When I was 11, I had a school assignment of writing a mystery story. In my story, I used insulin as the murder weapon (I think I had seen it on Midsummer Murders once). My teacher was horrified and sent a note home to my parents (it seems that my teacher had not thought 10 and 11 year olds would write about murder?). My parents were rather proud.

I did the same when I was young. I was obsessed with murder mysteries and watched them all the time from a really young age. I’d always asked my mum on the different ways you could kill someone. Luckily she knew I wasn’t a psychopath because I had a very weak stomach for gore.

I had to look it up: 'dal' is a soup made from dried, split pulses (lentil?), and 'Roald Dahl' is a British novelist.

@@Violetsunrise Many of her novels were reworkings of her own earlier plot devices and short stories. I had a quick search on google and came up with a news article saying (nearly verbatim) what I asserted in my OP. Even the factual reports of killers IRL copycatting her techniques in some fashion including a version where saline bags had insulin added by a hospital nurse in the U.K.. I vaguely recall a case where police found a killer to have done online research into crime novel poison techniques beforehand which is what I was getting at here. People pick up ideas from detective fiction whether they later credit it or not.

@@puirYorick I responded to your assertion that she read about the use of insulin in Agatha Christie. Had you said she got it from crime fiction in general or the use of injections in general I wouldn't have bothered. Insulin was allegedly used in the famous Von Bulow case, although he was later aquitted. Insulin is unlikely to kill an adult, and will be detected in an autopsy according to the article I read.

It also occurs in an episode of Modesty Blaise, when a organised gang of murderers attempt to murder Willie Garvin that way, but he sense that something's going on and manages to switch the insulin for water before they inject him =)

You can also inject someone in their veins with an empty syringe. If it's enough air you can cause an air embolism and thus making them have a heart attack

Make a mould for a crossbow bolt, fill it with water and put it in the freezer to make an ice crossbow bolt. Then you fire it at someone and it will melt afterwards, leaving a hole in them but with no evidence of what caused it.

I think in the book we don't know what the man did but it is in the TV series they give a reason. So I guess she saw the programme rather than read it.

Randomly an old lady I knew said ." You always say you would never kill someone up until the day your planning the murder, you should never say I would never do that and dismisses it just like that. Because there might come a day where you get so mad that you would do so." And the other old lady next to me said " Yes what my sister's husband did to her... It's true dear you need to hear this. I never thought I would want to murder someone either always said not Me when I read the ten commandments. But there there for us to consider. We are all perfectly capable of killing another and we need to accept this fact and face it. To set our minds in advance to never brake that Law or when that day comes you won't murder that sunvofbich. ". So yes I know of two sweet old ladies who planned a murder. But as far as I know nothing occurred.

I remember hearing a murder case that happened in korea about a fellow church member who killed another member with frozen bread dough rolled up in the shape of sharp knife, cooked it and served the bread to the church during mass. Can’t remember how he got caught but the case went on for a long time because they couldn’t really prove the murder weapon.

I like Sara Pascoe, as a person - I am not a big fan of her comedy. However, I have a huge amount of respect for anyone who wants to become a stand-up comedian. It is probably the hardest job in the world. You are on stage, on your own, with no song to sing, or another person to support you, and you know a good part of the audience are probably sitting there thinking purposefully, "Come on then, see if you can make me laugh". I can only imagine how crushing it is when they do a routine and it falls flat, and few laugh. So, whether I like a particular comedian's style of comedy or not, I salute them all for putting themselves up there.

It isn't, actually. It's unlike his children's novels but he wrote a lot of adult stories that are dark, macabre and extremely funny. It's really worth it checking his story collections, similar ones to this are Nunc Dimittis and A Way up to Heaven, they're great.

@@serenity4eva89 haha that's absolutely true, but there's always a lot of quirkiness too, making light of its darkness, whereas his stories go from black comedy to eerie to unnerving to downright grim. I read them pretty young and the one about bullied boy and the swan, which is really misanthropic and depressing, gave me nightmares

Gang activities is highly associated with men I know women have gangs too but COME ON they aren't a threat at least nobody view them like this nor thy reach the scale of crime male gangs reach you have Mexican gangs African American gangs and those KKK influenced gangs (white supremacist gangs) and they all attack each other and themselves for money drugs women business or pride which this isn't really common with women B) Not to mention men have lots of testosterone which makes some of them super aggressive and violent I find it quite funny how sone men belittle women call them weak and stupid but all of a sudden when it's about murder we are smarter then men in hiding it Interesting........

Just wear a simple disguise like a wig and dark glasses. Also, have something very noticeable and memorable like tattoos on your hands, neck or face but these aren't real and can be washed off. Do the deed in a public space with lots of witnesses then leave immediately. It'll look like a random attack/mugging gone wrong and all witnesses will remember your (fake) tattoos.

One issue with this plan. When insulin is created in the body, a larger form is initially made which is then cleaved. This leaves behind C peptide and insulin. Because this naturally leaves a 1:1 ratio of c peptide to insulin this can be tested for in an autopsy to see if synthetic insulin was added

I recall an Alfred Hitchcock episode of the same nature but when the same women tied to murder her next husband the same way, she took the leg of lamb out of the freezer too soon. When she wacked her husband it had defrosted too much and he wasn't killed, this was she caught

Insulin could kill anyone. With any kind of with diabetes mellitus (that is, the kind of diabetes that affects blood sugar. Type 1, type 2, etc.) Diabetics only need it at certain times in certain amounts. It would actually be asked to get away with killing them by insulin injection because they already have to stick themselves and an autopsy wouldn’t distinguish between the usual ones and whichever one a killer caused. Other than age.

There was a nurse who murdered few children in her care this way. She got cought after like 4th or 5th one. The only reason why anyone got suspicious was because one of the victims sister who was health also died the same way as the sister.

Yeah, they test for it on autopsies. All body fluids are tested. Increased levels of insulin are checked because a person may have been an undetected diabetic or been or treatments that effected it etc. Just as they check cholesterol and other stuff. Better option is to poison the aqueous humor or basically eyeball jelly.

Interesting plot. This takes a certain kind of victim, but I would personally threaten to post deep fake porn of them online (anonymously of course) with increasing demands of self-harm until either they fully die of blood loss or the videos get released and they have a very good chance of committing suicide anyway. The main benefit of this method is that it would make for some well-satisfying revenge. Luckily, I have never hated another person enough to do this xD
