They are good switches, I have used Nobsound, sold on Amazon, with no issues. To simply split an XLR signal, Emotiva makes some very nice one in/two out units, very good quality.

The way I did surround is that I have a universal disc player “Oppo 205” which is surround. I run the main two channel XLR directly to my power amp, then run the individual RCA surround connections to my sub and use Kali powered speakers for the surround channels. Works great, I don’t give up my great two channel hi fi but still have surround.

Just put your receiver into Pure Direct. The point of that mode was to bypass any processing. It does what you're trying to do.
@SpecOfTech
@SpecOfTech Год назад
You would think it would right?! But unfortunately that is not the case, even in Pure Direct mode I can hear a clear difference between what I have now set up, and the Arcam alone. It's all in the interest of having a more resolving system, which will help in reviewing things like amps and speakers.

Barrett make sure when switching back and forth you have them level matched (db wise) as sometimes the difference in output can make things seem better also, just keep that in mind! I compared the dac in my avm70 vs the bluesound node 2 dac and my Bryston bda2 dac, switching profiles on my avm70 I didn’t notice a difference between the node and the Bryston, the avm70 was nice but I liked having the option of the music being more pure and not running through an eq, and since I already bought the Bryston bda2 I’ve left it in the chain for now, so I have pure analog with the Bryston or if I want my subs on I switch to the avm70 internal dac. That switcher is pretty slick though and I’m sure for you will be a game changer for testing gear out
@SpecOfTech
@SpecOfTech Год назад
Thanks for the reminder. What I was hearing wasn't a difference in SPL though, it was a difference in dynamics and MUCH fuller bass. I will do more comparing yet, but it was the sound improvement was instantly noticeable. I'll find out if the same applies to the AVM90 vs the Eversolo pairing. Yeah dude, that switch is going to be incredibly helpful when doing comparisons.

I use a similar setup using a switch with a dac3 l for music and avm70 and use it to switch the subs between 2 channel and home theater and keep my fronts on the Benchmark amp. Anyway it works great. Different use case but the switch works great.

........"Home Theater Bypass" is the same as the rarely seen "Main (amplifier) In" on an integrated. It's a preamp bypass, effectively converting an integrated amplifier into a power amplifier. Connect the AVR L&R main line level outs to a power amp. There's no need for 2 preamps in the chain. Remember too, HT uses sub-woofers for synthetic sound effects. Stereos use large paper woofers for bass guitars. Reggae, Funk & Brass 🔈🔉🔊

So by Using the switch you don't use a line stage preamplifier listening to stereo? So basically you don't use a preamplifier. Looking forward to the AB testing.

@JamesWilliams-gf8gm Год назад
I tried an analog switch and it dulled my 2channel a bit. This one might be better though. The problem you are going to have it you will want subs in your two channel system and really still need a highpass to do it right. Something like the JL CR-1 will try both systems together and allow theater pass through and management but it is expensive.
@SpecOfTech
@SpecOfTech Год назад
That's a good point. My plan is to connect my Eversolo to the Arcam as well, that way when I want bass, I will just listen that way. Hopefully, soon, I will have speakers that won't really require subwoofers for 2 channel.
@JamesWilliams-gf8gm
@JamesWilliams-gf8gm Год назад
@@SpecOfTech all speakers needs subs lol. Unless they are self powered and corrected. I run subs with my JBL 4367s… But really the JL CR-1 is pretty nice. You can manage two channel low and highpass then pass the LEF through it and let your processor handle the subs for movies. Once you add a bunch of two channel processors (MiniDSP, etc). You lose the magic of highend two channel stuff. This will make the subs both part of the two channel and home theater on different processors for each. Anyway that is how I ended up.

@navinadv
@navinadv Год назад
I think this is kinda complicated. Get a good integrated amp with power amp in option. Connect you audio sources directly to this integrated. Connect all your video devices to your AVR Take the front left and right out from the AVR and connect them to the power amp input on the integrated The integrated powers the front left and right speakers. The AVR powers center and surround. When playing 2 channel audio you don’t need the AVR When playing multi channel audio you switch the integrated to power amp input and it acts like a power amp. No need for extra switchers which might add noise.
@SpecOfTech
@SpecOfTech Год назад
Haha, it's not any more complicated than what you just explained my friend. It is really easy as well.
@navinadv
@navinadv Год назад
@@SpecOfTech I just thought that using a switcher is kinda unnecessary if you choose your integrated amp and AVR carefully. I have done this (using an integrated with an AVR) in the past (2000) using a 15 year old old Harman PM 665 (made in 1985) and a Marantz SR7000. Later I used an Yamaha S2000 with an Onkyo NR3013. Currently I use a AVM Evolution 5.2 with a Denon 6700.
@SpecOfTech
@SpecOfTech Год назад
@@navinadv Using an integrated amp with HT bypass is an option as well, but you need one that has the bypass feature. That limits your options. I just wanted something that was 100% universal. You're right though, either way works, it just depends on your needs.
@navinadv
@navinadv Год назад
@@SpecOfTech I don’t know what “HT bypass” means. I have seen several integrated amplifiers (from the 1980s till today) that have a “power amp in” connection and many that have “pre-amp out” AND “power amp in” connections. Is this what you refer to as “HT Bypass”? My current integrated (AVM Evolution 5.2) has a rather neat trick in which it permits you to set up any of its inputs as a fixed level or variable level. In the variable level the preamplifier functions are active, in fixed level only the power amp section is available. For example I can have 3 variable level inputs (for a CD player, streamer etc) and 2 fixed level inputs (AVR, TV audio, etc). I can even adjust the sensitivity for the fixed level inputs. I wish more amplifiers were designed like this.
@SpecOfTech
@SpecOfTech Год назад
@@navinadv Everyone has a different name for the feature, but yes, that is exactly what I am referring to. Not all units have the ability to bypass their own internal processing etc for when you want to use it for home theater.

Thanks for the video. I've got two questions if I may.. what kind of speaker cables and RCA do you run and please be honest here... on average per week how many hours of two channel stereo music do you listen to. Not judging just wondering 🤔
@SpecOfTech
@SpecOfTech Год назад
What reason would I have to be dishonest about cables, odd thing to say. For my front stage I use SKW premium speaker cables. I only run 1 RCA cable in the whole system, but more specifically it's a COAX cable , and it is the SKW premium COAX cable. I spend quite a few hours in front of my system. Not only is it my hobby that I enjoy, I also need to listen to the gear that I am reviewing.

@totalplonker824 Год назад
@@SpecOfTech I think you need to read the comment again my friend. I'm not asking you to be honest about what kind of speaker & rca's cables you'rerunning. What I'm asking... on average how many hours a week do you listen to 2-ch stereo music. What I'm trying to establish... are you one of these guys who constantly reviews or do like you listen to a lot of music? As far as the cables are concerned. That's just me trying trying to imagine what kind of noise floor your putting up with.

@SpecOfTech Год назад
@@totalplonker824 It's all good in the hood bud, but sometimes punctuation is everything 😉. To answer your question, I am away from home working a lot. @@SpecOfTech I have my video sources going to my Denon 8000 series AVR (100W x 7 channels driven but I am using only 5 power channels). The Front left and right outputs go to my AVM integrated amp. I have my audio sources (CD, DAC, etc) going to my AVM integrated The AVM (you can also use the Yamaha S2000 or almost any amp - even my old 1985 era Harman PM665 also could do this) amplifier has power amp in and pre amp out. Pre out on the AVM goes to 400W 4 ohms mono-blocks which power the bass section of my tower speakers. The Integrated 150W powers the midrange and tweeter. Front speakers hence have 400W +150W Rear and Center get 100W each. The party trick in the AVM is that it has 5 inputs and each input can be configured to be variable or fixed. So for audio sources you set it to variable so the volume control on the AVM is active. For sources that have their own volume control (AVR for example) you set it to fixed and adjust the sensitivity accordingly.
