One/Reaper and now even Luna… i’m not sure whether it’s due to collaboration with those companies, or something softube is able to use in their coding, but PT having the same easy plug and play integration would be massive I think for both Avid and Softube.
Your Console 1 Channel will still work perfectly. As for Fader, there have been many improvements, but if you want to control DAW faders, that is going to need HUI, which requires the new Fader Mk III unit to get it up and running. HUI integration is a hardware required feature for two reasons. The first is that the new units have a powerful internal processor and a MIDI jack that can communicate with HUI and 8 faders, while the older units were dedicated to communication to the OSD. But the second reason is that the screens are necessary to locate where you are and what you are controlling.(EDITED ON Sept 19 2024 for clarity)
@@ToddUrban thanks for responding, I like the Console 1 system. I’ll probably upgrade to the newer version at some point…. What are people doing with there old gear ? I hope softube offers to but back mk2 towards mk3 again… can’t reuse the stand either… oh well this is certainly an expensive hobby for me…
@@Nobox-eg7qudepending on your location, there are some limited time upgrade trade-in paths I’ve seen. But I’m also keeping my old units. They still work and are more portable. So they will become my travel units in the meantime.
No it sure ain't! With the sole exception of the Taptic Faders feature, any EUCON powered control surface outperforms it by miles. t's no better than any other MCU/HUI powered surface! How much are Softube paying you to simp for them?
Actually, this is my personal channel and I almost never put Softube related content on here. You didn’t see me mention this on the previous fader unit. ;) But this new one is a different story. Have you tried it yet compared to an S1/S3/Artist Mix? Just curious since I have. To me the ability to work in both modes is essential. You have a ton more flexibility than you do with Eucon., as well as stability in terms of connectivity. Though I will agree that off the bat, Eucon will have deeper integration due to the Euphonix protocol that is implemented by Avid. But being able to control deep parameters such as 3rd party plugins with the speed you can with C1 Mixing System is not something Eucon can touch. Also being able to move as quickly through track counts in banks of 10, rather than in 8s is essential when I have sessions of over 100 tracks.
@@ToddUrban So, this is your personal channel? What gives you the illusion that that means that you can spread lies and missinformation uncontested? You claim that the Softube Fader is THE BEST Pro Tools Controller. This is a bold claim that is, objectively, untrue (i.e. false). There is nothing that a Softube controller can do, that any other MCU/HUI powered controllers can't do. At the same time, there are lots of things that any EUCON powered controller can do, that no MCU/HUI powered controller can't. The Softube controller is thus not the best, it's average at best! People watching your channel should know that you're spreading false BS!
