While on my first ride at Walker Ranch, I discuss my thoughts on the different geo settings provided on the Stumpy EVO. While there may not be a straight answer to which setup is the best, there are a few points worth talking about. Come along for the ride!

I actually enjoy videos that include the "no shame in Walking the bike". It let's me and everyone else know exactly what the trails are about. No sugar coating. Great videos 👍

"If you ain't hikin', you ain't bikin!" super cool to see you show us walking your bike; a REAL reality for every mountain biker.

I’ve only ridden Walker a few times, both ways seem about the same to me. Props showing you walking that section. Makes the vibe more chill and realistic. We all aren’t just smashing everything in sight.

Part of the point of this channel is to have someone's take on the trails who isn't a "pro" and more of just a normal dude. Thanks as always for watching!

The best route I've found is counter-clockwise to the staircase (6:35) and back.
@FoxtonR
@FoxtonR Год назад
@@Anthony_Alvarado From the main lot I parked at and then turning around once you hit stairs? I could see that being a nice shorter ride. My theory is parking at the northeast lot (Ethel) and going either direction through the full loop might make for a solid ride. It'd be nice to end your ride on a downhill if possible.

@@FoxtonR Sorry! I meant counter-clockwise (corrected now)! The finish on the counter-clockwise to the staircase and back is pretty brutal but I make an exception because I like the descent that starts near the Crescent Meadows Trailhead down to South Boulder Creek. Funny I've ridden Walker a lot and never knew about the Ethel Harrold Trailhead! Thanks!

Also, I was mid on headset, low on chainstay and just felt sluggish after riding for a couple months, but I'm thinking of going slack head/hi chainstay. Thanks for the tips! Also, also, I love the full/real edits; feels like I'm on the trail, not some dreamy fake all downhill fun videos like every other youtuber. I love the realism/actualism! Awesome work!

Much appreciated! Give that setup a shot, might feel a bit different. Thanks as always for watching!

Low chain stay makes it good at high speed, but feels like a bit of a pig when it’s tight and narrow.

Yes, for sure. Editing, different views makes the videos much more interesting and enjoyable.

Unfortunately I didn't capture any third person angles this time around but look for more varied content in the future!

went and rode Walker for the first time yesterday, took the CW route and the hike-a-bike up the stairs was not fun - I was wishing I was going down the entire time lol - but the descent from the parking lot to the river is great. Past the hike-a-bike there's quite a few sustained technical sections that I wasn't able to climb up, but this was my first time riding a black diamond so I wasn't expecting to be able to get up everything. Will be fun to try CCW next time!

I'll be doing clockwise next time just to change it up. Have fun out there!

I rode with it stock for a few months then went slack / high like you for a few months, just changed it yesterday to neutral / low so no comment yet but so far I liked slack / high 👍
@FoxtonR
@FoxtonR Год назад
There isn't a ton of difference but I definitely like that slack position. Keep playing around and report back!

I change it depending on where I’m riding. Steep and high for general trail riding. Mid and high for tight alpine switchbacks. Slack and high for steep tech. Slack and low for bike parks. Steep and low for jump lines.

I like this breakdown, all makes sense to me!

Walker is an interesting ride, it is one of those ones that goes well both ways, though I think most people go clockwise so they're going up the stairs and not down them.
@FoxtonR
@FoxtonR Год назад
Yeah if I had to guess, it's because of the stairs like you said, although walking down them is really no more difficult than walking up. Next time I go I'll switch directions and see what I think.

I run mine high and steep for New England trails but I ride a lot of tight/twisty stuff. The trails in the vid don’t warrant that obviously.
@FoxtonR
@FoxtonR Год назад
Yeah Ive never had a problem with maneuverability with this bike on these trails, so the longer bike setup seems to work well. More testing to come.
