this has always been one of my favorite theories. i love the idea of rocks wanting to conquer the world, his son wanting to free it, and his grandson just wanting to be free

I could definitely see Dragon taking the monkey name to honor Luffys mom, maybe she got killed by some nobles and that’s what really started his war against the WG

the 3 of them being friends in the past actually makes sense and that's why roger and garp teamed up to stop xebec at god valley because they knew it's their responsibility to stop their friend.

Actually Garp stated that Dragon is his son, after the water 7 arc when garp attacked Luffy and the crew he said „how can the son of my son underestimate me“ .

It's definitely a compelling theory. Dragon would've been a teenager when Rocks died so I suppose Garp could've taken him in to try and steer him away from his father's path. Hopefully Oda will give us more details on Rocks soon.

Rocks' devil fruit possibly was the darkness fruit. Blackbeard knew it and recognize it as the strongest fruit to ever exist, the required power to become the strongest man in the world. That smile when he saw the fruit, it terrifies me everytime. Like he certainly sure the world is in the palm of his hand. Because the fruit negate the power of other fruit, Garp assambled a group of people that don't rely on their fruit power to fight. Hence he formed an alliance with Roger

I like to think this theory is also parallel with Luffy,Sabo and Ace childhood adventure. Garp,Xebec and Roger could potentially be childhood friends but then separate to achieve their own goals,like Sengoku mentioned about the god valley incident,the only one that knows the full story is none other than Garp himself.

Sounds like an incredible fun shonen trio. Now I want a Prequel about Garp, Rocks and Roger sailing the Grand Line. Maybe even hinting what drove them apart.

I do indeed believe that Rocks D Xebec is Luffy 's Grandfather but dew to other circumstances. I believe that During the God Valley incident where Garp and Roger defeated Rocks, that's where Garp found Rocks' son, Dragon. He decided (like Odin decided with Loki) to save the young boy and bring him into his family, where he did indeed meet with Luffy's mother and fell in love. This is what made Roger entrust his son to Garp. The fact that he saw that happening once before!

With all this Portugal X Brasil related theory, I was thinking about all "D." characters we know so far and it seems indeed there is a strong relation to Portugal and maybe Spain, wich were one of the pioneers in the great navigations and imperial expansion all over the world. -Monkey D. Luffy: ODA said himself he would be brazilian. -Portgas D. Ace: portgas looks a lot like Portugal and considering the fact he is luffy's brother and most brazilians descends from portuguese ancestors, that makes this bond between ace and luffy very symbolic. Roger also said to Garp that Rouge was somehow related to his family. -Trafalgar D. Law: there is this cape trafalgar in spain where it happened a War envolving France, england and spain. -Jaguar D. Saul: jaguar is the only big cat found in the Americas, mostly in Brazil and its name comes from the native americans by the way. Native americans whom were mostly colonized by Portugal and Spain. - rocks D. Xebecs: the video already explores his roque brasiliano relation. - the real blackbeard used Madeira (Portugal island) as one of his routes, he took wine from the islands and he had conflicts with spanish navy That could mean nothing, lol. But we all know Oda is crazy about navigation history and a fun fact is that Portugal was probabily the first european country to arrive in Japan. Cheers

I truly believe that rock's had the most fearsome conquerors haki of all time. He then most likely had super human strength and well the whole crew was broken af(big mom,kaido,Newgate etc) The dragon and rock's son and father connection isn't out of the possibilities. I find very intriguing and I would love for it to be true

I like to think Rocks was like a big brother to them…. He trained them but when rocks started to go crazy Rodger & Garp went on their respective routes…. So God Valley was about burying a evil they left unchecked in a way

I think it makes sense that Garp became a Marine given where he grew up. The only difference with Luffy is that he met Shanks, which is the real catalyst of him wanting to become a pirate, then meeting Ace and Sabo who both wanted to become pirates as well.

Any vague physical resemblance, especially for a character who has only appeared as a silhouette, is especially irrelevant in a series that has repeatedly changed designs after silhouettes were first shown of them and where physical resemblance is often more connected to will than bloodline. Good example being Nami looking very similar to Bellemere despite only being raised by her.

So basically, Roger, Garp, and Rocks are like a negative version of Luffy, Ace, and Sabo, in that rather than their bond strengthening with age and time, it actually breaks down and rots over time. If true that's a cool idea.

Full theory 💯 Sengoku talks about Rocks His name was brought up for the first time in the series by Sengoku when Brannew was revealing the bounties of the Four Emperors or Yonko. The information about the existence of a pirate so fierce shook the entire fanbase as they had assumed that Gol D. Roger was the most feared pirate in the world. According to Sengoku, Rocks' full name was Rocks D. Xebec. After reading his name, the first thing that comes to mind is that he also had the letter "D" in his name like other great pirates such as Gol D. Roger, Monkey D. Luffy, Marshall D. Teach, etc. Rocks was the captain of the infamous Rocks Pirates, a pirate group so nefarious that not even the crew members were safe. Rocks existed forty years before the current timeline, and he was considered to be the greatest threat to the authority of the World Government. Who Were The Rocks Pirates? Rocks Pirates from One Piece The Rocks Pirates were incredibly dangerous even to their own friends. this theory now has been proven wrong, Garp did acknowledges Dragon as his son when he talked to Kuzan. Stating his frustration for having a revolutionary son and a pirate grandson.

I'm fucking sure that Oda saw this video and thought "FUCK IT I'M GONNA MAKE GARP TALK ABOUT DRAGON AS HIS SON" and add the "DAAAAMN MY SON JUST BECAME THE N1 IN THE FUCKING REVOLUTIONARY ARMY" scene in the last chapter just to discredit one of the most beautiful and clever theory i've ever seen. It's so cool for Goa to get a shout out like this not from just U Ohara but from oda as well cause I am from Goa, and I never really thought about the Goa kingdom having any real connection to the real Goa until U brought that to light lol. It feels good knowing that some people know about Goa and it's existence and it's an honour.

This theory could also be that Dragon's mother is Garp's sister. And she married Rock. Then Dragon took his mother's last name, like Ace. Because we haven't seen anything that changes his last name to his wife's. And then Garp's anger is that Rock took his sister.

I could see them pulling an avatar the last airbender zuko twist where dragon mentions luffys grandpa and then says, “no…your other grandpa”

Maybe, he doesn't refer to Dragon as son because he betrayed his beliefs. He doesn't do that to Luffy just because he blames himself(or maybe Luffy is just a kid to him who chose the wrong side)

If Rocks was Luffy's grandfather, it would easily tie into the theory about Luffy's dream! My favorite theory in regards to his dream, is that Luffy's OVERALL dream is to be KING OF THE WORLD, and if the connection to Rocks is revealed to be true then that would make me view Rocks differently. Aso, I think wanting to be king of the world isn't a bad thing. Just look at some of the dreams Rocks' former crew members had. All of them come from a good place but are executed terribly. Similar to Rocks doing a terrible job at becoming the king of the world, Big Mom wanted a world with no discrimination, Whitebeard wanted a family but that family just so happened to be pirates, etc. I think Roger also had this dream but since Rocks was a contender to that dream, Roger sought an opportunity and decided to help during the God Valley incident.

I've been saying rocks and garp are both his grandpa's for years. I got laughed at for years for saying this. If true luffy grandfather's are Ying and yang. I believe that it's the opposite way that you think because garp is shown as good but technically evil because he does what the celestial dragons will. Then xebec is shown as evil for going against the celestial dragons but was actually good that's why garp hates the celestial dragons so much.

Been saying this for a while. This makes sense and interesting. Also Luffy is from the Monkey family and he has a lot of Monkey parallels. In chinese mythology the Monkey king Sun Wukong was born from a "Stone". Stone = rock interchangable. Then it makes sense🤔

When Luffy recovered Usopp in Water 7 and said they'll be seriously trying to escape now Garp said : " Impertinent punk, you're the son of my CHILD" while being held in place by Helmeppo. He could have easily said "son of my son". It was implied that he was talking about Dragon, but what if he wasn't? :D

Monkeys and Rocks also have significant connection in East Asian culture as the Monkey King Wukong from the Journey to the West classic was supposedly (re)born from a rock mountain, so that checks out too 👀

This actually makes too much sense garp and roger started their individual journeys around the same age but they aren’t the types to just sit around till they hit their 20s so I could see them going out to sea and getting away from their small island lives with rocks then going their own way garp being a marine and Roger meeting Rayleigh

Interesting, want to also point that the person who first sailed to Brasil from Portugal was called "Pedro Alvares Cabral". Bear in mind that the name Pedro is originated from "Pedra" which translates to "Rock" in English. Another curious fact is that Pedro discovered Brasil by getting lost when he was actually sent to travel to... Goa! Also, is end is not known and his name was erased for almost 300 hundred years after a discussion with the King at the time.

Part of Luffy's inspiration is sun wo kong and in the Journey to the weat wo kong is a MONKEY born from a ROCK egg... This makes so much sense!!!

Don't know if annyone else mentioned this but if we think about how Luffys abilities are inspired by Sun Wukongs from Journey to the west then it would be a fun little nod to Wukongs origins if Luffy is related to Rocks, a monkey (Luffy) born from Stone (Rocks). This is a really interesting theory. With how particular Oda Sensei is with his phrasing, Garp not calling Dragon his son definitely feels like it's hinting at something. Not to mention the silhouette of Rocks looks way to similar to my boy Rockstar.....I um-I mean Dragon. Not to mention Dragon doesn't really look that much like Garp, unlike Luffy who's the spiting image of his grandpa. Until Luffy goes gear 4. Then he looks remarkably similar to his father and even the silhouette of Rocks. Now Garp being a pirate similar to Luffy before becoming a marine makes alot of sense to me. And if Rocks is Luffy's grandpa too it could add a whole new reason as to why Garp is so against Luffy becoming a pirate. But if Garp joined laye because he was a pirate what about Sengoku? Didn't they join at roughly the same age? It'd be cool if like Coby he was saved from pirates by Garp and they then joined the Marines together. I could also get behind Garp, Roger, and Rocks being friends or even drinking from the sake cups and becoming brothers. It'd add so much weight to the God Valley flashback. I've literally said this in the comment section here, on BDA, KOL, and even tekking 101 channel that Garp neevr said dragon was his son, only that he was luffy's dad. Which gave the impression that Rocks could be Luffy's other Grandpa. Garp could be his grandpa on his mother's side. I've said this for a couple years now.

Rocks has the potential to be one of the best characters in the verse, I imagine him with the voice of all things, all 3 haki mastered and a devil fruit worthy of Imu to take for itself, also a mix of Good and evil so he could be carefree, not necessarily evil. but both could also work, If Rocks has been painted as a monster but was actually just misunderstood. a carefree person about freedom realises there is a ruler and the world has no freedom then his path to peace could have been to gain the strongest onthe seas, commit money making schemes and Turn the world upside down. this is all you need to attain true influence and power on the seas. Oda is showing us this through Cross guilds, history repeats itself. Each Era has a prominent figure that blasts thru the coverage of the WG Joyboy (Void century of Dusk) Nolan (Restricted Era/Controlled) Rocks (Era of Legend) Roger (Golden age) Whitebeard ( Era of Whitebeard) and Now Luffy (Era of the Dawn)

I feel like for this to be true there has to be some kind of foreshadowing/parallels between ASL and this new trio. Maybe one member from each trio parallels the other? What if we applied the the two sides to the same coin concept from Yuderon? Ace was like Roger as a kid and wanted to go on adventures and be free. I'm not sure how this two sides to the same coin concept would work here aside from the fact that one was the father and the other was the son. Sabo was like Garp since Sabo saw the injustices and prejudice of the nobles firsthand and wanted to make a difference in the world. Potentially, Garp saw similar things happening but it was pirates and not the nobles that were doing nasty things. Garp then went to the Marines to bring justice against the pirates (and anyone that would threaten the WG) and Sabo would then go to the Revolutionary Army to bring down the WG and the nobles (which could also mean the Marines in the same process). The two sides to the same coin concept here would be that both wanted to bring justice, however, they were on opposing sides. This then leaves Luffy somehow being like Rocks. The two sides to the same coin concept here, however, is that Rocks became pure evil and Luffy became pure good. There must be some kind of experience that Luffy had that Rocks had as well (similar to that of Sabo and Garp having similar experiences). The only difference is that Luffy went on to become good from that experience and Rocks went on to become evil.

This is a good theory. You can also use the first few likes on Rogers speech. Wealth, Fame & Power…each of those aligns with each personality. Garp may have wanted wealth, Roger wanted fame and Rocks would have wanted POWER. Who knows

i have a theory in my mind about dr hiluluk being rocks d xebec because he is once a pirate going through depression of losing his crew and giving up his dream and had the same disease as roger and that also explain how dr kureha know so much about will of D She may be his crew doctor.

The people with D in their middle name have a certain charisma that is impossible to ignore, no matter their good or evil ways across forbidden history. Whatever happens soon, Luffy & Blackbeard will rock the boat over the entire world and may have to battle Imu-sama before settling their score.

The bond between Rocks, Dragon, And Garp that Ohara talked about at the beginning reminds me of the bond between Ace, Sabo, and Luffy. Twins from a whole other generation.😳

This is a mind blowing crazy theory that is both interesting and entertaining to think about, but I have another idea. Ik this is a bit of a stretch but you know Outlook, Sabo's dad, what if Outlook was a son of Rocks like dragon just after being disappointed deeply in Outlook, Rocks somehow erased Outlook's memories and named him Outlook III just so nobody would get suspicious of Outlook's father. After all this would truly mean that ace Sabo and Luffy are relatives to roger rocks and Garp. Ik this is a bit of a stretch but it's fun to think about.

Or, maybe rock ate darkness fruit and he got consumed by it, maybe that's why Roger and garp decided to take rocks down cz he's their friend, maybe also that's why Roger and garp never ate a DF.

Absolutely loved the theory and video. Though, I hate to break it but during Post Enies Lobby when Straw Hats were escaping from Garp and Luffy said "NO", it's when Garp lost control said " Boku no Kodomo no Kodomo", literally means My Kid's kid, which does imply linear heritage between the Monkeys. But, again it could simply be Oda playing with us along the lines. Can't wait for Rocks to be introduced in the story!!

Garp does refer to dragon as his son btw. When luffy and the crew were escaping water 7 after they named the sunny, luffy deflects a canon ball from garp and tells him to give it up and that they are serious about escaping now. garp gets mad and yells him "you're just my kid's kid! " chapter 439

Something I have been thinking out is how I believe Blackbeard knew that Luffy was probably going to be Joyboy. I always think about his reaction when he was first named an emperor, "it's not your time yet". It's nothing new to believe that Blackbeard carries on rocks will, but is there maybe another historical figure that Blackbeard aims to be? I keep thinking why the joyboy reveal happened now and not at the end of the story. Just something that keeps running through my mind. Love your videos btw.

A great theory overall. Could change some of it though. Them 3 being friends could have encountered sumthin about the history and they had different opinions about it. Roger was more like an archeologist wanting to know by studying it. Rocks just want to destroy the world government and the celestial dragons. Definitely want to destroy them cause he assembled those monster pirates knowing/hinting how powerful the celestials might be. I dont know. and garp want to change the navy from within just like you said. A lot of possibilities still. have to wait for 2 more chapters since where in the God Valley flashback now in the manga. Welccommeee to the fffutttuurreeee. Garp has officially, as of 1087, referred to Dragon directly as son with the line "My damn son became a revolutionary!!" to Aokiji during the battleship bags training they used to do. I know that anyone and everyone is already aware, but just wanted to say it ;)

I like this a lot. Something I think strengthens the Garp portion of the theory even more is that he seemingly hates being called the hero of the marines moniker, or is at the very least indifferent to it, it brings him no sense of pride; what the marines view as his greatest moment, he views as his worst, and hates being given the constant reminder of taking down his best friend.

Another similarity on Coby and Garp (based on this theory) is that both started off as pirates.

Big fan btw...according to your theory i think it will take both luffy and coby to beat blackbeard, due to the way oda parallels his work. And since we are in the final saga, i think the fight is close since coby has already been taken by blackbeard. Which makes me think the final villain isn't blackbeard but IMU. If that wasn't obvious already. It will be cool to see the new generation garp and rodger vs rocks. And most probably the flashback to Gods valley will happen during this battle so that we may head to the final island. We may also find the last poneglyp in this arc.

Don't forget that Garp once said "You are my son's son" at the end of Water 7 when he was attacking luffy and his crew

Why did Roger ask garp to take care of his son and not one of his crewmates? His crewmates were all wanted members of one of the most infamous pirate gangs of all time. He figured is a lot less chance my son's going to die living with a navy man than with notorious pirates who are being hunted by the Navy and the fact that they fought together against an enemy bonding them in a way that most people aren't bonded it kind of trust and respect you earned from that

Imagine If Rocks D Xebec Gets Resurrected As The Final Villain In One Piece Just Like Madara Uchiha In Naruto Shippuden

Rox probably was the most important figure in his time, so there should be a lot of history connections to him

Maybe when 3 of them were pirates, Xebec accidentally ate the dark dark fruit which gave him the evil mind the same on what happened to blackbeard, when he ate the fruit all the evil desires of him was projected and showed (assuming both xebec and teach were really have evil motives inside and just hiding it until they ate the same fruit). Great theory ohara never fails to surprise us coby as garp,luffy a roger and bb and rocks would explain why bb kidnapped coby in recent chapters and bb may have considered coby as his friend for helping him out I can see oda repeating that system again

I think shanks realized who exactly luffy was when they first met and gave him the straw hat to help shape his destiny away from his fate. And shanks probably warned the 5 elder about who luffy is.

This video sparked an idea in me that now seems super obvious: Garp is the leader of sword. After you asked why would someone like him join the marines, this is one way to explain it. That's why he never held a major position (admiral, fleet admiral) within the marines, because he is already leading sword. Also Coby and Helmeppo being in sword after Garp taking them in kinda hints at it.

Haven't seen the video by now - but in my mind Garp adopted Dragon (the son of Rocks). He looks just like him and is probably super strong as well. Luffy inherited the will of Roger, while Blackbeard inherited the will of Rocks.

I think, there have to be a fourth member in the group of Monkey D. Garp, Rocks D. Xebec and Gold D. Roger and his/her death may be the reason of separation of the three friends also might be leading to the inheritance of the will of D. Rocks D. Xebec wanted to take revenge for the death of their friend (the 4th member of the group) made him violent and as the time passed by, Rocks get into the knowledge that world government was behind the death of their friend (the 4th member of the group) and the power that they possessed, so he wanted to have the strongest crew to defeat the world government at full power. He eradicated the cities in order to find the strongest among them, who has the strength and the will to fight against him and his injustice. Garp on the other hand, believed that being a pirate led to the death of their friend, and started his journey to become a marine. The 4th person of the group must be someone from the family of Joy Boy and actual heir of the will of D and the brother of Rocks D. Xebec. Rocks hid his son Dragon from the world because he wanted to protect him like Roger did for Ace. Garp, not knowing that Dragon is the son of Xebec married his daughter to him. Dragon and Garp's daughter lived peacefully in goa kingdom of east-blue which was raided by the pirates and marines did nothing to stop them, showing their incompetency. Xebec left the mythical Zoan fruit model Wind god with Dragon and told him to eat it if ever felt the need for protection. During the attack, when Dragon felt helpless, he ate the fruit in order to protect his family. However, as he was not known to the powers of the fruit, he wasn't able to protect his wife but somehow managed to protect Luffy after Garp came in for help. But seeing the incompetency of the Marines he questioned Garp "why the Marines didn't protect them?" Then, Garp tells him about the interventions from world government "as the world government got to know that he was the son of Xebec who was also the heir of will of D" and all the other unjust behaviors, listening to which he wanted to do something against this and take revenge from the world government for the death of his wife. He handed Luffy to Garp and asked him to take care of him for his sake and thus, begins the internal conflicts of Garp for whom to choose? Pirates or Marines. I guess due to this inner conflict he didn't gave all he had to stop Luffy from being a Pirate and let him be close to Shanks. He wanted to give Luffy a full opportunity to decide for himself which way does he want to go, but he was also afraid of what might happen if he chose to become a pirate and after he became a pirate and he confronted Garp at the beginning of the story where Garp left him off the hook because he saw the image of his sworn brother (friend) Gold D. Roger in him.

In the past, I once believed that Dragon's actually the son of Rocks D Xebec, which would not only be a potential reason why he wants to oppose the world nobles, but probably why he & Garp don't get along. And if this was true, I could even think that this connection could make Luffy the Zuko of the One Piece series since he too had 2 famous relatives. However, after reading chapter 1059, I have a different theory where Luffy's mom was actually the former ruler of Amazon Lily after Shakky, and before Hancock, which could pretty much give us a good explanation on why Luffy was sent there by Kuma (who knew his ties to Dragon before MF). But might slightly debunk this Rocks theory unless Oda has a way to fit that in with this former Kuja queen theory. Anyway, this is just my thoughts & opinions, I just wanted to know what you think?
