1. Comprehensive insurance > third party 2. Start date should be on a working day not weekend 3. Increase excess voluntary insurance 4. Add additional driver(s) (preferably low risk drivers with plenty of experience) 5. Lower the mileage you will be driving
From my own experience I found having an additional experienced driver helps. Money supermarket for me has cheaper quotes plus I found adding the optional extras on the comparison site rather than on the quoted website is somehow slightly cheaper than the quoted costs if you add it on the insurers website. An example being it was £20 extra for legal cover on an insurer if I put that option to be included on the comparison site compare to it being £30 if I put it in the insurers site. Saying I do 4000 miles or over is cheaper compared to saying I'm doing less than that. Having the start date 5-10 days later is cheaper. Address is a big one but sadly you may not be able to change that unless you live in certain places. I live in London so sadly insurance is a scam. But thankfully its getting cheaper and reasonable whilst I'm building up my experience and no claims
Hi, I’ve been told adding additional drivers will make your insurance more expensive compared to just been the only driver on a car. Apparently your insurance will go down more over the first few years if your the only driver. I kinda feel like this is BS. But would make sense if you were just the second driver on a car for your first few years? Just wondering if you know? Thanks
I got my first car at £1004 at 17. It was a 1.0 aygo but unfortunately written off 2 weeks ago due to a neighbour. My biggest tip to have your policy starting in 3+ days. This makes the difference of hundreds of pounds. Use comparison websites. Also try switch your family to a multicar policy (Admiral), everyone will save money. Also get a 1 litre. Change your job title, and add 1-2 drivers. Generally parents are great because they have lots of experience. If you're not sure what car to get, look at cars in group 1 insurance. My aygo was great, I loved it, so I recommend one of those (the same as a C1 and 107).
I got a mk2 mx5 1.8 for £960 a year. For my first year of insurance. just a tip 1000-3000 miles per year is the same price... and alot cheaper than putting 8000 miles. Also do put at night you will store your car in a locked garage. it really helps lower premiums. And don't fit mods or whatever. if you choose to add mods it can add like £1500 to the insurance cost... (not fitting mods myself for a while and not declaring is also illegal). Also add an experienced driver (like a parent or two) to your insurance it is crucial for better value.
My car was £2000 without me changing my start date of the insurance, I changed it to 1 month ahead of when I buy the car and I saved £500. So now it’s £1500. Also thanks for the tips because you saved me £400.
I’m 18 just passed my test put my dad as main driver me and my mum as additional drivers got 595 for a 2016 corsa. Also phone them up and you could haggle them down a bit as well
I`ve ridden a motorcycle until I was 25, full motorcycle license insurance was 200 a year for a 1000cc, then once I built up 6 years no claims and I was 25 I did my car license, I can now get a 1.5litre for £500 fully comprehensive all the bells and whistles....... moral is if you don`t need a car, get the license now and ride a motorbike for as long as you can until you have built a little no claims on it and get a little older.
Hi mate, when I go to do my insurance on like compare websites. They ask about previous driving experience but it’s only says cars under the options. So I never get to put my experience on a bike down. If that makes sense, even thought it’s only like 2 years on a bike. Any ideas? Rhanks
@@bradleytobylee4945 hi, there should be an option of other vehicles/license, click and add motorcycle license or the bike, and input the details of how long you held the license and or how much no claims you have for a motorcycle, as far as I'm aware this only works for a full motorcycle license. All the best!

That's... Kinda smart (ur gonna pay the ~£2000 regardless if not having a high excess), worthy "risk/reward" situation if you ask me (for the first year at least). I think he may not live in London like me or have experience already😂
I did really well with tesco and I'm still on a provisional license. I'm 31 and my dad and sister are on the bill. Also work for Tesco though which is a bonus because I got 10 percent off.
Oh yeah forgot to mention I got it down to 37.50. But my sister gives me a tenna each month towards it so just under 30. But still you cant moan at under 40 quid a month. It will probs go up when I pass more than likely hope it's not a massive difference though.
@@philhodgkinson6296 Let me know by how much if you haven't passed already! Also, I haven't researched into this but look into transferring your No Claims Bonus (NCB) years to your full license/insurance! All the best.
I’ve only just passed my test and my car is a mk5 golf gt tdi (I bought it for 300 quid, I can’t afford much else) the insurance as it stands fully comp is £3,500 for the first year, I don’t know weather or not to just pay it because I’ve been trying for about a week to bring it down
Hi, could anyone tell me what's the crack with hastings direct you drive, because their quotes on money supermarket are always dirt cheap and like a good few hundred quid less than the next cheapest and sometimes so cheao that it doesn't make sense. At one point i was messing around at how much quotes went up with a mods like tinted windows and alloy wheels and they went up a few hundred quid but the hastings went even lower like 680 quid on a 1.2 polo for a 19 year old with 0 no claims and only had a lisence for a couple months.
I don’t have any family to add for an additional driver, do you think I could put down my boyfriends dad? He would be the one to help deliver the car when buying and when I leave it at boyfriends would drive it by moving it???
Sure! As long as when filling the forms you put him as ‘friend’ or family friend. Would be worth trying a quote with him in and one without to compare the price!
Idk, had my first car aygo never drived, idk what i pressed but got my price 550 first year and 380 seccond)) the Phandemic was nice time when no cars on road, to lower insurance
Hey plss can you help me with the car insurance i just passed week ago and i checked my insurance in my 2006 polo 1.2 E 5dr and they said my insurance is 27k yes 27k i dont know what to do I bought the car only for 600£ 😂 and im 20 years old 😢😢😢😢😢 pls let me know whyyyy 🥺🥺🥺
Hi, what can I do to do a insurance with out the black box 😅 I'm 18 and my licences is for 7 months but still all the insurance is with black box. Some insurance is with out but is over 400£ per month
Be careful when following these steps. Additional information is needed! 1- always get comprehensive. 2- voluntary always go for zero ( you also have a compulsory excess to pay and as a new driver you can't afford a lot more. 3- when adding an additional driver... If they crash in their own car your premium will increase as well. So be careful who you add. 4- millage don't lie... If you go over this millage and have a crash you are no longer covered. 5- go for monthly payments rather than paying one annual fee. If you have a 0% credit card pay the annual fee then pay it off monthly with 0 interest.
Good luck to you all British Citizens with parents and relatives to add on your cover, I'm an international Student with a new UK licence even if I've had cars and driven for a while, but well it's all for naught, I'm being quoted 2500 if it's really cheap and that's just one radom company that's always cheap, the rest are 3grand and more, this is for most of the cheap 1st cars suggested by everyone, but so I have to settle for some random cheap car to reduce my insurance for the future cars I really want to drive
Bro first car I pay 4.3 I tried so many things only thing that helps me is changing address at my partners it goes down to 2.5 on my addrsss it’s around 4.3 wtaf
Great video ! , I’m getting my first car soon I’m 17 and passed my test last week with your tips I managed to get my Insurance down to £1750 with a black box , is that good or is that abit expensive?
I have another question... If I said 8000 miles or whatever and end up driving more for whatever reason, say I make a trip around the country, then what? What happens then?
@@leandrofigueiredo8897 oh yeah I was told that by a mate who has one. Most of my driving is at night too coz of work so imagine black box isn't that ideal for me aha
Yes. As long as they're going to drive the car at some point during your policy. Some online comparison websites allow you to set how often they'll use the car from 'Often' to 'Rarely'. If it's 1-3 times a year I'd put it as Rarely.
When I did my one I bought my car off my sister so bear in mind it already has 3 years no claims on the vehicle but… When we searched with me as the primary driver. The insurance was £760 with bb £890 without When we switched it to my dad as primary driver and me as named, it went to £560 with bb £690 without. This is first year of me driving btw
Is a 1 series 118i 2012 too expensive to insure for a 17 year old? I dont mind maintenance as im a petrolhead and come from a mechanic family i can do that myself but is under 2k possible for that car with or without black box??
Excess it the biggest joke I heard on UK insurances..it should not exist..also, a friend of mine lowered his insurance by 40% just by changing his adress from london to a small city..starting your insurance next week ora few days later will have the biggest impact in your insurance..this is what I personally realised while playing with those settings
Most likely. A polo is also typically seen as more ‘boy racer’ so will bump up rates. Also if you don’t have the insurance in your name, and hence no, no claims. That maybe cause issues
Not a great idea... illegal if you're the main driver (in that you drive the care more than your parents), and secondly you don't build your own no-claims discount. So you'll be permanently stuck with high insurance (it works out more expensive over time)
Hi thanks for your video. I recently moved from Korea to UK. I have korean driving license and wanna get insurance on international license. I am planning to buy automatic vauxhall 2009. Please can you suggest how can i get a cheapest car insurance? I am 25
You may struggle with an international license. I can only suggest hunting around on some comparison sites, Confused or Money Super Market. They do have options to put in a foreign license. If they're coming up expensive, I'd look towards taking a UK driving test. Especially if you're going to be staying for a few years. If you're not comfortable, there is a Automatic Driving Test as well, as another option.
Hey bro new driver 22 year old new license trying to buy second hand car that is MERCEDES-BENZ A-CLASS *PANORAMIC ROOF* 1.6 A 180 WHITEART PREMIUM PLUS so can u tell me about my insurance
Any advice on getting it lower. I got same issue. Sadly I'm first person in family to have a driver license so can't add parents to it. Plus im 19. So £2400 insurance for me on small insurance group 4 cars.
@@muadzmandarwis6483 if you already limited your annual mileages, added a blackbox and the start date is atleast 2/3 ahead and still the price is that high there's isn't aren't more advices I can give you unless you lie a bit.. quotes totally depend on your location unfortunately, my insurence is 2600 without a black ox and I'm 23.. if your 19 I would suggest you to get a black box as its the only way to reduce the price significantly but be aware of the company, hasting directs are usually gives the cheapest quotes with black box but they have silly restrictions
Callum honestly It’s easier for girls, they can get a shitty c1 or a 500 and no one judges them and the insurance is dead cheap, not fair for lads that just want a fiat punto😪
It's because she is a woman, these stupid insurance companies say that all men are bad drivers and women are good drivers but gender has absolutely nothing to do with driving. That's why they give all women cheap insurance
there is a way u can get ur car insurance for 100 pounds so handbrake if u want to no how reply me because u dont realey now how car insurance realey works
