Thanks Pal was just looking for a budget trout flyrod since most of my fishing is for Salmon but Its slow at the moment so I'm going after the trout. Didn't know where to start in my quest in looking for a dry fly rod and the funds are tight at the moment so your channel is a great help. Many Thanks to you and your Missus. Your help and expertise are very much appreciated. Liked and Subscribed. 👍

I got the Wychwood drift xl 9'6" that you recommended and I do love it. Unfortunately I snapped the tip section and am trying to get a replacement through my dealer. Wychwood wouldn't send it to me direct so I'm having to pay extra postage for that and it has been in order for 3 weeks now with no sign of its imminent delivery. The guarantee sounds good but I wish the reality lived up to the promise. I just thought you and your followers should know.

Nice review Andy! I'm a big fan of short rods - my longest is 8'6" 😂 But recently I've been in more situations where a longer rod would have given me an advantage, so this has really grabbed my interest. Really liking your channel and always enjoy you and IB's videos, keep up the good work! 🍻👍

Great review, Andy! Will have a look as I’m looking around following your presentation to our club last week. Was going to try my 3wt, but ad I’ve got a 5wt line already for that price it’s worth a go!

I bought the 8'6 4w version last year & it's been brilliant. Wasn't sure at first as the line was dreadful, but put a better line on it & it's been my 'go to' rod ever since. Was recommended by my local shop too.

good review and a good price. WHat reels are out there with a similar quality/price that would be interesting to know for anyone thinking about setting up from scratch . I find it amazing that wychwood give you a tubefor this and yet I paid more for other rods and its in one of those awful bags made from ground membrane type material ... not even a proper cotton bag like the good old days.

Have to agree, Wychwood rods are superb I have an 9' RS #5 and a 10' Flow #4 and I find both excellent, with the RS you expect it to be Good and still it surpasses expectations, but the Flow is fantastic too and incredible value for money especially at around a third of the price of the RS. I use both for dry but I've found the Flow simply stunning when fishing washing line with a floater or a sinking airflo poly leader to give a "midgyish"tip. Both rods are just so much fun to play fish on. I absolutely love both of them.

Don't think I've seen a bad rod from wychwood and they have had some crackers as well. A good brand that does well made well designed tackle. I use their connect lines and can't fault them, great vid Andy 👍

Fantastic review Andy. Really love this kind of content and wish there was more of it. I saw you were using an airflo power taper. Are you planning a reveiw on it? I find it has quite a bit of memory in the running line but man oh man does it fly when you need it to!

Great video Andy, these rods look like fantastic value for money. I'm looking to get into fly fishing, have got a very small river on my club ticket which reputedly holds trout and Grayling. There are all sorts of swims - gravel runs, deeper small pools, a small weir pool, sections about 10 feet wide and sections surrounded by trees. Was thinking I'd need a small rod (for the tree lined sections) with lightweight line and some nymphs. Not sure about what leader I'd need. It's still a bit of a mystery to be honest! Your nymphing indicator syrem does make perfect sense to me though coming from a coarse fishing background. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, another good review Andy. I generally use a Guideline Fario 9ft and self built cane rod 7 1/2 ft for the Dales rivers I fish ( dry ) but bought a Flow 11ft 4wt as a spare nymphing rod. I agree with the finish and feature comments you made but found it a bit heavy would that length be a bit too much if I wanted to give it a go tossing a dry, never tried it but wondered what your thoughts may be??
@x-itgamingandtech6513

Great review! 👍🏼 could you pair that rod, with new airflo tactical fly line? Btw, if you like fishing with vision nymphmaniac, I suggest you to try Guideline lpx nymph fly rod also. I think bot rods cost same, but lpx nymph could be good bang for the buck rival againt’s vision nymphmaniac.

Have you ever fished with the Shakespeare Agility 2, or Shakespeare Oracle 2 river, both rods retail in the same ballpark £65-75 and both come in 10' 4# (and 3#). Would be really interesting for you to do a like-for-like comparison rod test, as I'm currently looking for a budget river nymphing/dry fly rod. I have an 11' #7 Agility 2 (for bass, carp, sea trout etc), sure its not very 'refined', but for the price I can't fault it.

@gb4482
@gb4482 2 года назад
Yes, it would be good to know ... I sent a query into Wychwood asking for a summary of the differences between the two rods, but have yet to get a reply. I'd like to think that it would primarily be down to the composition of the blank and subsequently it's weight ... not information that is readily available from Wychwood's website. Having said that, the blank is what seems to impress Andy the most about this rod.
@gb4482
@gb4482 2 года назад
Got a reply from Wychwood re Drift vs Flow... Thanks for getting in touch and apologies for the delay in response. The Flow range is definitely exceptional value for money, but the drift will ultimately come with higher grade fixtures and fittings (i.e the carbon and guides), and be slightly lighter as a result. In terms of action, they’ll behave very similar and both are great for fishing dry flies. I think ultimately, the decision will come down to budget, and the amount you see yourself using it to warrant the extra money. I appreciate this is for the Drift XL, but here is a link to a video here that will help (only difference being the normal drift is a fixed length and non-extendable at the butt) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xGHHhohkpOg.html I hope it helps aid the decision to some degree.

All Wychwood need to do now is produce a smaller version of the the Flow reel to match. I have a Shakespeare Agility 10' #4 which is £12 dearer (RRP) and all I can say about it is it's functional. Like the Wychood it has a double locking reel seat. This is just trendy, there's no need for it. A single nut will do the job if the sat is machined properly. The grip is a bit too short and slim for my liking, and the cork is OK. I think more manufactures should offer foam handles, cork isn't that great. Like the Wychwood, and a lot of other rods, the whippings a covered in great blobs of epoxy which look a bit out of place on such slim blanks. As for the graphics I just don't really care. They're not a selling point.

Not only best value for money. Across their entire range mid to top tier Wychwood not only at least match. They exceed the fit for purpose and usability of rods at two and three times their price point. From butt to tip ring top anglers. Their input combined with apex design with the best for purpose materials. They are priced to balance costs and reasonable profit margins. Whatever your skill/experience level? Type/method of fishing. Stream dry/wets/nymphs. Larger rivers. Small still water. To the midlands giants Rutland/Grafham. Bank/boat/floattube. Predator perch/pike/zander. Even light surf fishing. Wychwood have multiple solutions. Their range of clothing and luggage is also the best balance of quality/value/cost on the UK market. When the market in the USA and Canada give these a try. Personally I think the company will increase sales at least four or five fold on current levels. Yes Airflo produce lines at the cutting edge of what is technically possible. However when on a rocky shore or surrounded by snags trees and bushes. It makes perfect sense to spend less than the fifty to one hundred pounds costs of Airflo/ Rio lines and use the Wychwood lines. As ever the choice is up to the individual angler. However Wychwood definitely brings their own perspective to that table of choice. And no I do not work for, or sell their products.

Actually no. I have this rod and no its not a good rod. For nymphing rod is too soft and heavy. The handle quality is cheap and rod doesnt feel good at all. Its not for dry/nymph or wet fly. Its just not good for nothing. For same money u can buy much better Hanak wave for nymph or traper speed for dry/wet fly ... waste of money. Doesnt recomand to anybody.
@IBandAndyFishing

Hanak wave is twice the price of this. You're talking rubbish. We used this rod for a full season, it's not a nymphing rod and isn't advertised as one. It's a perfectly good dry fly rod. You don't know what you're talking about

@@IBandAndyFishing Flow on market is around 90-100€ hanak is 120€ i dont see much of a difference in 20€. And quality diff is unreal. I used Flow around 10 times last season 10f is too much for dry and for nymph it as u said not usable. Then why ? Would u go for it. And as i sad traper makes much better rods for that money
