I like using 2 pumps for redundancy and ease of maintenance, but if you don't use a check valve on each and one fails, most of the flow will come out the inlet of the failed pump due to head pressure. I have also had great luck with this line of equipment.

Great to see a youtuber keeping it real in a hobby where most reefers like to show off expensive equipment rather than a tank filled with healthy corals. It wasn’t too long ago when you would be ostracised for using jebao/ jecod.

I'm plan to try two pumps for my next build. I intend to use two separate return lines, each up and over. I like my returns up and over. It can be a pain to get them aligned straight up and down initially, but once done it's done and they look just fine. Where the return comes back down into the water I don't submerge mine. I put them just at the water level. With surface tension they make no noise nor bubbles and the siphon breaks the second you stop the pump. No valves on the lines. It's super safe and has always worked great with one pump. Seems like a perfect two pump configuration too.

Thanks for this video. My Vectra S1 just failed after little over 3 years. The repair cost is only 30 EUR less than new S2 with 2 years warranty...! So glad to hear these Jebao are actually maybe even better. I will still use my Vortech on battery back up at least... that's the only thing I might be missing... no back up on my return pump. But I hope the Vortech would be enough in case of power failure.

Used to have a dcw return pump on a freshwater tank was cobbled into the return pipe from an fx6 when the fluval pump failed never missed a beat and was whisper quiet unlike the fluval. Did manage to snap the hose barb fitting in half though so used one of the others you get in the box to keep it going. 5 years and only failure was down to my clumsiness.

Great Straightforward install of two pumps. If one likes to add monitoring, ease of failover, and ease of maintenance, you should consider adding checking valves and ball values on each pump, before connecting them. And if you want to be even more fancy you can add a flow meter after they are combined. If you are using remotely connected DC pumps and your system detects one of the pumps fails while on vacation (Via the flow monitoring), you can easily turn up the other pump when you get home for uninterrupted service (yes get pumps sized in a way you are running them each

Oh this is interesting! I have looked a lot into dual returns for redundancy and a lot of what I read online meant having 2 return lines or check valves as if one failed often the path of least resistance would be back down into the return chamber via the failed pump line, but with your "Y" set up when one is switched off you still get a decent return flow into the tank? Great video!

As a retailer I sold hundreds of Jecod/Jebao pumps, powerheads etc and in the end abandoned selling them because of the very high return rate. You do get what you pay for, generally speaking, although you can always find people that have bought expensive equipment and had it fail, and others that have bought cheap stuff and it lasted a long time. The several buckets of dead Jecod equipment I have around here doesn't speak highly of their reliability.

Jebao wavemakers 5 of different sizes - all died in 2.5years. gyres workd fien for 1.5 year but I upgraded them to Maxspecs xf350. Jebao return pumps DCP-10000 (80W 10000l/h)- 1 main return, 1 backup/waterchange (from basement barrel to 1 floor above). After 2.5 years ...main pump itself works fine but while cleaning it I noticed that impeller has developed a fracture from the shaft hole to almost 1/2 for the way to the impellers edge. Also I think I put one end of power cable into salt water and it rusted a little so now the connector definitely gets hot... |As i was going on vacation i decided it was excellent time to exchange the main pump with the backup. 2.5 years so far. 1.5 perfectly usable pumps for 240 eur . I'm FINE with that. Did I mention its totally quiet?

AC pumps always hum, inherently, around 50-60Hz, I have tried around a dozen different Sicce, Eheim, Hydor, AquaEl, but never had any that does not hum at all. If you want to go silent, go for DC, I learned it too late. Jebao/Jecod is dead silent, especially the sine wave ones. Also if you check/tweak the fittings they can be used externally as well for example on a canister. I have a DCP 2500, makes less noise than a 250 AC pump. According to different forums, the weak link of Jebaos is the controller, it is what usually fails, not the pump, but the newer ones are reliable, so if you buy a Jebao, check when the controller is made, if it is recent, it is decent. Rule of thumb is always oversize the pump, then you can go down with the speed (and not by constricting the flow like in AC pumps) and they will last an eternity., However mine was way oversized for my nano (but could go down to 30%!) so I'm experimenting with the new TMC nano pumps (500 and a 250 for my pico), so far so good. Dead silent as well. I love how TMC gives attention to the nano things.

Just returned my jebao dcw 2500. It was a great pump, zero noise. However, there were two issues: 1. The flow was inconsistent. At a given power setting, it would stay at a constant gph for an hour, then ramp down, causing my overflow level to drop and siphon air into the sump. Was very loud when that occurred. 2. Sparks came out of the controller input when you plug into the power cord. Normal with jebao but I wouldn’t trust it.
@plaidjoker1321
@plaidjoker1321 2 года назад
lmao if sparking are coming out of the socket when you plug it in, just return it. literally anything that does. Think most people would be surprised what the actual real figure output off a pump is on their tank , not just believing on what it says on the box , then add pipe size , bends into the equation and flow can slow even more . I was very shocked when I fitted my apex flow meters to see how little the pumps could actually pump out .

Turnaround time took 2 weeks! As I stated, they don't care and they should at that price point. Thankfully I didn't wait that amount of time before grabbing my salt mixing pump rated around 1,350 gph. I told Ecotech that I made a mistake going for a Ferrari when I should have opted for the Toyota. Having a pump that is dependable should have been my goal but I really thought Ecotech was. Fun fact .... Hygger pumps are identical to the Vectra but half the cost.

I I’ll have a refugium and an oversized protein skimmer. Can you please tell me what will be the best third tang for the 120 gallon tank? I will have an oversized refugium and protein skimmer and also feed heavily in the tank. Thanks! Please let me know.

Great video 👍 I have the 10000lph one and it's been great. Very quiet. Need to do a 6 month review on mine soon to be honest. You can adjust the feed timer in the app as well so if you need for instance 25 mins or longer for a water change then you can do it. Doesn't have to be 10 mins 😁

If you want a pump to last get a AC pump like iwaki or panworld. Built like tanks run 10+ years zero maintenance. I have them 20 years. DC pumps all the range but they are built like plastic toys in comparison and they have no head no power. Any sort of head will take the flow from 400 gph to 20 gph. 3 return pumps in 3 years means you are buying junk.

@@ReefDork I really like how they are setup to work with battery backups. And the quality and customer service from ecotech is unmatched. The shops that all LFS stores hate 😁. Ask any LFS and they are guaranteed to have a horror story about Jebao, to make sure that you buy a non eBay pump.About a third of the price of an equivalent Vectra. Will they Jebaos fail? Absolutely with time but in my opinion no more than other brand names pumps
