The BEST way to hike Scafell Pike, England’s HIGHEST mountain!

The highest mountain in England! We started hiking in Seathwaite and headed up Styhead Gill to Styhead Tarn. From there we took the corridor route to Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England at 978m or 3209ft.
We descended via Broad Crag and III Crag. From there we scooted around Great End and descended next to Ruddy Gill.
4th time for me, but it was Laura's first time so the most special of all. Each time I’ve been up I’ve descended a different way so I know the tallest mountain in England well.
It's my favourite route up, and l'd highly recommend it. There's a handful of mildly tricky parts, but take your time and get a hand hold.
10 miles, 1000 metres of ascent, and two very happy faces!
Hiking gear used:
Inov-8 Roclite 345 GTX V2
Osprey Talon Velocity 20
Fjallraven Barent Shorts
Mountain Equipment Tee
Darn Tough Socks

I think 99% of wild campers are very responsible for leave no trace. Unfortunately it's the 1% that spoils it for everyone else. Good video. 👍

What a great video. Brings back memories. Done that route many times. I camped next to Styhead tarn with my mate Steven and his Nephew in his little Vango Force 10, an unbelievable 47 years ago (can't believe we fitted in).We got caught in an absolute downpour, a stream burst its bank and decided to flow under our tent. We packed up in the dark and walked down to Wasdale Head and rang his Dad to pick us up at 2 in the morning. Happy adventures.

Nice one Andy and Mrs Andy! Yeah, that's a great route up. Done the Wasdale route, Great End route, but by far the best route for me is from Brotherilkeld farm at the bottom of the Hardknot pass, up to Lingmell bridge and on to the Great Moss. So remote and gives Sca Fell Pike another perspective on the approach. Take a left up Little Narrow Cove , which is an absolute leg burner. On to the col, then a short pull up on to the summit. We wild camped at the base of Little Narrow Cove and were on the top at 07-30 all alone. Great route, try it sometime. Cheers,.

Suggestion - Take the track to the north of the stream from Taylor Gill Force for a closer view of the falls. It involves some easy scrambling but is much more interesting.

My fav way up and then i usually come down the corridor route. Did this in full firefighting kit and carrying breathing apparatus. It was a tough day, especially with american fire kit on which is very hefty. Love a circular hike.

Great route. We were thinking about going from Wast Water, east to Lingmell, over to Scafell Pike, then Scafell, and back. This looks amazing too. Would you have a OSM route of this?

We did a similar route but in reverse. It’s nice to stay away from the tourist track as much as possible. Route here… strava.app.link/yJ3y2FYGnLb

I’d say so, there are only a handful of tricky bits. It can get really cloudy up there so make sure you’ve got a GPS device to help you find your way!

I pronounce it scar fell, locals are more scaw fell due to regional accent difference (I'm still pretty northern). I don't think anyone calls it scá fell (with a sharp a)
