Testing 8 of my sanders and sharing my experiences using them on 3d prints over the past couple years. Hoping this can serve as a guide on what to look for in these types of tools, or where to start if you're new to prop making. These are useful for mid to large scale 3d prints. especially cosplay scale prints.

Here are the tools: (These are affiliate links!)
Proxxon 2" Angle Polisher amzn.to/4cjrwC6
The speed demon, this is my favorite
Ryobi PBLRT01 Flex Shaft Rotary Tool amzn.to/4a2OefN
Incredible rotary tool that I highly recommend
Milwaukee M12 Detail Sander amzn.to/4a5F9mh
This is a really good tool, especially for my kind of work, highly recommend
Proxxon Delta Sander amzn.to/4c9ZQ2w
This is a solid tool especially if you don't have a battery system or you want a very quiet tool
Makita LXT Random Orbital amzn.to/4cbwCQz
A great tool but hard to use on detailed prints
Proxxon Belt Sander amzn.to/4cacmPc
I don't recommend this for standard 3d printer materials
Milwaukee M12 Oscillating Multi-Tool amzn.to/3wJBMDo
I really don't like this for this specific application, otherwise its solid
Ryobi P440 Quarter Sheet Finish Sander amzn.to/3PcTRjo
This style of tool is awful, get a random orbital instead
Here are some of the sanding accessories shown in the video;
A decent starter pack for 2" polishing amzn.to/49LIg33
These pads tear easily but for the price can't really complain
My current favorite 2" sanding pads amzn.to/49IRyg5
These pads last much longer
The filament I used for testing is Polymaker CosPLA Version A and generally my go-to for all my larger props amzn.to/3IPaIFD

Maan, what a great video. Uncommon to hear such a dense and concise explanations nowadays.

Love the video, finally a video that can give us some insight to different sanders we can use for sanding 3d prints

Really love all the stuff that you make. Just starting to look at 3d modelling myself so any videos about your prop making process would be great 👍

Thank you! I'm working on a video to post this weekend about just getting started working with game files. If there's any particular topics you're interested in please let me know!

@@SaidaProps Great! Videos detailing your process of creating prop 3d models from either game files or from scratch would be amazingly useful. As well as how you incorporate LEDs effectively into props considering the limited space inside guns/swords. And how go about diffusing the light. Cheers!

Lemme know how you like it! I’m still buying the serious grit pads 150-400 and sponge backers on Amazon. They’re not cheap but way better than the assorted packs

@@SaidaProps i am cutting the pads from normal sanding pads from hobby store haha. So far I tried 120 grit and it works great - but I am using it ob large resin prints

Very nice video ! i was hesitating on wether or not i should get a rotary tool for a prop i'll make. now it's much more clear what are there purpose and which one to get. i would LOVE to see how you use blender in order to make a 3d model of ingame items (from screenshots to blender render). I find the software really hard to learn when it comes to modeling stuff from reference pictures. i'm impatient to see more tutorials in the future, thanks for the video :D

Thank you! I'm working on a very simple intro to working with gamefiles in blender right now. I'm using Viper's poison grenade from Valorant since its probably the easiest prop from the game.

Depends on the sander and the print but the vast majority of sanding I do is 150 - 220 - 320 and 400. I also use a lot of 800 but usually by hand. Clear parts are a little different and I’ll go higher.

an underrated one ive learned for smaller ones is actually a foot sander lol.

Would you say the Proxxon polisher is really only best for a certain size of print? I've been wanting to sand some bigger parts, should I go for a different one than you recommended?
@SaidaProps
@SaidaProps 2 дня назад
@@hcsrop If it’s a helmet, big swords or body armor I’d use a 2” angle polisher. But it really depends on how complex the shape is. If it was like car bumper size with lots of seams I would probably be buying a bigger random orbital with a sponge pad. What are you building?
@hcsrop

@@SaidaPropsI just finished printing all the parts for a B1 Battle Droid from Star Wars, it’s a little bit over 6 feet tall. There are some big flat parts like the legs, head, and torso, but also smaller parts like the arms. So if I went with a bigger one, I could see it being difficult with some of the finer parts.

a comparison between spta and proxxon would be interesting. Which would you prefer ?
@SaidaProps
@SaidaProps 2 месяца назад
Im always at the lowest 800 rpm while sanding so if you get the SPTA make sure it will go down to 1k rpm, I think the cordless one is 2k at the lowest.
@agrigor1
@agrigor1 2 месяца назад
@@SaidaProps Have you tried the 1000 rpm in proxxon? I am also concerned about the locking mechanism (M8) and the difficulty to find extenders. Looks proprietary system which might mean that we cannot use third party pads (back plates). There is a proxxon 30mm sanding plate but with high number sanding papers when we would prefer a 25mm pad where we could use third party sanding papers 100-150.
@SaidaProps
@SaidaProps 2 месяца назад
@@agrigor1 yeah I occasionally bump the speed a little bit but for PLA under 220 grit I really prefer being under 1k . There’s a lot of variables really depends on the filament you’re using. I wouldn’t want to use an extension on this tool, if I needed reach I would use the 1” or 2” backers on a rotary tool.
@SaidaProps
@SaidaProps 2 месяца назад
@@agrigor1 but that’s a good point I’m not sure what sanding pads are most easily available for you. I like 2” for what i do and 2” is easy to find on Amazon in the US. The backing plate has been fine no separation on the velcro but the threads are smaller than usual. I have lots of cheap m6 and 1/8” shank backers but the proxxon looks like m4

@SaidaProps I use files that I grind to the shapes I need. Look up machinist scrapers and you'll find the basic shapes.
