I appreciate everyone's concern about my metal hose clamps, I assure you the corals are in no danger - even though I replaced them with titanium I think I'll replace them altogether so you guys don't have to worry.
Rest in peace Jake..... I was concerned on my new aquarium return pump speed. This video answered everything I needed to know. You will be greatly missed. 😢
Jake, thank you for teaching us and making our job so much easier. I thrive with knowledge and you feed us a lot of valuable knowledge. Thank you for everything you do
You brought up an excellent point with regards to having only 3 times turnover flow rate for your return pump since you'll need powerhead pumps anyway to help circulate the tank properly. With proper circulation, detritus will be stirred up onto the water column and taken down into the sump, so it defeats the purpose of having a return pump with a flow rate higher than 3 or 4 times.
Trying to figure out what size return pump i needed a few months ago was actually really hard. I think I bough correctly, (comes tomorrow) Maxspect Jump 6k for my waterbox marine x 90.3 If not i'll upgrade in the future. Great video with lots of tips and help. Just wish it came out sooner. Cheers
I think as long as you have enough wavemakers and powerheads in the aquarium then you can most definitely dial back and tune your return pump to perform better.
ur great white return pump has a metal hose clap thats in the water, my question is.... wouldnt the metal give off and corrode into the water? i was figuring you would use a plastic hose clamp or plastic zip tie. with those 3 option would you preferred. and that ph hack you thought of is badass nice work
It seems like the more water you put through a system the faster it removes nitrates and phosphates leading to bottoming out issues. The lower turnover system would provide a higher dwell time in the system for the corals to absorb nutrients.
Jake you should do a video on bare bottom tanks and how to avoid bacteria blooms or the struggles when setting up a bare bottom with dry rock. Every time you make a new tank it seems like you don’t struggle at all especially with the Australian scoly dominated reef..
Jake my guy, I think you could have mentioned how the versa dosing pumps are basically impossible to get right now. It’s almost getting crazy how bad EcoTech is doing with product availability.
I always love the content, however I think the video title is misleading. It should have been something like “Reasons you should be using a DC pump”. From the title I was expecting some kind of hack on a new way to use my controllable pumps, but instead it’s was more bullet points of DC pump features. Again, not bad, just not what I expected.
