Our Gaspé road trip continues with a sunny day of sightseeing followed by a dinner of the best seafood in Gaspé. We start out at the lighthouse in Carleton-sur-mer and soak up its laidback holiday vibes. Next we visit Ferme Bourdages, a strawberry farm that makes its own strawberry wine along with lots of other products. There’s a cafe and shop so we order a super fresh strawberry milkshake to go. Further along the road, we stretch our legs in New Carlisle by strolling along the accessible boardwalk on the beach. After that we visit the Paspébiac National Historic Site which has been at the heart of the cod fishing industry since 1767. You can tour the original buildings, watch the blacksmith make nails using bellows that date back to 1840, and learn all about how the cod export business grew and shaped history. It’s a fascinating place. After working up a hunger, we make another stop at Mich Cafe in Chandler where you can enjoy your food and drinks outside while sitting in giant tea cups. Next up is a roadside stop to see the picturesque wharf in L’anse-à-Beaufils where the colourful boats are charming. Before arriving in Percé, we pull over at a lookout point that offers a great first look down to iconic Percé Rock. We arrive at magic hour when the light is lighting up the rock in yellow and orange hues. Ready for dinner, we pull in to La Maison du Pêcheur, located right on the water, for a fantastic meal of fresh, local Gaspésienne cuisine. This restaurant is a must-eat in Percé (reserve ahead so you don’t miss out!).
We are delighted to partner with the Québec Maritime Tourism Board to bring you this new series around one of the most picturesque and historic parts of Canada. We've had a lot of requests to share more of our home country and this is the perfect time to introduce you to one of the best summer road trips in Canada.

Thanks, Linda! Yasss! I know you share my love for history! 🙌 This site really took me by surprise and there was so much to learn. Just incredible how every part of the process was done from scratch and how it all pulled together. Too bad they overfished the cod so much 🤪 I think you would love a Gaspé road trip!

Excellent as always, a really pretty place to visit. The seafood in the restaurant looked amazing, everything looked delicious. I like most seafood, but love mussels, clams and prawns. Enjoyed lobster on rare occasions when I ate it. Love you guys enthusiasm for speaking French. I was kind of rusty when I visited Quebec back in the day. Would be better now.

Hey Shaun! It's nice to have the opportunity to speak French. Sounds like you'll have to go back to enjoy it more this time ;) The meal at this restaurant was unforgettable and we especially liked the commitment to serving locally sourced products and working with local producers. It just adds to the charm of the place. And the VIEW of the water and Percé Rock was worth it alone.

I had totally forgotten the 'sauce as the best vehicle for bringing out the flavors in the food' thoughts,.. something that popped up now & then back in your euro-adventures way back. So true. That food really did look & sound totally amazing & absolutely delicious. Family-run restaurants are nearly always the best, and well-worth the wait that you had to go through, to get into there, and taste the food.

One of your's & Marc's videos I hadn't watched yet. So here goes.; I totally loved the scene of you both running & playing around the giant strawberry sculpture/thing..too funny. Yes, You both totally should have gotten at least 2 strawberry milkshakes for both of you, if not a third for sharing afterward, for how incredibly good that one must have been, absolutely fresh strawberries used for them. The totally fascinating history on the wooden fishing boats and the square nails was really interesting. Those boats are such works of art & science & hardwork by those carpenters for the fishermen. So amazingly ingenious woodworking, with the particular characteristics of the different types of wood used & how to best utilize the qualities of each one. Super cool. Ps, I also loved that wooden cup seating area outdoors, enjoying the outdoors in that beautiful weather that day. It looks like you had the completely perfect day for your sightseeing & then having lunch/dinner at that seafood restaurant, overlooking the water & that gorgeous view for scenery.
@EileenAldis

haha the strawberry was fun and the milkshake was so fresh! Loved the access to fresh produce here. And the history. Just so much to discover in this part of Canada. This was an amazing day topped off by the restaurant and views at the end 🤤

Oh this trip just gets better and better! Such a cute lighthouse at Carleton-sur-mer! (and another one later on!) Nice that the sun appeared for you guys too. Such incredible history all over, my gosh. Hmm might wanna keep Marc away from those milkshakes LOL! I was cracking up!! Sensational views at the end. Those colours are phenomenal. Yes, I like some seafood. Salmon is my fav. I'm ok with shrimp. Recently tried crabcakes and liked. Never ate anything in a teacup for sure! :)
@EileenAldis
@EileenAldis 2 года назад
haha well I can confirm that eating in a teacup is quite fun! Too bad they didn't turn like the ones at Disneyland ;) Although that wouldn't work too well for digestion....😂I knew you'd appreciate the cute lighthouse! It's a very cheerful one, I think. And, yes, Marc clearly loved the milkshake haha. The strawberries were so nice and fresh. Reminds me of summer in a cup. I would probably say salmon is also my favourite seafood. It's the one I eat most often.

@@EileenAldis I watched several of your videos on my hometown area and really appreciated your perspectives. I grew up in New Richmond, (not far from the Strawberry farm lol) and now live north of Toronto where my sons were raised. My grandsons plan to move to the Gaspe when they finish university in BC. If you have not visited Montmorency Falls, just outside Quebec City you may experience this. There is a small town called ste. Flavie in the area that is full of artists and artisans. Another unique place I have lived in northern Quebec is Chisassibi ( a Cree village) filled with Canadian history. It was formerly known as Fort George and was only accessible by plane at one time.
