Following our deep dive into quartz watches from earlier this year, I wanted to do a list video where I take a look at some of the best quartz watches out there on the market. We'll go from the truly affordable range well into the (admittedly smaller) world of luxury quartz. What are some of your favorite quartz watches?

@@mankind8088 Why? People say this A LOT,Tag Heuer has a bad rep too. At Least give context behind your reasoning, I know Invicta doesn't always disclose what movement they have inside their watches,but they are built better than A LOT of these watches/SOME of these watches only had 40mm water resistance,which is a joke/200mm+/Solar and Atomic/ and a Sapphire display,is DEFINITELY a MUCH higher standard vs some stupid movement,when the watch will just break,I'm not saying Invicta make really durable watches,I'm just saying if you get them wet/submerge them,its not the end of the world/the watch will survive,I couldn't say that about some of these crappy and ugly watches,one example is that Cartier watch;The tiny female looking one/LOL I think it was 25.5mm,I mean what do you even do with that and it makes no sense from a marketing stand point LOL, it has Sapphire glass and its solar,but its only 40mm water resistant,that makes no sense ,it also looks terrible and it would DEFINITELY function terribly/the seconds hand isn't there,so its definitely not tactical/its just tiny junk,it has no features,other than the time and the Omega Speed Master doesn't make much sense either/it has a rugged LOOK and it has Sapphire glass,no solar,no Atomic and the worst and most laughable part is the 30mm water resistance, its a joke.
@mattmatt2417
@mattmatt2417 Год назад
Most of these watches are WAY OVER PRICED/A LOT of these watches are ugly AF as well,I also would NEVER buy a watch at these prices,unless they have 200mm+ water resistance,Solar,it would also need to be Atomic as well,durability is also something that NEEDS to be thought about as well, diver watches are the only analog watches I like anyway and I NEVER buy used crap/I NEVER buy anything used and I NEVER sell things either;So watches/nothing I buy are investments, in that regard;Although they are investments in the fact that I can rely on my watches/a single watch in my collection, COULD help me stay alive/do its job in practically any situation,also MOST of these watches in this list wouldn't hold up in these types of environments/situations and they definitely wouldn't hold up long enough to be passed down,they aren't built well enough, also you forgot about the Mudman,Rangeman,Frogman,ProTreks,Gshock squares/A LOT of Gshocks,the Rolex Submarina is a good watch though, it lacks a few features/a diver watch, with solar and Atomic,would be MUCH better,also if it was AT LEAST 43mm/more like 44mm plus,it would be better/I also like watches that are 47mm+,but 43mm/44mm,would be the smallest watch I would be willing to wear,I have watches that are 58.3mm/52.4mm/50mm,these are the biggest sized watches and smallest sized watches I have. I know A LOT of watch collectors care more about brands,the good/smarter watch collectors, HOPEFULLY care about a brand for a good reason,like the movement/look/functions and they aren't just buying junk,because it has a name on it,but for me, it NEEDS to meet A LOT of criterias/I'm not buying watches,just because of a name,some names have proven their selves,but I don't buy watches, JUST for the name,I also don't buy watches/anything else,just,because its trendy/I don't buy things to fit in,if its junk,I won't buy it.
@mattmatt2417
@mattmatt2417 Год назад
@@mankind8088 Honestly for these prices, every single watch made by these companies should MAYBE be made out of Titanium,even if its disguised titanium, meaning they can still keep the look their going for, but just add that durability, it should DEFINITELY have sapphire glass,it should DEFINITELY be 200mm+ water resistant,it should be solar and it should be atomic, no matter which watch it is,the value of these parts are DEFINITELY not worth the price tag anyway, your paying for a name and to be honest they should make ALL of their watches keep time to 1 second a year or just perfect it,even if Atomic is built in or if it uses a satellite of some kind, after all for these prices, their is no limit/for the price their charging NOTHING should be left out/left off,no excuses.
@mattmatt2417
@mattmatt2417 Год назад
@@mankind8088 These seem like some decent watches, they are lacking some features/solar/Atomic/MAYBE glass quality on SOME of them,but over all they seem decent, not perfect and SOME of them COULD be a little bigger/a few of them seem a little petite,but maybe they can be improved in the future/I guess Rome wasn't built in a day. I have just watched this video. Happy to see that some of my pieces have been mentioned in it. Recently I got in love with a Seiko Astron, a plain model. Not only because of the technology behind it. This Astron has absolutely fantastic dial, almost 3D appearance and the glass which is hardly noticeable. It looks as if there is no glass at all. For me Seiko Astron is definitely No 1 quartz watch. Generally, the very first thing I look at when buying a watch is the dial and its fell on my wrist. The type of movement is a secondary issue. However, if there are two versions mechanical and quartz, I prefer the mechanical option as an appreciation of the fine workmanship. Mr. Baldassarre thanks a lot for this video and many other.

Hi Ted, the 36mm Marathon Artic TSAR (WW 194027 quartz) is also an excellent choice to be considered. My Artic TSAR keeps time within less than 5 seconds a month, and the 300mm water resistance lets me where it anywhere all the time: shower, rain storms, washing the car etc.

Teddy, I love your videos. They are informative and insightful. I recently purchased a PRX based on your review, and it is exactly everything you said it is. It's an impeccable watch for it's price point, and it's certainly nice to see some Swiss companies realizing that there is a market for quartz watches outside the Wal-Mart/Target crowd. One thing I would love for you to "expose" is the whole "Quartz second hand misalignment" narrative that seems to be considered a "fair criticism" by many watch enthusiasts. As you know there are two things that primarily cause this. Backlash and slight misalignment of the movement in the case. Both of which MUST exist in any watch for proper operation of the gears and to allow for thermal expansion and contraction of the case, as well as shock protection for the movement. The only problem is that for a 1hz movement, this misalignment is easily detected, and is often quoted by watch enthusiasts as proof of a lack of quality, which is both intellectually dishonest, and smacks of snobbery. The sad fact is that both backlash and misalignment also exist in mechanical watches. But because a typical mechanical movement runs at 3hz or more, the distance moved by the second hand is 1/3 or less than that of a quartz watch. Therefore, it is not as apparent and is thus ignored. Certainly self correcting mechanisms can be built into a quartz movement that can minimize this, like the one in "The Citizen", but those mechanisms are very expensive, and not very practical for widespread use. Manufacturers could also use a stepper motor and second hand arrangement geared to operate at 4hz or more very easily (just like Bulova does with the Precisionist). Except, as you know, this causes a huge drain on battery power. Is a "smooth second hand" worth replacing a battery every 6 to 18 months? Neither solution is the magic bullet, for what is ultimately merely a cosmetic anomaly that does not affect timekeeping at all. Much in the same way that an indirect driven seconds hand on some mechanical movements is subject to stutters, but seemingly gets a pass from certain members of the watch community. Ironically, those members are the same ones who won't wear a quartz watch if the seconds hand doesn't line up precisely. Talk about hypocrisy.

I agree that the Lunar Pilot is too big but that's due to the movement. When I had to replace the battery in my LP I found the movement takes up the entire case opening, virtually no plastic spacer in there. The movement is a variant of the original Precisionist movement, the original Precisionist uses a 3V lithium cell but this watch uses a standard 1.5V silver oxide cell. This watch's second hand ticks 2 times a second to save power compared to the smooth sweep second hand of the original Precisionist. The battery lasted 4 yrs. in my Lunar Pilot. The LP looks big on my wrist too but I still love it. The dial in paricular punches WAY above it's selling price and the LP can be hand for pretty cheap.

@@astorbeijer9424 Both have decent quartz accuracy (seconds/month); the PSR has better water resistance (100m vs 30m). The Mondaine is cool to see in operation, but personally I'd get bored with that one trick after a while - and the seconds hand runs fast to accommodate the trick, so it's not the best timing tool. The PSR requires two hands to tell the time, and that might be an issue if you tend to be using your other hand a lot. I wouldn't want to wear it while cycling, for example. The looks are completely different, so you really should get the one that *you* want to spend time with on your wrist.

Sure they aren't high end but I've never seen anyone else wearing one when I'm out and about with my little Timex on. It's a fun way to get a little collection going for very little money. I really love how Cartier (oh, and Bulgari too) hide the seconds hand on their quartz models. They're fully aware of the "cheapness" of the tick in the modern day, and sidestep it completely to provide something that still looks and behaves like luxury despite being quartz.
@PBrown-mg4wy
@PBrown-mg4wy 2 года назад
Very true. That, to me, is the biggest problem with a quartz watch, the "tick". An automatics sweep is so much more satisfying. One reason I like my quartz Breitling Areospace. The Other, a Pilot / Field Watch with a "spiral like" Coin Edge Bezel (model 96 B 230) I too found that both perform better than Spec. I know that many would think that a mechanical movement would have been better and it may be (I would have loved a revision of the Citizen 8110A), but the choice of this movement reduces costs and makes it a closer product to all pockets.
