Hi Jenny! Thanks for your suggestions! When I went to Savannah a few years back, there was a ton of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil merch sold in the souvenir shops. I never realized it was based on a true story. Btw, both are amazing, but I enjoy your deep dives more than the short vids ❤️

You should look into the story of Bathsheba Spooner who was the first woman to be executed after the American Revolution for conspiring with two other people to throw her (probably) abusive husband down a well (She also happens to be my relative). Her story is absolutely nuts. There's a couple books about it one is by Andrew Noone. Love your channel!

My problem with In Cold Blood is the later discovery that Truman Capote made a lot of it up. But sold it as non- fiction.

Oh - he did a TON of research- and lived in the town for a long time. But if information was missing, he just made it up. Lee Harper (of To Kill a Mockingbird) was his bestie and I found out a lot about In Cold Blood when I was down a rabbit hole on her life. She actually conducted many of the interviews used in in Cold Blood because the people found her much more approachable. She went on to research a true crime boom of her own that she never published because she was never satisfied with the research she did.

Wow, I soo agree with you regarding Mcnamara’s book.. I was disappointed as well.. haven’t learned anything about the actual case… and was led to believe she was the one that nailed him..

Thanks fir the recommendations.. I'm relatively new to true crime and really enjoy books about serial killers. I did buy Tge Big book of Serial killers volume 1 and 2.. gives summaries of 300 Serial killers. I am reading the cases at random and noting ones I'd like to know more about.. I'm also just starting Whoever Fights Monsters by Robert Ressler... have you read it? And the 3rd book I got is Serial killers collection 2 (2nd book) by Ryan Becker.. it's about 4 Serial killers - and they go in depth about each one (almost like 4 books in one.. I just started the section about Mary Flora Bell... I'm a new subscriber. I also love thriller books but right now I'm most excited for true crime/ Serial killers.. I've been listening to some cases here on You Tube foe the past few months.. I love hearing about the mind of the killers. I will definitely read some of your recommendations... eventually.. right now I'm buried under several books..lol

Just read I'll Be Gone in the Dark and I couldn't agree more!!!!! I also just finished The Fact of a Body because it was on all of the top lists and felt that one fell short too.

May I also recommend "American Kingpin." It is the story of the hunt for the webmaster of the Silk Road. It is the fascinating tale of how people from separate agencies found tiny perhaps meaningless clues which ultimately brought them to their prime suspect.

kia ora - great channel - the only comment I have is about the Manson book. The Nikolas Schreck is more in depth I reckon, just my opinion. As for Bain? That bastard is summed up pretty well by The Mask of Sanity by James McNeish.

I recommend some North Korean defector memoirs. Impactful Examples - every falling star and in order to live. Some true crime recs is Love as always, Mum xxx written by rosemary wests daughter, Sleep, my child, (podcast) the debutante, bowravilleand the pig farm.

Not so much a book about a serial killer, but the book The Girl in the Leaves by Robert Scott is an amazing and disturbing true crime book. One of my favorite books of all time as a matter of fact. I 100% recommend!

In defense of I’ll Be Gone in the Dark - she hadn’t finished it. It was published where she left it. So - yeah. If you’ve ever read other works published posthumously they are all oddly incomplete. Because - well - they aren’t complete!! LOL! I enjoyed it - but you are correct that there is SO MUCH more to know. Most of it didn’t come out until after her death and the arrest of The Golden State Killer.

What Michelle DID do was coin The Golden State Killer name - and push to connect the three (in theory) separate killers into one. She also really helped to keep the crimes in the public eye.

Lima Jevremović who created the company Aura is doing the exact same thing as Elizabeth Holmes except her scam has already claimed one life. We'll be reading true crime books about her in the future.

HELTER SKELTER! That is my number 1 pick! I agree that the Manson story has been done to death - but this book is worth reading more than once.

Three books added to my reading list. Woo-hoo! I’m most excited by The Five. TBH - I don’t think life for sex workers and street dwellers is much better today than it was then. Laws, theoretically, are better - but they are still cruelly neglected in practice.
