The hardest part about brazing is getting over overthinking it. Soon as you get past the fear of messing something up it’s smooth sailing at least that’s how it went for me 😂

Not a fan of that oxidizing flame, but I guess if your in a hurry. I've always found that it's much easier to repair leaks, do touch-ups and recap joints when your pipe and fittings aren't cooked to holy hell. As a shipyard pipefitter, appearance and cleanliness is important too.
@micahjones1049

i like to get the pipe and the fitting glowing red hot then add the filler rod. quick and easy it lets you get all your work done with plenty of time for screwing off.

Everyone's a critic Roger. As long as the joint doesn't leak that's really all that matters at the end of the day

Roger in Europe that’s called cupotechnic.Brazing is with brass rods and a powder flux.We used the silver solder rods for that but your right it’s a lifetime job.

Those braze joints look good. Everyone has their own preference on what to use. I liked a #2 tip for braze and air/ace tip for soldering. I didn't have a need for a rosebud tip. Thanks for sharing.

i use a mini oxygen acetylene rig to braze and med gas,and fitting should be glowing while you push your unbent brazing rod into cup for full pen and yes you purge it ,its more of a weld than soldier and i clean fittings too that packing oil will mess up a joint in heartbeat

I only use the rose bud for 2in and up pipe sizes. The turbo torch takes too long. For brazing smaller pipe 1/2 to 1in I'll use a welding tip, MAP gas, or a Tutbo torch.

Turbo torch is usually good up until about 2 inch pipe after that it gets very difficult and that’s where a rosebud would be easier

The temperature needed to melt the rod. From what I can tell, brazing last longer and is better against vibrations... You can braze into existing lines without a fitting

You can't cool a joint fast. You have to wait for it to cool down on it own. Think about it as putting water on ice.... the ice has fractures in them when you do that, so will your solder or brazing.

In my opinion that is way too much flame on the oxy rosebud. Just a waste of gas and harder to control cherry red heat.

Depends on the type of building and fire code/plumbing code in your area, brazed soft copper can be buried for water in my area but pex can't have any fittings in it. At a couple hundred bucks per 4" fitting tee drilling and brazing gets economical really quickly too.
