I wouldn't recommend adding water to the tray. Unless you clean it out regularly (every few days), the feed will create a caked layer that develops mould at the bottom. Also if moisture gets into the feeder then it stops allows new feed to come through as it gets clogged up. Adding water to the tray will result in a wet mess with feed no longer being dispensed.

Thanks! Yes, avian flu is also an issue in Wales. Currently there are no housing restrictions here, so our ducks can go outside. We find it almost impossible to keep all wild birds away. Luckily ducks are much less susceptible to avian flu. We follow all the rules strictly, but I don't believe much can be done - other than to make sure your birds are well fed and looked after. Also, a good breeding program is crucial - selecting for the healthiest birds every time.

There is bound to be something similar. We didn't buy this one online but rather at our local farmers co-op. Doesnt need to be exactly the same. Most important is that it fits in a tray below
