The best video of the Texas Clipper Reefing

As seen from the M/V Spree. www.spreeexpeditions.com. We published much later, but only because no one ever slowed down from diving operations enough to edit the final version. The Spree was much closer than any other vessel while it sank. We show a portion of the towing, anchor chain deployment, final cutting, personnel removal and the sinking from close aboard. Enjoy. Too bad this was before the prevalence of drones.

And unlike so many ships, Texas Clipper continues in her new life, not as a million razor blades but now even more intimately close to the ocean as a new habitat and recreational diving location. Kudos to whoever arranged and paid for this.

It's sad to see a ship intentionally sunk, however as being a scuba diver and having dove on many wrecks, the good it does for the marine habitat is immeasurable! Sea life will flourish on it and in just a few short years, an entire ecosystem will be established on her, and it brings money into the local economy as well. Sleep well, Texas Clipper!

that is the good thing about World Wars, plenty of intentional ship sinking and reefing. Unfortunately crew, hazmats and oils were not always taken off board in time ;))

@rich_edwards79 3 года назад
Poor old girl. As an ocean liner nerd, it still hurts to see the Excambion scuttled. A better fate than the breaker's yard I suppose, but as one of the last cargo liners, and such a pretty one at that (even prepped for death, shorn of masts and funnel and cut full of holes, she still had a classic dignity about her) she deserved a careful restoration as a museum or hotel ship. Lots of modern military stuff that could have been sent to the bottom in her place.

@@norml.hugh-mann You are quite right I totally miss judge the whole situation. you see..... I was under the impression that , the age of the vessel was the sole qualification for the structural integrity of the vessels hull. you know because we.would be wasting our time and money doing a structural integrity test on a recently completed overpass because it is " not old ". what a waste of our money with all of these X-ray machines, and taking core samples. All you need to do is tell the Inspector. " It was built yesterday." and then he will go " Well... Hell yeah...Here is your permit man. Hell, you could have told me that over the phone and I could have texted it to you. Would have save me from having to come into work this morning." You see, I just assumed that they said to themselves" Hey man.... Let's go sink this old boat. It is fixing to sink anyway because it is an old boat. misjudging it's true sea worthy ness because it was an old boat. Then found themselves almost going down with this old boat. luckily they were wrong and after cutting enough hole in the hull that it looked like Swiss cheese, it still refuse to go down. But I was wrong and I totally understand now, and I owe.it.all to you, that the what I didn't know is.... they were a bunch of Aggies.
