Sigma has been on fire lately with their X Mount compatible lenses. The most recent one is the 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary. Unlike their other APS-C lens launches, this recent ultra-wide zoom was released about the same time as the other mounts (Sony E, Leica L) instead of 1 or 2 years later!! I've been excited to check out this lens since the announcement, as I'm a huge fan of ultra-wide zooms. Since 2016 I've been using the Fujifilm XF10-24mm f/4R OIS as my primary travel/vlogging lens, including my recent trip to Stockholm for the X-Summit/ Fujikina event. I have already begun my review, but in this video, I unbox the lens and compare it against the Tamron 11-20mm f/2.8 and the Fujifilm XF10-24mm f/4. At the end of the video, I do a vlogging test with all three lenses, in addition to the Viltrox 13mm f/1.4. Stay tuned for more tests. Thanks for watching, don't forget to like, comment, and tell your friends!

When I need WIDE but also need small and compact, the Loawa 9mm/2.8 is very hard to beat for fun photography. For daily WORK (Real Estate /Architecture mostly) I've had an XF10-24/4 on my X Bodies since 2014. A drop to the ice broke the mount free on the first one (I keep the 9mm in my bag as a backup and I finished the day with that) and B&H had the new mk II 'wr' version of the XF10-24/4 at my house the very next day. After about a month of using the new lens (and loving it) I figured I had nothing to lose so I superglued the lens mount back together on the original and for the last year I've had TWO XF10-24/4 lenses. I like that the Sigmas are tiny, but my bodies....(3) X-E4s, an X-T3 and an old X-T1 do not have IBIS. I also have really come to love the fstop marqued aperture rings on all of my lenses. It was my only annoyance with my original XF10-24/4 (and my original XF27/2.8) and honestly the only reason that I prefer the mk II versions...I have an umbrella...I don't NEED 'WR.' 😉 IF Sigma starts making some X lenses with OIS (or I end up with the X-T5 or an X-E5/XPRO-4 that has IBIS) I'll be a lot more interested in them....I shot a lot of Sigma glass when I was still a Nikonian....even won 3rd place in their 2007 "Summer Dreams" contest. They are a good company. Thanks for the reviews as always.

Nice video. I am undecided between tamron 11-20 and this sigma 10-18. Which one do you think is more detailed? (I have Fuji xt5 and xs10 and I don't make videos). Thank you!

any chance when you do your comparison video between the 3 lenses on stills you could include some with the viltrox 13 as well? I am super conflicted between the 11-20, 10-18, 13mm for my japan trip (I care more for IQ)

Which one should I get? The new Sigma 10-18mm at $599.00 or a used Fujifilm 10-24mm WR at a similar price?

Do you feel like it resolves all 40MP of the new sensor?

It is in a league of its own by being so small, wide and bright. In Australia it's literally double the price of the 18-50, though, so it's not an instant purchase.

This may be a better option than the. 8mm. I bought the Xs20 for vlogging and other lenses. I also have an H2,xt 20, and x100v. Plus, a Leica q2 reporter. OI be selling the xt 20 and xv100 as I only need the two fujis for my use. and my Leica

What about the Fuji 8-16? Sorry if I missed this somewhere. The prices for a used copy are 50% of what the original new price was!

Will Sigma make an aps-c 2.8 telephoto to complete the trio?

Been waiting for you to get your hands on this lens. Was about to get the Tamron then Sigma dropped this lens. It seems to be a great EDC/Travel lens with the 18-50 on X-S10. I can probably put everything in a Chrome Kadet sling with an iPad Mini.

It’s such a compact size for ultra-wide travel photographers, I’m super excited to take this lens on the road!

Hi Taco. I would love to switch to 10-18 and 18-50 from Sigma, but the fact that is not really WR... puts me back. What do you think?
@bigheadtaco
@bigheadtaco 8 месяцев назад
There is a gasket at the mount, so it protects the sensor itself, but you’re right, the rest of the lens is minimally sealed. To be honest, I’ve travelled the world with the XF10-24mm, and I’ve had it in -10deg to +40deg from Montreal to Bangkok, and I’ve had no issues with it. I would just be careful when going from super cold to super warm (or vice versa). Have a ziplock bag and protect the entire camera and lens combination.

Agreed.@@bigheadtaco . I've been shooting for dollars since 1985 in just about every environment on the planet except a tropical rainforest and I've never, once lost any bit of gear because it wasn't 'weather resistant.' I don't mind the "WR" designation because it doesn't get in my way, but I look at it mostly as a marketing gimmick. My mom taught me not to stand in the rain without an umbrella. That's worked so far. :)

The Sigma has sharper corners than the Tamron, so for most usecases it is the better lens, not least considering the size.

Fujifilm needs to come out with an XF film camera. I'd love to shoot the 35mm 1.4 on tmax 😊

Agreed! Everytime I see the top execs at Fujifilm, I show them my film cameras. At the last X Summit in Stockholm, I showed them the Fujifilm Super DL Mini :-)

Aren't most of their X-mount lenses casting a circle of light made specifically for the APS-C sensor? (Which is why Fuji X is NOT 'crop sensor' but rather an entirely different format.) I suppose they could make a 1/2 frame 35mm that takes X lenses. Not sure it would be all that easy to get 1/2 frame printed these days. :)

If you not planning to shoot on 40mpix or even 26mpix Sigma might be a good option. For latest Fuji sensor generation it would be advisable to spend money on something else
