Just found your channel, and wow so informative great format, the sprinkle of humor thrown in is perfect, the thumbnails and video quality is so pleasing! Keep it up man!
The IBIS might push some people for the X00VI to be fair, it's quite neat. Now if only Fuji could just release the next X-E line camera that is cheaper than both the X-Pro and X100 with IBIS, recipe for success right there.
All the hype around the VI made me buying an xPro2 which is old, and the AF is a little bit slow … but it works. I like to have lesser options. I concentrate more on the process and I don’t care to have only 24 mp resolution. When the light is right the light is right….😮 I love the optical view finder… I can see people may run into my picture which is a great plus doing street. It’s myth that we need the latest and greatest gear. 😊
@@samhardy2038yep.. Cartier-Bresson used a 50mm Leica lens on 35mm for lots of the greatest candids of the 20th century. Think, view then click. Nowadays too many are zoom, move if needed, then click (lots). Pro Film used to cost a lot. Good digital bodies give you 100+k ‘snaps’ for about £1k say. So that’s 1p a snap….and for many snappy folk, it lots like 1ps worth…😂
I ordered mine on 02/26 from BH and I don't think it will ship anytime soon. Kind of annoyed with Fuji and really my excitement for this camera is gone. Thinking about canceling my pre order and just sticking with my Sony kit.
On my way to London camera exchange to sell mine today. Thought it would act as a great throw in the bag camera. But I’ve only taken 50 shots in nearly two months. Same as your X100T situation.
I just took 1000+ shots over 2 weeks in China and it was superb: street, landscape, night shots, people, architecture, ND to capture waterfalls, IBIS down beautiful caves. Skin tones are excellent. Setting the right film sim makes a heck of a difference. It’s next off to my Dad’s 90th birthday weekend, then London for a few days, then my nephews wedding where it’ll be great for candids and group shots - fill in flash and beautiful skin tones. I’ll let the pro do their stuff but produce more spontaneous shots for the family album. Silent shutter and IBIS for the ceremony though. If you only took 50 shots, Best to buy an iPhone 15 Pro Max with the money. It’ll be far more useful for you and can take pretty great shots in daylight as well as night videos. It’s also a phone, boarding pass etc…….😊
@@andrewcrossley2448 I bought the limited edition one as a keepsake. I do also have the 15 pro max! If I really want to go out and shoot, I’ve got a pro camera. I find it hard to see the need for this plus a phone plus a pro camera because if it’s anything meaningful, I’d never want to leave it to chance so I take a better camera. The X100VI is stunning in many ways. Just not for me. Sounds like you had a blast in china! Happy shooting.
Got the Ricoh GRiii instead, very happy with it. Smaller as well, fits a better space within my gear. Bigger camera (Sony) and small compact camera that fits in my pocket (Ricoh).
Very cool review! My thoughts: I learned photography on an old Minolta SRT303 b, my first digital camera was a Sony Cybershot R1 and for some reason I switched later to Nikon. 😅🤷♂️ After 10 years with Nikon, then I switched to Sony back (2018). The change was difficult and the menus of the Sony were a horror. In the meantime, I've ended up with the Sony A7 IV and the Sony A1, which I use exclusively for clients jobs, but my always-on camera is the Sony RX100 VII. 😃👌🏽 But what I've always sorely missed is the analog look of Fuji cameras! This is so retro! So brilliant! 🤩 Maybe I'll switch to the Fujifilm x100 VI..... after all, but the lens of the Sony RX100 VII is just unbeatable (even if it's fixed). My God, these technical temptations are lurking everywhere! 😅
I have owned about every brand of camera on the market. I am partial to Canon however. That being said I have owned several of fuji's cheap S series (bridge) cameras and am amazed at how great they are for the price. Especially used, they are cheap as dirt. And I can't understand why???? There were certain models that fell short in function category, but not in pic quality. Never owned an expensive Fujifilm camera, but sure have been tempted too.
Amazingly put together video. I've been wanting to ask you something. Can you do a review of the LX-100m2 for 2024? I bought one at the start of the pandemic (it was cheaper than the Fuji X100V) and then I got too sick to use it. I lost a lot of muscle mass, recovery was slow, and now my instincts and muscle memory are all wrong after I got better. Dusting off my LX-100m2, I barely remember how to use it. You're very insightful and amusing and I adore your vids. It's why I'm asking. Other reviewers can be too technical to the point of sucking out the joy from taking pictures.
Shot Fuji X-E and X-T cameras for many years with the ICL but decided to stick with my current Sony compact C cameras of the A7CII and A7CR. Still like ability to switch lenses. Can also consider Sony’s latest APS-C A6700 body. Take care and thanks for the video.
I got rid of my X-100 because of the horrible and incredibly annoying menu system. Why can’t they develop a menu system like Canon’s and Nikon’s? Even Sony’s is better.
the best street photography camera is definitely not this. I had the x100v and hated it because of the lack of manual focus marks on the barrel. I do only street photography and after a long back and forth switched back to leica analog. best street photography camera would be the one that has taken the best street photos and historically speaking that is a leica m. even though it does not take any "better" photos than any other camera, it just is the best camera.
Nice review, Tom. I'm waiting (and probably will wait forever) for a compact-size camera like this with dual card slots. As much as I think the camera's performance is up to snuff, I can't justify shelling out this kind of money for a non-professional system, i.e. no dual card slots. I've got one too many compact shooters as it is that can never be backups for my pro bodies. But as for the rest of the specs, this camera looks pretty impressive. Like you, I'll never buy it.
As a new photographer hobbyist….could I ask what you would buy for digital weekend photography. I mostly use a minolta x700 but want a similar digital option.
Would love to have this camera but the long pre-order time is such a let down. When you are having stock problems for years then I bet something fishy is going on with Fujifilm and how they create artificial scarcity similar to clothing brands like Supreme.
Then again their supply chain is absolute levels of nutso with contract manufacturers running the gamut from Japan, China, Indonesia, Philippines, I'm not sure if Vietnam is included but I wouldn't be surprised if it is there. Honestly I didn't even know Philippines is a place that makes lens until I saw some of the lens that are made there (apparently for the same lens models they beat out those made in China). Somehow managed to buy the last new black X-T5 in Akihabara that was quietly hiding out in a smaller retailer there (Bic Camera and Yodobashi were showing no stock there). It was cheaper in Japan than back at home in Singapore, especially after counting the tax exemption.
The ridiculously poor availability of higher-end compact cameras leaves interested potential buyers like me shrugging their shoulders and carrying on with my iPhone. Fuji and Ricoh could easily up production but they choose not to. It really needs one of the other big players to bring out something of a similar quality and make it widely available. The market is crying out for disruption. I still have an old Lumix TZ90 so that will go with me on holiday in a week's time.
why do so many, if not all, RU-vid camera reviewers not talk about the view finder, it's features, and it's magnification? One of the most important aspects of taking a photo.... is composing a photo.
@@TomCalton hey been trying to figure out, can you see the lcd screen with polarized glares on this camera? For Street photography that becomes important. I can see without any issues on my zf.
Yep. I'm a broke ass lately. 4 years ago, I would have considered a camera like this. But, the economy now sucks and the cameras I have will have to do. I do appreciate the great review, and maybe down the road, I'll be able to find one of these on the used market.
You’ve sold yours then? Have you actually tried the camera or do you believe the reviewers that only use the camera for a few days then off to the next camera
I just returned mine and keeping my Q3. The autofocus is no faster than the X100V as I had that one 4 years ago. If anything I think its better to go with a XT5 and a 27mm f2.8 pancake. I had to get a thumb grip and hand grip so it ended up being a slightly heavier. But no doubt about it Fuji rushed this out because of the demand for the X100V. The fact they used the same old battery proves this. I am sure 99% of people would have preferred a few more millimeters for the newer battery that already 4 years old. Also they should have gave consumers and option for a 28mm and 35mm choice. I didn't like made in China also and yes that does make a difference.
I prefer the Ricoh GR3 or GR3x as they are smaller and don't seem so intimidating to people, and the Raw image quality is just as good as the Fuji X100VI, that's my experience. However, Video is not very good with Ricoh GR cameras, but that's not what street photography is all about, is it?
If you have not yet ordered an X100VI, you will never get one ... unless, of course, you buy one at a grossly-inflated price someplace like eBay. I ordered mine 4 days after it was announced, and I am sure that a new version (VII) will be announced before I ever get my VI.
So what happens when you want to photograph a concert or sports event where the action is 30m away? Thats the problem for me, I love telephoto lenses. Fall back to the iPhone’s 5x 12MP lens 😆
Since this has a 40MP sensor, you can crop to 50mm equivalent and still get a sharp 24MP image just like last gen, or a 10MP 75mm equivalent. The lens is able to resolve full detail at 40MP so these still look amazing.
@@Mw02veg That may have been my point: ultimately this is a lovely camera that I’ll simply be unhappy with on certain occasions. That said, I love shooting at 35mm, and it has a lot going for it, most of the time.
@@RikMaxSpeed I own Nikon CPA and Pana LX7 and both lenses outresolve sensors they are matched with. I'd rather have a lens that outresolves the sensor than the other way around.
I was interested in this camera, but after a bit of research I found quite a few gotchas that stopped me from getting one: Outdated lens with loud/slow focusing (audible if recording video), cannot resolve 40MP wide open, 35mm f/3 FF equivalent so no selfies or landscape or wildlife, a bit tight indoors, limited background separation in full body or even portrait, lower dynamic range than an iPhone 15Pro (tested by CINED), poor-ish low light performance, noisy sensor, no flip screen, poor battery life so you have to buy/bring spares (and potentially remove the tripod plate to swap each time), not great for videography (massive crop in 4k60 or 6.2k, awful rolling shutter, no 3.5mm mic input, ports block grip, drop in dynamic range in higher resolutions), subpar autofocus (improved but far from Sony/Canon), slow performance with film simulations, low resolution hybrid evf, no lens hood / ability to add filters / weather sealing / grip without additional costs, etc, etc. It’s not for me but it is a very pretty camera :) - I had an X-T3 and X-S20 which I loved, but since trying Sony full frame, there's no going back, the jump in quality, usability, convenience is immense.
Thx for review. Well done! Anyway, camera isn’t actually impressive. The screen is joke. Software looks ugly. Overpriced. Anyway, seems there are fans who are ready to suffer.
@@TomCalton I don't think so. Fuji is just a company that cheats money. They have never carefully made any camera. Every Fuji camera is purchased at a price that exceeds the technical standards of three years ago. Of course, its biggest selling point to attract users to spend money is its appearance fifty years ago.
Poor focus and huge camera size (this is especially obvious on the XPRO series and XT series) Fujifilm even shamelessly said that this is because the camera has more functions packed into it. Is it simply because the industrial design is backward? Even in order to catch up with the high sensitivity of Sony and Canon, Fujifilm actually processed the RAW output and sacrificed image quality for noise reduction.
