And he can get rid if it quickly. NFL teams might shy away from MPJ because of injury history but if he gets drafted by a team with a strong Oline he will find serious success.
I’ve got season tickets Odunze, Polk, McMillan, are all great receivers who win one on ones against CBs, but Penix throws a very accurate ball that lands exactly where it needs to. The receivers can depend on the ball location.
Exactly, dual threat is fine... we've had slick dual threats going back to guys like Steve young, kordell Stewart etc.... but QB's need to go through progressions
A Washington fan since 1980. Give credit to his offensive line. The test is a good defensive line to see how he handles pressure. He looks good with time.
line has really stepped up but he's got a quick release and in a lot of these passes he's one or two beats from getting hit, as he was in last year's oregon game, a split second before delivering a 50 yard score.
@@Small_dub Yep, there's literally multiple in this one highlight reel. This guy trying to sound like he actually watched "every throw here". But yeah, this opinion just tells me the guy hasn't watched any full games with Penix.
jonathan2333, if you want to use that argument, then how about all those Alabama QB's who not only had loads of time behind gigantic offensive lines, but their wide receivers were wide open with no defensive backs within 10 feet of them? Go back and look at videos of how untouched and wide open easy throws Mac Jones, AJ McCarron, Bryce Young, and Tua had.
@@SO-jp6gh I have and as a patriots fan looking at QBs now that’s why I’m concerned. I think this kid is super talented I just don’t want to be bamboozled again like what we’re going through now lol
@@JKJK-lw8rm To an extent. He's not like other lefty QBs I've seen. He's got a stronger arm and more mobility than Tua, but not to the level of Vick either. He's closer to Steve McNair. He's not an identical comp with him either though. Imo it's 1. Caleb 2. Maye and then Penix, McCarthy, and Sanders are fighting for 3rd spot. Looks like an excellent class
Who was it said that the perfectly executed offensive play cannot be defended. What with the crazy accuracy he has and the speed and sure hands of his receivers, some of these plays are as close to perfect as possible.
they say over there soccer is a beautiful game but they got nothing to compare with the artistry between this Michael Penix and his receivers... I don't see any pros who can throw this long and accurately. His coach says he's never seen anyone with his downfield vision and that he can throw dimes at 75 yards and even longer! I'm praying we get to see him in the national championships.
If Penix and two of his receivers stay healthy UW is going to have a great shot at the distance. That kid is putting on a show and is also putting Odunze in the 1st round. UW does have a load of talent and KD is going to have a chance to take his system to continued success
People like to say that a huge part of his success is his great receivers, and they certainly play a role. But he's really good and he'd be even better with true elite receivers on the vikings.
He is a great pocket passer, whatever team draft him must have a good online. In the nfl most o lines will not give him time to throw like he have in college.
He's got a great arm and gets the ball exactly where it needs to be. An amazing deep ball. But damn, there were some really great catches by the receivers. Not saying it's all them instead of Penix. Just that the combo of a great QB and great receivers is so much fun to watch. He can drop the ball places that he wouldn't want to if the receiver was mediocre. The line seems to be doing a great job, too. It'd be nice to see how well he does under more pressure. I haven't seen much of his ability to scramble because it wasn't necessary. He did a great job recovering from the bad snap and quickly making a great throw, though, so he seems really sharp. Dude should have a great career.
And people saying he's too old as a 24 yr old rookie are off. That's still young for a QB. They tend to peak 30ish. He's likely got less bust potential too staying in school longer
Out of curiosity, why did you have no idea? He was just as good last year when they went 11-2 and beat Texas in their bowl game. And all of the sports journalists have been talking about him all season long.
Well it's about time the media caught up with me. I've been saying he was and is the best Quarterback. Since November 12 2022 after he lead the Dawgs to victory the first time over the Ducks. He should be going for back to back Heismans not that other guy.
I hope my Bears draft him. I think he is the best QB in this year’s draft by far! He is the most NFL ready QB. I think all the rest of them will need to sit and learn a year or two.
I meaaaan....ugh... aside from 1 clip of decent pocket presence... he's got all damn day to throw the ball. solid O-line or bad pass rush idk but its hard to feel what he will do in the league under pressure.
Great video. Too bad the "Heisman" can only be given to a single person. I feel that Penix , Polk , Odunze , Williams and McMillan as a ( Group ) - because Everyone depends on each other. If it wasn't Penix's great ability to play the quarterback position as well as possible l. But for Penix to achieve his greatness , he needs other's to allow him to do it. So maybe it's time for a new award for a Group of players that achieve great play together.
He's got the arm, he's got the accuracy and he's not looking to run all the time but he can run. BUT! That offensive line is too good to see what he's going to do at the next level. That's not a knock on him at all. He'll get drafted to a bad NFL team and wont get the protection he's had in college. We need to see what he can do under constant pressure and how he reacts when he's been knocked around for the first two quarters. I'm guessing he's going to one of five teams. Raiders, Bucs, Pats, Giants or Jets. Possibly the Commanders but Howell doesn't look bad. With another year or two if Howell cuts back on the INTs and Washington get's some real WRs he's a franchise QB.
Don’t see anything special to be honest. Super clean pocket and best WR core in the nation will make mediocre qbs look good. His delivery is super slow and his deep ball floats forever it seems like. I’m curious to see how he fairs at the next level where the pocket isn’t so clean and dbs are much better
Would love to see this guy on the giants but his college offensive line is better than the giants current line. We need a QB and takes his shots downfield and that’s what we need.
Every throw is at least 4 seconds before he lets it go. These young QBs are always holding on to the ball searching for the Big Play, i e. the Mahommes effect. Sadly i dont see Mahommes winning any more championships
Hes a southpaw Lamar Jackson. Looks more developed, definitely more accurate and better pocket passer than Lamar was coming out of Louisville. If you remember correctly Lamar was more of a runner when he came out
😢...If he goes to the Steelers, Who is he going to throw it to ? Oh they'll grab a couple of rookie receivers and develop them for three or four years.
His throwing is better than Williams' but doesn't quite have the all round athleticism of Williams. Could see him go to the Bears in place of Fields - can see him launching to DJ Moore, but he'd struggle at the Patriots as they have no good WRs right now.
Pretty sure JJ McCarthy is a better QB. Sure, Penix has higher numbers, but he also has to play 4th quarters to win games. This is why QBR is relevant.
@@jontaryn4816 You should probably do some film study before running your mouth. McCarthy rarely hits a wide open first read. When he does, he nails it. Most of his stats come from scrambling throws, and this is why QBR is important. Penix is equivalent to Graham Harrell: chuck it down the field and pray.
@@jakabokbotch99 you didn’t have to be a condescending prick about it. I watch film study. McCarthy is a good talent, but unlike the great QBs, he is not able to elevate the players around him. Penix is able to throw receivers open. Manipulate DBs, and read defenses. His capability to understand the game is near Aaron Rodgers-levels. He looked incredible against the great Oregon defense and stands poised under any pressure. You seem to be greatly inflating the value of QBR. It’s an okay measurement for some players, but it places high value on running QBs and has no relation to playoff success or nfl success. Yeah, burrow had great QBR, but so did Mac Jones, Justin Fields, and Baker Mayfield. Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, and Lamar Jackson all had worse QBRs than Penix the years they were drafted. Maybe instead of looking at ESPN stats and yelling “film study!” in a comment section you should just watch the goddamn game. Analytics don’t work in football, that’s why you have late round hits every single year
@@jontaryn4816 LOL I love your victim mentality. You ramble, attempting to sound intelligent; however, you said, "I watch film study". I didn't bother reading anything after such a poorly written sentence. No point in wasting my time with illiterate people.
@@jakabokbotch99 hah, excuse me for not proofreading my RU-vid comment, professor. Here’s a little tip: nobody secure in their intelligence grandstands in the comment section of a college highlight reel. As Jean-Paul Sartre said in his premier lecture Existentialism is a Humanism: “Don’t be a cock, asshole”
TBH as a Washington fan I don't think that penix is the best in college football nore do I even think he is super amazing. I mean he went less than 50% in that Oregon game and a lot of the completions he did make were some amazing catches by his receivers. I mean McCarthy and Bo Nix IMO are the two best by far. I mean Nix always makes the best decisions and McCarthy is just an insane talent
McCarthy is not ready for the pros. He's slow through his progressions, bad at managing his arm strength, and can't throw receivers open, unlike Penix. Watch his highlights. All of them are either wide-open throws or the receiver makes the play. Not to mention he has not looked good against ranked teams except for Ohio State last year.
@@jontaryn4816 McCarthy wasn't great last year but if you watch the games this year you will see that all of your things you said about him just don't apply. I mean he's really good at all of those things, especially his progressions
Nobody in college football did what Penix did. He’s the best QB in the draft. Talk about his knee or shoulders as much as you want. Let him drop to Seattle at 16 then get ready to see total domination of the NFL by Penix.
He might be the best QB in college but when he gets drafted in the NFL to a team that got no receivers or Offense line like he has now in college we will then see the big difference in his style of play
@@Chuida17 I'm a grown Man not some young 25 or 21 year old second I can careless how u feel or what u say I share my personal perspective regardless if u agree or not 💯
Nothing against the kid, but there’s no way the giants should draft him. We haven’t had oline play like this kid has had. We have traffic cones. He’s already torn his knee up twice, he should go and play somewhere that can actually provide him the time to throw he needs as a drop back passer.
