I just downloaded this game to try again. I've not played it since I was a child a long long time ago. Back then I had this habit of making a character and spending hours upon hours on what I called the "Tutorial Island" until I had exhausted every possible available thing for me to do, then I would travel off the Island to either of the main cities, immediately become overwhelmed and then restart the process all over again. I had so much fun making different characters and just replaying that tutorial that it kind of amazes me thinking back on it. Growing up this was also my mother's favorite game. Hearing her from the other room go "Sparkly!" In excitement always made me laugh and watching her decorate her housing areas was fun. It'll be very interesting to see just how much has changed from my memories though it'll be hard to compare since I never really did much past the tutorial and I don't think that Island exists anymore unfortunately.

I also started a ranger when I started playing a couple of weeks after launch, in 2004. I remember 'ranja down' and the sheer joy of getting my first hunter of gnolls title. I've tried other classes but it's always been my favorite. I haven't played since 2021 but your vids are giving me the itch to check it out again.

Ahhh the memories. Good 20 years of my life dedicated to EQ and EQ2 with some breaks/college. Played on Nagafen for years, started the first day it was up. Beserker Rottk and Coercer Sloopy. Fought in PvP or just goofed off more than anything. So many great memories. Probably played each class up to the 20s due to alt-itus

My first character in EQ2 was a Guardian. I remeber if you could get your Def 5 levels higher you could solo 3 level above you Heroics (Vanilla game when the cap was 50 before Xpacs) I discovered the SK and it was a game changer. I agree on the Necro, mine does amazing damage and I use the Scout pet. I have not played the Warden much but did get into the Fury (I actually use mine to PL low level toons sometimes) and love it more then the other healers (Just personal preference). For some reason I got into the Dirge and while the Dps is not the best I enjoy the class a lot. I was surprised how well the Brigand plays and enjoy being able to toggle Def stance and being beefier or going all out Dps. Good video.

@the1only1witness
@the1only1witness 9 месяцев назад
As long as the TLE is on the Echoes of Faydwer expansion (or beyond), the melee healers - warden, inquisitor, and mystic - are great classes to solo with as a new player on the TLE. The main reason for this is because of the melee skill conversion in their class specific aa tree. If you spend 5 points on an ability, you will effectively get a melee version of it that does damage comparable to that spell being expert level, giving you the ability to do respectable damage without needing to have the money or the crafting to upgrade your spells. You'll also have innate survivability as a healer which can help if you're trying to solo harder stuff in only quested gear. These days though, if you're somewhat of an experienced player, the TLE solo-powerhouses are always necro, shadowknight, and illusionist throughout all the expansions.

I'm a big fan of Necromancers. I started EQ1 in the alpha testing phase (not beta), and it was a blast. I ended up being forced from the Pally class because the lag in game made it impossible to be at the right range to kill a fleeing mob, so DOT and pet fixed that for me. Not a lot of people liked grouping in the 10-20 level range with Necromancers because our damage took time to build up, and our two wizards were off on their own and I was told to just level up on my own. I was at 16, they were at 22, so I ignored groups and learned to solo on my necro. Agro kiting, fear kiting, root rotting. I quickly mastered each. All the sudden those two wizards were not happy with me when they realized they were only up from 22-27, where I'd gone from 16 to 32. They actually wanted me to slow down leveling and let them catch up, although they wouldn't do that for me. Great friends...(NOT). In EQ1, a Necromancer can solo better than any. I still fondly recall the two druids in (I think) the common lands by the portal. Great solo XP for a necro, and how pissed people got when they tried to heal the druid and they could not keep up with my DPS. About to get back into EQ2. Next step I guess is to see if I can recover my old account. Thanks for the video. I'll likely go back to the necro, although in EQ2, people really loved me as a templar. Long ago though. If you like, I could tell you some fun experiences alpha testing EQ back in 1999.

@@Renfail Some funny things from Alpha. There were the typical glitches to work out, but city guards didn't allow PvP near them, so hitting someone or casting spells on players meant the guards attacked. So, if you even cast a buff spell on yourself, the guards would come kill you. Fish, sharks, and things that should stay in the water would chase you across land. Damage shields that harmed those that hit you...if you and your opponent both had these, each would instantly proc on the damage done by the other DS for a nearly insta-death loop of procs. You couldn't drag a corpse. If you couldn't get to your corpse, you'd have to trust someone to loot your corpse and bring your stuff back to you. And they had a default set of attacks across mobs, until they realized they had snakes kicking, and found it so funny they left it in game. Quest mobs didn't have all their chat. You'd click on an NPC and get something like "Response for quest ABC step 3". And long after the game was out and the Planes of Power raids were common, they screwed up a script and when people were fighting one raid boss, it would agro another from across the zone. Only 2 guilds beat both bosses at the same time like this. An uber high end raiding guild, and our guild. The uber guild would run raids for epic weapons with 6 man groups (pissed everybody off LOL). We didn't have great gear, and we expected to wipe, but pre-planning worked out and we were able to take down both. Everybody else was too scared. It wasn't the most fun role, but I was happy for my necro to be a mana battery for the healers in that raid.

@@Renfail curious-- what are your thought on the BL? do BL get spirit of wolf from their shaman side like eq1?
@the1only1witness
@the1only1witness 9 месяцев назад
@@cc66bb44 BL's just get 2 stances - feral and spiritual - and each get a respective set of advantages you can use (abilities that generate savagery). They both also have a set of respective primals (abilities that spend savagery), however the primals that you have access to depend on the pets that you have grandmastered (there is of course a generic/base set). Feral is all damage, and spiritual can provide some healing and buffs along with solid group power regen. I have no idea how they pair up in the endgame these days, but when I was last clued in they were probably the most variable dps class; ie, if you had all the "things" and knew how to play, they were solid T1.5 (T1 being only summoner and ranger), but if you didn't, their dps was pretty meh. Or in other words, they're a hard class to get to max level and immediately play without investing a lot of time into them. Regardless though, they are most definitely not the best solo class xD. Ironically they might be decent soloers in the endgame on live, but outside of that they're worse than any healer, pally/sk, coercer/illu, and ranger. Their warder/pet doesn't have any taunt effects, and the healing in spiritual isn't enough to solo heal through difficult content (this mostly applies to TLE). Even in situations where you can, you lose out on sooooo much damage, and that difficult boss/zone you're trying to solo becomes incredibly long. It's also a mark against them that they have very little aoe potential in spiritual, which is a large part of being an effective and efficient solo class. They're still fun to play though, and definitely a unique class in the game.

Oh, nice! Pallies are an amazingly well rounded class (= Typical on Kael). Ironically though (unless this has since been changed) bard's Victorious Concerto is the most broken ability on Kael atm. If you can get to a certain charge threshold, you will be able to 1ko or 2ko any of the raid bosses due to the scaling and the god buff. Troubies are the best too because of their 30s damage immunity ability (idr what it's called, but it's from aa's). I stepped away from the game shortly after that change, but it sent bards from the bottom to the top of the "best class to solo all of the achievements" meta list xD.

I use to main warden (I've played everything so my opinion comes down to actual playstyle and ability to solo without a merc because I am selfish and refuse to share plat and xp with those slackers) and they are amazing soloers. That being said, I can do anything on my channeler completely solo better than I can on any other class. Part of that comes down to pure time and effort put in, because I will say it was a rough start for me when channelers came out, but it's my go to class for anything I want to do. As a side note, I tried to play my ranger the other day and just got turned into a smear on the wall lmao.

One of the best eq2 pvp players iv ever met was a Paladin ( Elwin on Nagafen ) I watched that guy solo literally an entire zone of players by himself. Dude was on exile faction, max lvl, he walked into QH one day and just stood there in front of the bank in front of like 80 - 100 players, many of them maxed out as well. His presence alone formed an even bigger crowd and a raid of lvl 80s formed over the coarse of like 10 min. Everyone knew what was going to go down, they were going to attack Elwin. I waited for them to attack, thats when agrro would be tags for anyone who hit him. This guy had the WHOLE DAMN zone try to jump him, including me.
