What is the best trimmer line out right now? I have used a ton of different trimmer line types over the years, and right now, I'm going with ECHO's Black Diamond trimmer line.
I have used a bunch of different brands and styles over the years, but I just wanted to give you guys a quick update on the ECHO Black Diamond line. I think the .105 thickness is the best way to go. It's much thicker and lasts longer than the .95, which I feel is a little thin.

I was using the Oregon Gator magnum super-twist but have switched to the Rotary Black Vortex trimmer line. So far I really like it. it's quieter, seems to cut easier, and it lasts pretty well.

Brian's Lawn Maintenance i was very disappointed in the .095 black diamond line cut quality was great but I went through 2 and x3 the amount in one day I like stihls new twisted line seems to cut well and last longer but I still like my round line more than anything way stronger

I've been using BD .095 all season and I think it last much better than any line I've ever used! I haven't felt the need to move up to the .105 yet, one reason is that I'd rather have the line break if I get into rocks as apposed to it throwing said rocks! Lol anyway thanks for the video!

Perfectly honest assessment of the black Diamond Trimmer Line. I had the same experience with my testing. The.105 is the way to go and seems more equal to the Oregon gatorline .095 in terms of wear.

Black Diamond is what I use and all I use. I can get it for $25 a spool for .105. Love it and love the extra rpm out of my echo unit. Keep up the good work Brian.

I’ve been using the black diamond since it first came out. The .105 is what I use and same opinion as yours. Thing I noticed is it cuts on the first pass most the time. Even on heavy thick stuff, it will demolish more in on pass versus any other weedeater line. I’ve used all sorts of line out there from craftsman to Troy built to stihl and echo and black diamond is the best!

You're exactly right about the Echo Black Diamond thickness. The line appears to be thinner than other brands like Shakespeare Ugly Line and Oregon Gatorline.

I had the EXACT same thoughts on the .095 Black Diamond line. Way to thin, but cut great. I switched back to my Ugly Line (which I love), but if I run across the 1.05 Black Diamond line the I'll definitely give it another shot. I was really impressed with how smooth it cut, it just wasn't tough enough for edging, fences, etc. if the 1.05 holds up, I'll be making the switch. -Hard Knox Lawn Care

Just used echo black diamond .105 with a universal shivel 3 string head and damn it cut quick easy even and yes I can tell it's moving at a higher rpm. Good stuff

I was at my local dealer because I had to restock on some supplies and I bought a new sport of the .95 echo black diamond but I didn’t realize that they made like an even bigger school which was $62 but I went with that because in the long run it will save me money Godbless y’all prayin for everyone

Been using the black diamond line for most of this season its the best line ever. I also made the switch to .105 because the .95 seemed kinda weak. Overall it just runs a lot smoother. You could tell the difference in the line blindfolded because it has way less drag that normal line.

I have been going with the Echo .095 round line, but then I got the free sample of Echo Black Dimamond and it was amazing! I am using up my round line, then I will buy a spool of Black Diamond .105 or .125, if they make it.

Our city crews use both .95 diamond line and the Oregon .105 line, the guys I work with choose whichever they like, both have pros and cons, we use Echo and Shindy trimmers and what I find is the diamond line is better and cutting down burdock and scotch thistles than the Oregon line , some times my city gets our crews to get rid of noxious weeds

I have many mixed opinions on it, it cuts faster and cleaner to me but when i tested it against some of the other brands there really isn't any difference(to me). I am sorry but everything I have tried echo branded isn't really up to par compared to stihl, but I would really love to test out a pb770t. great vid! keep up the good work.

Gator line is the line for pro level work .095 for general work,.130 for work near walls ,rocks and concrete and heavier weeds/light brush,you should have a minimum 30cc trimmer dedicated for this work because of the drag the heavier line puts on the motor

The Black Diamond I found to definitely keep the rpms high but it tends to run out way faster than the Gator line that I always use. Black Diamond for when there is little chance of hitting rocks or debris and gator line for everything else.

I love the black diamond line, yes the .95 is too thin for edging but that's what I have an edger for, I'll have to pick up some 1.05 if I see it sometime

I'm sorry but that .105 Black Diamond line breaks on me every other 10 mins or so. Not sure why it works so well for most that recommend it but it has actually not perform as near as well as cheap generic line I normally use. It cuts better no doubt but it still breaks just as often if not more.

I use .095 black diamond, best thing I've used. Im in maryland and cut mostly tall fescue. I came from square .105 and stihl .095

By the way I like rotary vortex trimmer .95 much better than black diamond 105. Last a lot longer. I think you should try it

I had best results with maxpower twisted line commercial grade. I've tried black diamond and in my opinion it didn't last long. I've used other brands. And bought max power twisted line because that was all that was available at local hardware store that was near. It was that or drive an hour to home Depot. So I tried it. Wasn't expecting it to last so long. I cut 8 yards a day and I do not have to re spool for that day. I recently decided to try out black diamond again since echo said they re designed it. If it doesn't last like max power twisted. I'm going back to max power twisted. Max power also is lighter like the black diamond. And also cuts straight.

Yeah picked up the echo black diamond .95 at my local Home Depot for my echo 2026T trimmer a few weeks back and really liked it. Went with the .95 cause that's what i normally run but it doesn't seem to last as long as the normal .95 whatever brand line that I use at the time. It cuts the grass great and I think it will be my primary line of choice now but I'm going to go with the next size up. Nice vid and thanks for pointing that out about the line. Was thinkin the black diamond line was a little thinner than normal .95 line

I've never tried either of these. I've always ran the redmax .095 line. It seems to last long enough for me. Maybe I'll get a short spool of these and see how they work

Hands on experience the last few days, and I got to say honestly this echo black diamond is a waste of money, I went though a whole spool on my weed eater in no time kept just breaking, it might be ok to use if your just going to cut butter are something like that, but it sure will not hold up here on the banks i have to weed eat off. So put my cheap line back on and finished all the banks without having to change the spool

Tanaka Green Monster .105 trim line hands down the best longest lasting trimmer line I’ve ever used easy to work and doesn’t twist like some of the others … read the reviews.. although not easy to come by now..?

We use metric measurements in Oceania. Ok, most economical lines for us are mono filament fishing lines. They are available in abundance because of fishing vessels offloading their old stocks regularly with some signs of wear and tear. However, that aside, the lines are extremely durable and hard wearing. I use them regularly. They come in all sizes like 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.4mm, 2.7mm, 3mm and even 4mm.

Ran it for 5 minutes... took it all back to the dealer. Shreds faster than anything I have ever run. Zero reason to run a separate machine just so you can bump up against concrete or rocks etc.

Hey guys! I just got a HUGE amount of this BBC (Big Black Cord)! 5Lb spool should be enough to fill up the tiny holes on my trimmer head. I hope this stuff really pounds hard and that shaft stays straight and hard for a long time! Let me know if you like this BBC!

Ive used the black diamond it cuts really well i used the .105 but i went back to the regular echo line 0.95 cause my dealer doesn't even carry it and home depot only has it in 1lb.

Stihl Green .095 is what I use. Dealer told me it's the same as the orange but I feel it not the same. It seems softer and perhaps lighter. I'm not going through so much string since using it..

Hey Brian keep up the good work you have been teaching me a lot of stuff because I am new to the lawn care and I'm only 12! My favorite trimmer line is the vortex professional trimmer line, it's very tough and I think you should do a review ok it. I've read that some trimmer lines wobble up akd down when it gets going to pretty fast and this stays flat. So thank Brian I appreciate the hard work. Thanks

I've been using Stihl X -line and it is some very tough stuff. I prefer it over Black Diamond and Oregon. Stihl CF3 Pro is supposedly the ultimate trimmer line on the market. But unfortunately it has yet to become available in a 3 lb or 5 lb spool.

Been using the black diamond and round Oregon. BD blows the Oregon out of the water. Oregon is very similar to the regular echo line. Also tried ugly line and I hate it. I will be using only BD in the future.

Husqvarna's titanium line is very tough. Doesn't do anything special other than last longer. I can tell that It's made out of a hard grade of plastic bc It's kinda hard to cut.

I have found their .105 trimmer line to work very well for me. I had a full spool if the Shakespeare .105 trimmer line that I wanted to try but only used it for like 2 weeks and couldn’t stand it because it would split at the ends and wouldn’t last long. I went back to husqvarnas titanium trimmer line

I had a lot of the same thoughts on the Black Diamond which I also got from one of your videos through the ling (thanks! ) and as you said, I think for just mowing it does well, even in pretty thick grass, but against anything hard (rocks, stumps, concrete, ect) it just breaks off to easily (0.95 line) I like the Black Diamond for what it is but when I run out i wont be getting any more because I dont feel the need to order it (no dealers close by) when I can get Stihl brand, Oregon, and Husquvarna trimmer lines (i might do a comparison video on all of those one day) I personally like the round orange line that came spooled on my FS111 when i got it. that stuff is TOUGH. currently I have Black Diamond on my trimmer and a new roll of Gatorline for when i run out. I've been meaning to make a video about getting that free spool but never have yet. other things on my mind lol Thanks again Brian for the link in your video for us to get that free spool!

Savage .105 from Lowes is best line hands down. Thick line just knocks it down rather than slicing it good, but thick line is good for graveyards and chain fences but doest slice as good. But skip all that and get Savage .105 from Lowes, slices good, and last longer. Havent tried the .95 ever cause im stuck on the .105. REMEMBER ITS CALLED Savage

I'm down to either the Echo Black diamond OR Vortex... Look similar, roughly same price and both have 4.5-5.0 stars... Any strong reasons of one over the other.

Echo has supported the lawn care community, vortex hasn't. I like loyalty and so I'm a big ECHO fan. PS, I was before they pumped a lot love into the community. Either brand is probably fine though.

I seem to try them all, but haven't found any Black Diamond yet. I'm assuming it is very similar to the other "twist" lines on the market. All of the twist lines I have used seem to be smaller than regular round line. I use to run the Oregon Magnum clear because I hate seeing pieces of colored string in the lawn. I have even purchased some Razorback line at Napa and like it. I haven't tried the .105 yet because on the round line it seemed to tear my head's up faster. .080 does a good job trimming like you say, but when it comes to edging sidewalks or try to "sweep" debris out of the way, the .095 does better. Some spots the .080 will leave a narrow know like cut, but other places it tears a swath because it gets to flopping around when edging sidewalks. I have some of the new Stihl CP3 line in .095 (only size available at the time) and it is thicker and pretty aggressive.

I have been using both the BD and the gator Oregon. Funny you picked those two. I personally like the Oregon better though I agree the BD is better at trimming grass. I think the Oregon is better at edging. Disappointed that there isn't a .8 for the gator but I think I understand why. I do a ton of edging so I vote gator.

Maybe I'll try the .105 black diamond line cause I'm using .95 and I just don't see what the big deal is. Yeah it definitely cuts the grass good but going around objects or edging it just doesn't last. I guess you could say I'm still trying to find my go to trimmer line lol

I have tried it from the free promotion. Pros: I liked it, it cuts well. Light line. Cons: It's not as durable as other brands, but still a great line. The price is a little high. No dealers in my area carry it.

Does the echo black diamond wear down pretty quickly along cement walls? Does it wear down while edging sidewalks? i have quite a few yards that has cement or big rocks around gardens even what about chainlink fencing? i have a bunch of yards with that. what is your best thought of which trimmer line to go with. i am currently using the echo .105 crossfire i love that stuff i don't go through so much line it lasts quite a long time unless I'm up against rocks or stuff that tears the line quickly but just trimming around trees and edging its awesome stuff. i have a lawn care business in pratt, ks and been doing it for 13 years learned quite bit on differences of trimmer line which is better in the environments that I'm around.

I use the .105. It is a little stronger than their .95. Although they have a refresh coming for it to be reformulated/a tad bit thicker. I have only ran .105 since last summer when this debuted.

I know this is an older vid but I know that the Home Depot in Plymouth carries the black diamond in both 95 and 105.

For the 105 line, u can get air at Home Depot but it’s only the pound spools unfortunately

I bought a new spool of the .105 Black Diamond along with my new SRM-2620. Also bought the Red Armor oil and love all of it. I sent in for the free spool of .095 Black Diamond and received a spool but have not tried the thinner line yet. I did notice the .105 cuts like it's really sharp. I trim a lot of chainlink fence line and concrete edging and it breaks off if I'm not careful. Off the subject.... my 2620 seems to be really hard to start when stone cold... do you have any tips for this or have you experienced it Brian? Thanks...!

SuperDave21 Even on hot starts I have to choke it for one pull. Just a different design I guess, if that helps! Love the red armor oil by the way

When mine is stone cold I pump the primer bulb 8 to 10 times, choke it and work the throttle and pull it like 10 to 25 times then take the choke off and work the throttle while pulling several more times before it will bust off.... once it starts it stays running well, and will restart on the first or second pull with no choke. I'm about ready to take it back to the dealer to have him check it out. It's getting fuel, spark and has no fouling on the spark plug .... just hard as heck to start. Mine has about an hour total run time on it...

SuperDave21 yeah man that sounds like it's acting up. There's no reason it should be acting that way. Take it to your dealer and get it tinkered on.

Bryan, check out the Stihl CF3 Pro line. Got a video on my channel on it if you want to check it it out. I swear by it! It’s awesome and you can get it in the 5lb spools. It does costs more though.

Hey Brian , I know you've used the regular Gatorline but have you tried the Gatorline planum supertwist line from Oregon? I've been using it for a couple years now and noticed most of the same benefits with it that you and others have with the Echo Black Diamond, but I don't seem to have the small feeling line or breakage issues. In fact for most of my trimming I get away with .080 line just fine though I do definitely keep .090 and a small bit of .105 for heavier work. Would really love to see you compare these two lines.

I haven't, nope. I will see what my dealer is, maybe they have a sample. I like the gator because its squared off. I hate rounded line. The Oregon .95 is still great, but the BD just slices through like a hot knife in butter.

I agree the Echo Black Diamond 0.095 is too light as I am always checking to see if the spool is empty even months into using it. I have spools of the Echo 0.105 and the 0.095 Oregon line in my stock. Can conform that Rino-Tuff pro .155 is killer. Just try to figure is there something stronger for relay bad bush but can't figure out.

I bought black diamond .105 one time from last years do not like it at all. Wayy to thin and very fragile. You should try out LoNoiz .105 square twist line. May cost more but higher quality and thicker lines or you can get cyclone .105. Both of them made from same company.... cyclone is alittle cheaper but not twist line just stars shape. Black Vortex .105 is ok and still did a lot better than black diamonds echo .105. PROFESSIONAL XTREME TRIMMER .105 is most expensive to buy if you wanna 3 lbs of it and it not the best for do grasses. It the thickest as it feel like 110 to 130 even know it said .105 plus it bulky. Hard on engine, not recommended to buy it.

Nice! I just reupped on a 5Lb today of .105 Black Diamond. Brittle sure, cut quality though, second to none. Just my opinion!

Brian's Lawn Maintenance yeah it black diamond cut clean but lonoiz .105 cut just as clean as black diamond and far more durable, we do a lot of commercial property like apartments, banks, churches etc especially edging with trimmers

I use a echo 2620 and i dont use a guard i can get like a 3 foot span when doing our residential and i can weed eat out whole inside corners in like 3 seconds with the diamond line shit rocks makes weed eating super easy I go around a pole infront of the mower and don't have to flatline so far out only gota go around once cause the span is so frikken big!!!
