There were two sizes of cassettes. Small, for answering machines and some recorders and the larger which was for boom boxes and walkmans. The smaller tape actually fit the original sound wave. Cool huh? I was 12 when I saw Transforemers the movie in '86. "First we crack the shell, then we crack the nuts inside" ! Love it love the content! Thank you!
I'm surprised the KO was this quality. If anyone has the actual Fan Toys version, you know how quality Acoustic Wave is. It's pretty nice that a KO is so close in quality to it.
The lack of red eyes is something that I shall never forgive the Siege/Legacy Soundwave for. Is there actually an upgrade kit for that one that has the red eyes?
Wow just wow, this is the soundwave that I knew and below 200$ is actually pretty worth it it also comes with the cassettes so it’s definitely worth it😮💨
cassettes for music like these guys came in plastic containers to protect the cassettes from damage, I think it's very cool that they made basically miniature cases with the same design as the real life things
To me the OEM looks quite better but for the price, the FT not bad. As for "cartoon accuracy," the tools themselves had quite a few errors and many episodes were rushed, hence sacrificing the intricate detailing. Apart from the Decepticon logo looks bad, it's neat. Never ordered from AE. I always thought it was a scam site as they spammy af. Thanks for the review mate. The Puruna ain't bad either
Hey quick question. Did you every try and store the batteries after flipping that blue chunk out from the back? Pretty sure that decreases room in the battery pack.
Man this brings back memories. Soundwave has been my favorite Decepticon since the G1 days. This is honestly way better looking than the old masterpiece figure. I just hope it doesn't break easily.
i'm really not a fan of how modern MP figures heavily rely on faux-alt mode parts on their robot modes for the sake of G1 animation accuracy, such as this Acoustic Wave's faux crotch and side volume wheel. it just feels so ungenuine to the the art of transforming toy engineering in the first place... thankfully i have my good ol' MP Soundwave that i very much still prefer.
Got this entire set for $80 on aliexpress. Did the leg swap at the hips and its an impeccable MP. FanToys fanboys saying anything otherwise are straight shills and clowns mad they paid much more for the exact same thing
This guy and the KO of FansToys Astrotrain are just awesome figures. Hoping this KO company keeps them coming! I had the same misassembly issue with the piece connecting the legs. Super easy fix! Highly recommend picking this figure up if you're interested!
I just got him last week! Thanks for your review, and especially the tip about the alt mode button plate sticking out. What I don't understand is how to put the guns in Frenzy/Rumble's legs in cassette mode. They're obviously supposed to store in there but I can't get it to close because there's no room for the "wing"!
I got the first batch a year ago. one of the best figures I ever bought. My only advice is to put a G1 Cartoon Style Waterslide sticker, it looks so much better on him.
Don't know if it's the same on the ko, but with the ft one you can get the chrome barrel further into battery mode by pushing it further in when closing the handle half way before fully collapsing it, might be why you can't close the back properly
Damn that's crazy i'm old enough to Remember, cassette players? I still have my father's Take player with all of his cassettes. This right here is just pure nostalgia. I think I'm going to go out and buy this sound wave. Being one of my favorites
When it comes to G1, with the exception of kibble management (and elimination of parts-forming), I tend to prefer toy accuracy to cartoon accuracy. Remember, that was still in the era of hand-drawn animation, meaning simplified designs were essential for the cartoon. But for something that's going to be a display piece, extra visual details are a plus in my opinion.
I'm with you. Tori accuracy is more important than cartoon accuracy which they tend to have gone to for a while.... Thought it was cool at 1st, but I go back to the toy accuracy being better
I read about the ko and I didn't trust my luck enough to get it, bought the ft instead, the qc is pretty much flawless on my copy. Honestly not sure about the quality difference between ko vs official, your copy make it seem like the ko is a steal but comments on tfw and stuff suggests otherwise
1:10 I'm also technically "too young" to know what a cassette looked like, except for the fact that my parents still had a few old cassette tapes, so I knew exactly what they looked like.
On Ravage his hind feet are "backwards" or "upside-down" and it was the same with mine. It should be a small Philips head screw. Unscrew each and looking at the paws head on grab them with fingers and turn them 180 degrees or upside-down and screw back in.
Until seeing this video, I assumed I would never own a better quality version of Soundwave than the original G1 sitting on my bookshelf because they're so expensive. I might actually pick this one up.
Surprised you thought the back of MP-13 was better. The battery storage makes sense on the RP-01 (KO), and it’s less gap-y in the back. I think this was objectively incorrect.
I always find the term 'KO' uncomfortable when applied to a Fans Toys or X-Transbots, etc. because they're engineered from the ground up. They're not cheap copies of an official MP like 4th Party I prefer the term 'Unlicensed' for Fans Toys.
Awesome, now ripoff garbage tearing down the companies paying for the research, development, production, marketing, distribution, and all the other things keeping the hobby alive. Support the companies that can't create a damn thing while screwing over the ones doing the heavy lifting. Genius plan, Transformers 'fans.'
Looks good. Just not so much more good than the ancient takara to make me want to switch mine. Considering the age and simplicity and parts count of the old masterpiece, pound for pound he ranks as one of the best transformers ever made. He even holds up significantly better than the MP10 Prime that now looks like an ape in terms of proportions.
i bought the original takara soundwave but had to buy the KO cassettes as the prices for those were insane . but then as was the norm back then when hasbro did theirs they threw the lot in together . its no wonder why KO,s are so popular with takaras pricing policys
Unpopular opinion. The og Takara Mp is still better than this new FT one Also Frenzy is the red one for only one simple reason. What color is oftenly associated with rage, anger and, well, frenzy?
when i was a child around 1986... i had a KO Frenzy, Ravage and Lazerbeak... this KOs, can combine into a bigger Transformer... they can transform into a Cassettes , and can be placed inside a Real cassette player ... but their gimmick is that they can Combine... Ravage will split into 2 pcs, and transform into legs and feet... Frenzy will transforms into a waist and some part of the upper torso and Arms and hands... and LazerBeak will transform into main part of the upper torso, shoulders, and Head... sadly this Toy was stolen, by some neighbours from me...
This is really tempting, despite the wide opinion that the Tape Minions kinda suck (Laserbeak & FrenzyRumble especially). But there's also the Toy House Factory KO of ol' MP13 Soundwave that's got a couple of modifications to it.
I love RP-01 from the videos ive seen but the 140+ dollars for the casette pack alone is blatant extortion because they know people will want laserbeak, this is a great alternative
"I'm too young to know what a cassette player actually looks like." Thanks guy. Now let me just end my life because I just realized how old I actually am!
Great review! Not sure if you have noticed, but you need to flip ravage's back paws. They are upside down. Line them up with his front paws and you'll see what I mean. It's an easy fix. Any word on when they will be releasing the other two cassettes?
I’m just a kid, but I’m astonished by this figure, and from a collector’s standpoint, this is gonna look beautiful on my desk. I’m gonna buy this with some bday money, I just have one question, how long did this take to ship?
I have a couple of questions for this figure. Firstly, does this come with all the Cassetticons in this video, because a while back I saw a separate selling of just this Frenzy and one of the others, I can't recall. Secondly, does this by any chance transform off instructions into the Cybertron street lights from the first episode?
I am pretty sure build quality is better than MP-13, as being said, I think it is not too different than the MP and Takara is very good at mixing Toy easthetics with cartoon, to be honest those whites are way too white, and blue tone is better on MP-13.
I've always preferred a mixture more realistic and detailed bots that could do the things that were in the cartoons and comics rather than bot that borrow the overall flat panel aesthetics from the toons which were simplified more for budget reasons than style. Thus, Not huge fan of this Soundwave over all, even with the fantastic addons and swap pieces some parts would still need some more sculpting. It's great value I say but doesn't really make me love it. The cassettes on the other hand were brilliant and contradictory to what I said about cartoon aesthetics, the smaller the bots the better the cartoon versions were to what was offered in the toy. They look fantastic and hit that "could have been a toy in 80's-90's" aesthetically.
Nice. You can probably tighten those loose joint by putting a custom washer in the joint. It will make it as tight as you want without affecting the transformation
Question was wondering since I’m from Ireland we’re do I start ordering transformers officially and 3rd party website wise and will it cost more since it’s in the states and such
