What makes this film exceptional for 1995? Made by a young medical student with a dream to make his first film idea a reality. Benson Riddle approached his film project like a major production. The only difference, he would use Super 8mm Kodachrome film stock due to his limited budget of $2,000. Super 8mm was a film stock used at the time to document family events, like weddings family holidays etc. Young film makers like Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson of The Lord of the Rings fame shot their first films on Kodak 8mm film stock.

- Editing
Editing Super 8mm film was not only an artistic thing but it was also physical and mistakes couldn't usually be undone, so great care had to be taken not to damage the film or cut in the wrong place. Super 8 film is loaded into the camera and the same film developed then cut up and physically spliced back together with glue or clear tape. Generally if a scene is cut short it can never be extended back satisfactorily.
There was no post-production for Super 8. The only effects that could be done were at the time of filming, in camera, 2 effects, fades and dissolves a feature only available on top of the range cameras. What you shot you got and no changes could be made to the images.
The physical joining of the film with glue or tape creates a raise, when projected a jump can be seen as the splice goes through the projector gate, this is typical of all 8mm films.

- Sound and sound effects editors
Due to the noise of the camera the dialogue on this film was dubbed and would have been a challenging job to synchronise. The sound effects created are excellent and well above what any Super 8mm productions were doing at the time.
There were six people involved with this process.
Oscar Gajardo
Ian Little
George Mihalos
Tony Gill
Lucia Barrera
Clement Girault
- Scrolling end credits
Always seen on professional films but extremely rare on 8mm.
So to have the film end like the professionals Benson would need to find a way to arrange this. Three people were involved to make this possible.
- Titles and end credits
Brendan Dillon
Edward Gallier
Cameron Yeoh
Unique camera movement for 8mm
To achieve the professional look for some scenes Benson arranged for his grandfather to make a portable dolly rail track system. This enabled the camera to smoothly move in, out and sideways for some scenes. Rather than giving the standard jerky hand held camera movement typical of 8mm films.
