This looks sick… i will be homeschooling my children starting next year and am looking for a D&D imaginative virtual table top experience that we play 1 day a week thats apart of my “arts” curriculum. Teaching them teamwork and thinking outside of the box… mix in an insane ChatGPT dungeon master with this tool and we will be making memories that will last a lifetime.
As a map-maker 11/10 - I try for an old-school "dudes* round table + beer" TTRPG feel. Players love it, I love it. *gender neutral "dudes". Anyway... totally revolutionised my DMing alongside Foundry - HQ maps (even on the low Quality setting)... "You've got X turns of movement, go explore" and just see what the players are drawn to + so long as I've prepped nice handouts for "features", we're good, but with the strength of images I'm confident I could BS my way through a dungeon map on the fly 🤣 It's amazing for making a territory, taking notes and then filling in the blanks. EASY to overdo it at first - video handouts etc. etc. did start to slow sessions - but international party, internet speeds and just... we're a collaborative storytelling group, not WoW players - that's no fault of this stunning software + it's been a huge boon for easy DM-writing - as you've latched into in your video. Super-fun just to play with, really nice online community + engagement from the creators too. I can't wait to see what the actual finished product looks like, there's still stretch-goals on the way before "complete". Crazy, exactly what I wanted from a map maker + plenty, plenty more. You can customise/add pictures to paintings etc. there's "green screen"-style objects too - CRAZY. Desert, Snow, Lava terrain as well - all awesome - again, the customisable objects are insane. Best TTRPG purchase I've made since the start of Covid.
I run a campaign on Saturdays that I stream onto Twitch (you can find the VODs on a neat little playlist on my channel too) and I’ve been using Tabletop Sim to build the environments and maps by hand- mostly when the sessions are more reliant on a physical 3D space, and it’s been really fun. Very modular even if a bit too time consuming. I really hope something with that level of modularity and customization but with a degree of streamlining hits the market. Who knows, maybe DA is building itself up to be just that!
@@CommanderRod Foundry user, just sank into it ~Covid, like many. I did try tabletop Simulator, but... didn't get on with it. Project for next year is tv/table + irl group. Not sure I can sink into viewing a campaign 1 on the go in reality eats a lot of time + I'm retired - no clue where the time goes, well... up in smoke ;)
@@wulfgold That sounds like a dream come true!! Unfortunately, I'm still in Brazil and my group is in America, so I have to do things long distance haha
A couple of questions regarding the actual product. Can you export the things this makes as textured 3D models and then import them into tabletop simulator?
I've yet to see that as a function, but I do know there is a very large library of fan-made assets for Dungeon Alchemist. My guess is that they'll eventually either open that up for TTS or they'll try to compete with it directly by becoming MORE of a VTT
I would so much like to use it as an VTT, but with only having access to HeroForge as real characters is a big limitation. Fine for the PCs, as those are limited, but when you get to NPCs that is a bit of an issue. also, some tools would be good, like ruler, fog of war, etc. but it is such a shame to be have to compress these amazing environment down to flat view. And they said that they dont really want to become a VTT
one way "around" the fog of war that I found is that you use the black smoke/mist, and you can delete sections of the fog. Not perfect, but slightly hides the stuff atleast
It is wonderful for maps but it is so not a VTT as it has not features like other true VTTs. Hoping other established VTTs will work them to intigrate the 3d aspect.
I do feel that DA takes away from the "mental graphics" that players immerse themselves in. But if you can make the map really detailed and maybe just allow the battles to be mental then you can still have the players seeing things in their minds. I 2D the battle areas and don't use the animated attacks that Foundry can show. I 3D the walkthrus.
You were born and raised in Brazil? You have the most American American accent I have ever heard. Did you train your Brazilian accent out of yourself or something?
Aye aye! And I've been learning English as a second language ever since I was young-- that and movies/music/games have helped me train my accent however I choose! It also helps that I'm a voice actor today, so I have full control over it :)
