I could also mention Brotherhood of the Wolf (Le Pacte de Coup). Alexander with Colin Farrell. What Troy is, is a movie, possibly a masterpiece for those who don't watch movies. I'd argue Troy was one of THE LAST of these movies like it.
As far i heard from the makers of the movie, Brad Pitt himself invented the choreography for Achilles, espescially use the shield in such unique way. The director was surprised when Brad Pitt show his ideas, but the director thought : 'that works quiet good' , so they make it into the movie.
Actually ....it's the scene in Zoolander when Zoolander and his 3 gay model best friends are spraying eachother at the gas station to the song , "Wake me up before you GO GO" by George Michael's former band "WHAM" !! The whole movie was a historical fact !
I didn't like it. I think Hector's skill was downplayed too much. He should have been Achilles' equal. It was way too one-sided and short to be enjoyable for me to watch.
@@mynameisgarnette5087 Incorrect, Hector was blessed by Poseidon and was considered a quarter god. Better at leading armies than Achilles. However Achilles is the penultimate warrior, NO ONE was his equal in a duel. And no one would claim to be able to beat a squad v squad fight against him either because he trained his men himself. Achilles was blessed (cursed) with several lifetimes worth of combat experience, experience he distilled and trained into his squad. No one else was an equal to him and his men. Once you get beyond squad fighting however...Achilles didn't trust other people, and he did not have true charisma like Hector and thus could never get an army to follow him.
Midas T. Golden I'd say this is thenone Achilles fight they tried to actually even out. Hector broke his spear shortly after his was broken, and there were moments where Hector scratched his armor and almost stabbed him. Achilles woulda fell any other man the way he did Boagrius in clip 1. That's why Achilles tells Priam Hector was the best he ever fought after all
Kâ Lys I think you got the idiot wrong. 1. Achilles was the son of the goddess Thetis, with his father Peleus being a human man. Hence Demi-god "half God" 2. Thetis dunked Achilles in the River Styx to make him immortal but was holding him by the heel so that part became the only vulnerable part of his body 2. As seen in the movie, Achilles clearly could only be killed by the wound to the ankle since at the end when he got arrows all in his core, he could pull them out with ease but the one in his heel remained when he did. Briseis was in shock by this as Achilles did not even seem fased by being shot in the core arrow after arrow. 4. Even the boy who picks up Achilles to bring him to this war says, "They say your mother is an immortal Goddess. They say you can't be killed!" Achilles doesn't tell him obviously but we see the truth in the end. Yes, Wolfgang and the others working on the film did make this movie much more about the humans and removed the involvment of the Gods that you read about in the Iliad, and I personally really like how they made it mainly based on the people and they made it relatable with the Sons of Troy questioning the so called "omens" from the Gods, same with how we may question the religion our parents gave us. But these hints of Achilles being half God as he 100% is are there in the movie too and there's no way you can ignore them
The Patriot is STILL one of my top favorites... the scene hit so hard, you're following the rush, and feel that righteous vengeance full-throttle until the very end when you start to feel the loss and anguish. Brilliant.
Hector was considered a quarter god, blessed by Poseidon. Hence his moniker of "Tamer of Storms", Hector supposedly always had good sailing weather. If a ship killer storm was approaching it would miraculously dissipate before it reached his ship. On land he also always seemed to have good weather for his combat on land, it would never rain and ruin the terrain on the eve of combat. By comparison, Achilles was a half god. Born to be the penultimate warrior. He was never blessed with good weather, or even great arms/armor (look up the start of his career, he had absolute CRAP). However, he was gifted with several lives worth of combat experience upon the completion of his first kill. Total control over his body and the ability to push beyond human limits of exertion. It also didn't matter what weapon you handed him, he would fight like a complete master with it immediately. Hector never stood a chance in a duel. Or even squad on squad, after all, being trained by someone with all that experience increases the effectiveness of the trainees. Hector, however, had a better grasp of true army on army combat by virtue that he could get that many men to follow him! Achilles didn't trust people, only his squad mates. Due to that, while other soldiers/Greeks idolized him, they were also afraid of him and would not immediately follow his orders. It also doesn't help that the Greeks themselves weren't truly unified, while Hector's military force was completely unified.
ive watch the achilles vs hector scene hundreds of times, whoever was in charge of the the choreography really did a good fcking job and needs to do more like this.
"You won't have eyes tonight; you won't have ears or a tongue. You will wander the underworld blind, deaf, and dumb, and all the dead will know: This is Hector. The fool who thought he killed Achilles." 💀
4:53 is so good. He knows his armor and uses it to his advantage. Never seen that in a movie before. Blocking with his shin armor is a pretty amazing attention to detail. It doesn't just cut his leg off.
@@jakedizzle weird i cant find it either anymore, what a shame. Anyway it's the final scene from a movie made back in 2017, not the game, if you search "Chinese movie God of War" it comes up. It's worth a watch, it has Sammo Hung in it.
indeed, Homer portrays Hector as noble, family man, brave and patriot. When we were reading Iliad at school, all the girls in the class were supporting the Trojans.
Killer and combat instinct is godlike, physical prowess is his gift whereas hector is a commander and charisma and morally balance, which fit for a King
Your kidding right? There where dozens of points where he should have lost that fight. Forget that he’s “invulnerable” for a moment and if you view the fight as two skilled warriors, Hector should have won. There where multiple points where when Hector had the spear head and sword, if he had just thrusted the spear while he had Achilles blocked with his sword it would have been over.
@@SimonWoodburyForget Exactly right, i´ve been trained in HEMA (historical european martial arts) for over ten years. This is not how you fight and if anyone did try and do what was being done in this movie you´ed be struck in seconds. Its theatrical sword play and not one bit realistic. Most realistic sword fight in the movies i can think of is the 70´s movie titled The Duellist, their are some fights in this movie that look very nice even though in some of the duels they are using one of my least favourite swords the small sword.
ScotsLyon l have been searching for this comment for years!!!! Finally someone acknowledges Hector and his greatness. He sacrificed his life for his beloved Trojans when it was his brother's responsibility who caused them trouble. One selfless man and true patriot, 'immortal' even after thousand years. He could be a fallen hero, but he is still a HERO!!!
@@jonalaurenson7242 apart from being in charge of the Trojans defences where an estimated 31000 Greeks died, dueling Ajax that lasted all day Hector gave Ajax his sword which he later killed himself on He then gives his life in an attempt to save his country people and family so no I can't think of any other reason why the son of Priam husband of Andromache father of Astyanax has been honoured for a 1000 years and will be for the next 1000 years but maybe you could tell us all?
3:42 hardly tried to avoid a spear coming at him without losing eye contact with Hector and casually strolls into the temple Hector - Nah bruh Paris give the girl back
Brad Pitt ain't just a fine looking man but obviously he will be remembered as one of the greatest legendary actors and characters in entire Hollywood and cinema history, his versatile ability to perform virtually any roles is just paramount and exceeding imaginations. His role in Achilles, not just the fighting scenes, which probably helped by stunt performance, but his charisma to impersonate the acting of the legend Achilles is sensational.
I like how Achilles chucks the spear and hit the guy off his horse... then hector has to close the distance to throw his spear... it was epic and from that point hector knew he was way out of his league
Héctor was also on a horse so you can’t throw full strength as compared to someone standing.. throw a football standing then ride a bike and throw it bet that football only goes about 20 yards 😂
I think that is just the story the attackers told themselves for posing as heroes instead of as just thieves and murderers. Nobody starts a 10 years siege for just a women who ran with her lover. It was a robbery campaign in a time when a campaign of slaughter was seen as a time for heroic deeds
He died really because hector killed Achilles lover. His cousin in the film who was killed by hector was Achilles male lover, but it's written he was older than Achilles not younger.
Anton Rich if u watch the movie again u’ll see that Hector doesnt want to continue the war. It’s king Priam who forced him to attack the Greek Alliances on the day that Achilles supposed to leave and that led to the event his cousin or lover die.
@@AdamSchelenbergCom And in actual history... Achilles was a pretty trash person. Praim was also not cool. Hector was actually a decent person who was just trying to protect his land. Achilles and his people literally threw Hector's only son off of the walls of troy if i'm not mistaken.
@@alichandrani593 In actual history this war probably never even happened, now in the Iliad you'd be mostly correct. All the heroes are assholes Odysseus, Ajax, Priam all dicks
In The Last Year of April, The Director of this Masterpiece; Wolfgang Peterson died... thank you for bringing the historical legend alive, may your name live immortal under the banner of TROY, and the many other wondrous projects you made for Cinema.
Luke Texter Everyone to me truly is no longer the actor in Troy, I only see their characters. Shows how well they all got into role (and maybe the ling hair and ancient attire helps 😋)
Fun Fact: the stuntman who doubles Brad Pitt as Achilles in this movie,is David Leitch. You may know him as one of the creators of the John Wick franchise,he also directed "Atomic Blonde" and "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw". The fight choreography is made by him and his John Wick co-director Chad Stahelski. Both have also worked on "300" and many other famous movies, like The Matrix trilogy,BvS, V For Vendetta,Ninja Asassin etc. etc.
then whats up with the Iore of the movie where they both made an agreement to pay each other for every bIow that actually Ianded hard, and Brad having to pay aIot but Eric had to pay nothing
I always marvel at supposedly trained warriors suddenly becoming frozen when they have their thrust parried by the hero and just stand their waiting to have a sword plunged into their faces.
so basically half of the scenes are from Troy and the rest of it are two scenes from Gladiator and one from the Patriot. What a great diverse selection of movies.
Sam Fisher IF i were to pick the most trully epic fight scenes in Martial Arts movies id pick mostly scenes from the Raid, Raid 2 and some stuff with jet li in it. If we were to go by what the best was without saying we cant choose from the same movie so since that wasnt the criteria this person chose what he felt was the best even though id disagree that the patriot should be on here.
You can't rush perfection .I am sure by the turn of the next century we will get part 2 . It's nearly as slow as the Avatar franchise . Maybe it's the same people involved in this as in Avatar 😂😂🤣
“You won’t have eyes tomorrow, you won’t have ears or a tongue. You’ll wander the underworld blind, deaf and dumb, and all the dead will know. This is Hector the fool who thought he’d killed Achilles.”
My older brother showed me Troy when I was like 12 and it blew my mind. Achilles is such a complex character I don't know how I should feel but I like him is how I do feel
I believe Hector vs Achilles is perfect to portray Achilles's abilities in combat. He clearly sees that his opponent makes plenty of mistakes but he still does not deliver the final blow until Hector is completely exhausted and really has no chance to win anymore (he did not stand a chance to begin with but he still gave it his best). Loved it !
It wasn't a fair fight. Hector already lost the fight in his mind because of the guilt at killing a young boy in battle. If he was mentally and emotionally stable, he would have fought better. Though, Achilles will still defeat him😅
@@dennisrodriguez3689 one shotting somehow does not give you as much as pride than winning after a good figth. The 1st figth against the big guy was to demoralized the opponents, the figth against hector was for pride.
Troy is a great movie. They depicted Achilles as a human, period. There were no heroes and villains, just people fighting for their sides. Everybody talking how Hector was a good boi but he led thousands to their deaths the moment he didnt turn that ship around to return helen to sparta. He violated the pact his brother made with helens husband (cant remember his name). If you look closely everybody was both good and evil atst
@llleonidas102 I mean, brotherly love is a beautiful thing, but you cant ignore the fact that hector could have avoided a huge war if he simply turned around and returned helen to sparta. He didnt have to die, along with thousands of other men. But he prefered to. Dont fall to any illusions, there are no angels and demons, just men. Hector made a decision and died by it. It's a great movie and I couldn't tell you how many times I've watched it, but just imagining if it was made in Greece and by Greeks, it gives me goosebumps.
Menelaus, Agamemnon's brother, was Helen's husband. I would have enjoyed Troy if somebody hadn't said "hey screenwriter, I don't like Homer's ending; do it different"
You're wrong. If Hector would've turned around during the ship they woudlve slaughtered all of them and then left Troy without a governor to lead them to war. Which is why Agamemnon's brother said he wanted her back to kill her with his bare hands. And Agamemnon was planning to conquer Troy from the gecko. And Hector told Helen to go back to Paris when she was trying to turn herself in because they didn't cross.the sea for her but for war. So no matter what they were going to have a war against Troy from the second Paris stole Helen on the ship. Hector the only real nigga in the whole thing, but even the innocent die too. Like in real life. Can't have you bashing my homie without a true cause
@@nathanrodriguez1637 dude troy had a governor, hector's dad. Troy defended itself despite hector. He antagonized his dad about keeping on fighting. If he returned helen the moment he knew about it, even if he got slaughtered together with all his men at the time, it would have been less of a slaughter than it was the way it happened. Hector was no more hero or villain than anyone else in this story, period.
Greeks believed this happened so much that Alexander the Great visited the tomb of Achilles at Troy. We can't locate Troy now but apparently somewhere in the 320s or 330s BC Alexander knew where it was. I want a time machine that can look back and watch history like a movie that you could scroll to any event that ever happened just like watching RU-vid videos. What would be the first thing I'd watch? Maybe Hector vs Achilles? I'm not sure if this happened and neither is anyone else but it's a great story. Alexander believed it so I'll go with a yes.
the scene of mel gibson againts the soldier... incredible. The final scene in the river... wau... a father without his son.. the suffer, the pain.. OMG
We went to see Troy with my history class when it came out... that first scene vs Boagrius is what silenced all of us made us watch the hole movie in absolute silence... Fcking EPIC!!!
that scene in the patriot is so badass. the look on the kids faces is epic af cause they thought their father was a coward until that moment when he massacred them.
I like how the warriors in this scene fight each other face to face with honor instead of using cowardly deceitful strategies. But then again I'm old school you know? But hey if you cant win head up I guess machiavellian methods are better than being subjected, but what do I know? I'm just a mere musician.
Have to respect Hector. He went out and fought Achilles knowing he would surely die. He also lasted longer than any man that has fought him AND he connected one of his attacks.
Troy is underrated. The critics were trying to compare it to Braveheart and Gladiator, and they were uncomfortable with a guy being shirtless for some reason, even when it made sense for the scene. Anyway, it was a very solid movie. It wasn't Gladiator, but it was certainly 9/10.
@@issi529 Aesthetically, sure. He was in great shape. He looked absolutely ridiculous the way he pouted and posed for the camera to show off those aesthetics. Seriously - just rewatch it and think about that while you watch the guy. It's cringe-worthy.
Yoooo thats what I was thinking!!!!!! Like "let me find out Brad was suppose to play a Thor !!!" Cause Hector played a Hulk at one point in time so...... YES that would of been dope for Brad to play Thor but Angelina would of been looking for dat CHECK for them kids! Lmmfaooo
One of my favorite movies! So unfair for Hector..as great a warrior as he was and a good man..he was no match for Achilles who could only be beat one way! I hated to see this fight
For anyone watching this video Do you know what religion is right Do you know who created you? Do you know the mind of your creation? Did you know anything about the prophets? Did you know that you will die Did you know that there is another life after death My brother if you do not learn You must retreat yourself With your Lord
Eclipse 01 yes but in italian it s sounds better.. i am italian and we are from the ancient romans ... so plis.. english - gladiator is not a good relation
I saw it in the theater by accident. I hadn't seen a trailer or anything, but it was the only movie that looked even remotely decent. I was pleasantly surprised.
Toyota Camry, Kingdom of Heaven. It also has Orlando Bloom and Brendon Gleason, has sweeping epic fights and battles, takes a lot of fiction liberties, and is otherwise quite entertaining (do the directors cut).
