As great as he is, he was on top of the world like no other Gear character with an even greater future, then the locust came and robbed it from him, but he did not go into denial, he signed up took it upon himself to remain the cheery Cole for others and to keep himself in check he wrote letters to his dead parents.

@@dfed324 The books/comics show that at some point. Apparently, it's common practice for gears to do that even when their parents are dead. I think it's kind of like akin to a diary, just getting your thoughts on paper and helping to process it.
