Tamarindo… in Mexico this is commonly used in candy, drinks, and some foods 😊 I remember going to elementary school in Mexico and always picking the tamarindo tree 😂 I know they use tamarindo for Sinigang in the Philippines to give it that delicious sour and savory flavor

In the Philippines we call that sampaloc. That is the main ingredient for our sour soup or sinigang. We also make candies out of that tamarind or eat that as it is.

When ripe personally my favorite fruit. Try eating it with the goji berries that change sour flavors to sweet its incredible. My favorite way to prepare it is making Agua de Fresca which just involves boiling the tamarind in water untill the flesh falls off the seed. Then mixing with your desired blend of fruits and boiling till their flesh falls off. After let it sit with the pulp untill cooled and filter. Reminds me of a more savory lemonade and is very refreshing. Mint is often added too

I'm an Indian. Its very common here. We make many recipes. We also use the seeds to make eatable powder by adding different things which s very good for bone pains to he healed. We also make pickle which are long lasting for two to three years too.

In the Philippines, we ate it on the tree with sugar or salt in our pocket. We threw the seeds to people who happened to pass under the tree 😂😂 childhood memories more fun on the tree than on the screen 😢

@@user-tb5ot8op4v Yea but the only North Indian dish ik that incoperates this is the water for pani puri. As a south indian, i know tamarind is the main ingredient to rasam and in smabar. I also know that Tamils love rasam so they eat is quite often.

It's a Indian origin plant is called Imli in India. Arabian marchants was called "Tamar-e-Hind" who introduced it to Europe where it was called "Tamarind".

We call it tetul (তেতুল) in Bangla. But like others mentioned, tamarind is from Arabic Tamar Hindi (تمر هندي) or Indian date/fruit. The word tamar is dry date and this imli/puli/tetul fruit in the subcontinent seemed like some variety of date to Arabs.
